* Superb Pâtisserie in the heart of Burgundy *…read more
This little tearoom/pâtisserie/chocolatier sounds like it might try to do too much, but it all works extremely well.
Mr. Bourau is quite gifted. He has trained in several countries around Europe, yet has returned to his home area in the heart of Burgundy.
For a very reasonable 5.50€ you get your choice of coffee, tea (from a nice selection of loose leaves), hot chocolate (the real stuff), or fruit juice along with the pâtisserie of your choice (and oh what a selection!). And as if that isn't enough to satisfy you, add on some beautifully crafted chocolates for later.
The "ecureuil" was phenomenal. It was a light yet richly flavourful milk chocolate mousse, croustillant aux noisettes, and dacquoise noisette. The textures all combined beautifully between the crunchiness and the smooth creaminess of the mousse.
If I ever get to go back, I will certainly try the "ardéchois" which is chestnut mousse, with dacquoise noisette and chocolate. It was a very difficult choice!
While Mr. Bourau is slaving away in the back, a woman (perhaps his wife?) provides excellent service up front. She was extremely friendly, and was happy to explain all of the different creations. She clearly knew all of the customers that were coming in and grabbing treats to take home. Yet she made us, as visitors, feel perfectly welcome as well.
What a lovely little place to take an afternoon break before going off and wandering more of the vineyards in the heart of Burgundy.
Ahhhh.....
