Steven Giss, MD FACS - The letter I received. This is after the phone call where I was told "nobodies perfect!" lol.

I have never had such an abysmal experience with any facility. I came in to St Anthony's…read moreexperiencing the worst pain of my life, and I was treated terribly. This is a little long, but please read! I came in on a weekend, they seemed short staffed and disorganized. I waited something like 36 hours for my first tests to begin, and to receive the results I met with Steven Giss, MD. This man seemed to be filled with vitriol towards me before having ever met me. He aggressively let me know that it was the weekend and he wasn't even supposed to have to come in today... That was very shocking to my family and I. He proceeded to very rudely tell me that all that was wrong with me was fatty liver disease, and to just go home and lose weight. (When I read the report myself later, it specifically stated that my liver showed NO SIGN OF FATTY LIVER DISEASE). My family and I were terrified at the prospect of me not receiving care, as at this point I had turned bright yellow with jaundice and my urine was dark brown like iced tea. My organs were not working properly. We were all scared for my life, and I was still crying and retching in pain at this point. They only started properly administering pain meds after the surgery proved I was not lying or exaggerating. He was eventually swayed by my grandmother to actually operate on me, and the operation proved what was actually wrong with me. My gallbladder had sludge, calcifications, and dozens of stones, multiple of which were blocking essential ducts to my liver and pancreas- somehow the MRI had missed this. The surgery ended up taking nearly double the time it was intended to. Steven Giss met me at my post op bedside and lightheartedly described it to me as "humbling"- no apology or admission of fault. I reported this incident to St Anthony's higher ups and was told "nobodies perfect". I am serious, that's what they said. Please don't take yourself or your family to this hospital. It left me traumatized over the 6 days I spent there. I am left with a lot of scar tissue and nerve problems in my abdomen, which I can't help but wonder if would have been avoided had I been treated promptly. Steven Giss- treat young women and your patients with more respect before karma walks you like a dog.
