It's hard to do, but I have to say, lap of love made this as easy as they could. Our baby spent so much of her last 6 months in emergency rooms, vet officers, and hospitals. We made an appointment if the afternoon thinking that would be her final moments, but when her health tanked so quickly, lap of love was able to move her appointment to the earliest possible time. Dr Stephanie was a pro. She was as stoic but caring and understanding. She never rushed us and gave us as much time as we needed. She gave us a detailed description of what to expect. And in the end, she allowed our baby to pass peacefully and comfortably and never made us feel rushed and never pushed us to say our final goodbyes. Letting your baby go is an impossible decision, but Lap of Love makes it as easy and peaceful as possible. From my initial phone call with Jessica right through to Dr. Loren's visit, this was an invaluable experience. They came the same day, and Dr. Loren was absolutely amazing. So sweet, understanding, calming, and such a wonderful human. I was just a blubbering mess from the moment she walked in the door. She asked questions about Sid's life and remembered the names of our 2 other pets that were outside with us and spoke to them as well. She used verbiage that I had never heard before, and I worked as a vet tech for a year and did plenty of euthanasia appointments. She said she was setting him free and when he was gone, she said "he's free now." She explained everything and always asked permission to touch him. She took paw prints for us and, at my request, did a nose print from a kit I had bought. She placed his body in a beautiful basket to carry him out, and when I tell you that she was graceful and conscientious about wrapping him up and placing him into that basket, you better believe it. She careful propped his head up and left it out so we could continue to say our goodbyes. She offered to carry him out or let one of us essentially be a pallbearer. My husband carried him out to her car and she gave us each hugs (after asking if it was ok to do so). I would give a zero if i could. I knew my dog would be passing soon so I called and pre-arranged their services and even gave them my credit card number. I told them at the time I called that need the total price including a group cremation. I was quoted $450 total. The night I called to schedule for the next morning, I was told the cost would be $750. They are a rip off taking advantage of folks when they are in a time of great emotional pain. I called them on a Sunday for an in home euthanasia on an immobile, elderly, German Shepard with extreme veterinary anxiety. They quoted $540 just for the vet to show up with medication and leave our pet with us, which is what was advertised on the website (minus the fact that they'll leave the pet wherever he passes). $725 if we wanted a communal cremation for our pet. Even the local emergency vet was only $300 for the communal cremation and euthanasia. This is an outrageous charge. I have spoken to people all over the country who have used mobile vets for this service so that their pet can have a peaceful last few moments in their own home, and this is the most anyone has ever seen. Even in New York it was only $300 for the mobile vet. This company doesn't care about your pet, all they care about are the profits. They wanted almost half my rent just to come and help our pet, this is selfish and I will tell everyone I come into contact with, including every single veterinarian I ever meet, what my experience was and how much of a rip off this company is. 0/10 do not recommend. read more

AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS!!!!!! *** I had an appointment scheduled for my baby, Lola to be put to rest today by Dr. Megan, we made the appointment 3 days in advance. 3 hours before the appointment, she called my husband and left a VM saying she would be canceling, she left no return number, I called lap of love hysterical because I have been mentally preparing for this day and it took me 54 minutes before anyone even answered. My regular vet (Dr. Vinoski, who is a Godsend) had been giving me IV fluids to give to my puppy every 12 hours and I told him I would need enough to last me until Saturday morning. It is now Saturday afternoon and I have no way to get more IV fluids since my regular vet is closed. My poor baby started seizing last night and has had one continuously throughout the day today. Once I finally got in touch with lap of love, they said sorry there is nothing we can do, no one else is available and we don't know Megan's reason for canceling. Talk about an absolute HORRIBLE experience. I am now sitting here with my dog as she continues to suffer and I look for alternative places to help me with this matter. The random vets that I've spoken to have had more compassion than Lap of LOVE. whatever you do, stay far away. Can you imagine mentally preparing to lose your best friend after seeing them suffer and finally being at peace with it and then the person who is supposed to help, cancel a couple hours before with no reasoning as to why? This is a service that every pet owner should know about! Lap of Love helped me navigate through the worst weekend of my life. For quite a while now I've been dealing with a pet with a condition that would eventually become terminal. When I first heard about in-home euthanasia I was dead set against it as an option. It completely freaked me out and I'm honest enough to admit that the idea of it scared me as well. I started to change my mind the more I thought about it. The vet's office is a completely cold, unfamiliar environment. There are unknown dogs barking, unfamiliar people moving around, and no scents that he would be used to. When a friend later told me that she had used Lap of Love on her dog she had nothing but gushing praise for them. My guy had a great quality of life up until about a week and a half ago when I really started to notice him slipping. I was changing my mind hourly about what I was going to do. I called Lap of Love on Saturday and the woman I spoke to was compassionate and patient with me as I asked questions and she explained how they work. She went ahead and took down all of my contact information then because that would not be something I would want to do when I was an emotional wreck. I made the decision Saturday night that Sunday would be the day that I would say goodbye. I called back on Sunday and chose a late afternoon appointment, which was wonderful and horrible at the same time. I told my friend that I didn't understand how a day could be so excruciatingly long and lightning quick at the same time. I spent a lot of time sitting with him and we did have a great day together. Before I knew it the vet was calling me saying that he was on the way. We discussed everything outside because I didn't want a strange man's voice scaring him. I instantly felt at ease with Dr. Barry. He was thorough, compassionate, and let me do everything at my own pace. I went inside and put my guy in his favorite spot. I petted him while the vet came in and quickly gave him a shot containing a sedative. There was a quick, "Hey who are you moment?" but then he gently put his chin down. I got on my stomach and looked into his eyes. While he was falling asleep I was petting him and telling him how much I loved him. While we were waiting for him to fully fall asleep I shared some stories with Dr. Barry about how this dumb animal came into my life. Dr. Barry then gave his paw a spray of cold to see if he would react. He was still breathing but did not react to it at all. That made me feel better because I knew that he wouldn't be experiencing pain. If you've been under anesthesia before you know how that works. Once the vet made sure he was asleep and was not reacting to stimulus he administered the overdose of anesthesia that sent him on his way. Dr. Barry warned me of the natural reactions that could happen from this, but there weren't any. There was no pain and no reaction. Just a peaceful sleep in his favorite place. After he passed Dr. Barry stepped out so that I could bawl my eyes out in private. I thought that the event would be traumatic but in a way seeing him pass away so peacefully actually helped me. I didn't want to say goodbye, but since I had to this was exactly what I would have wanted. Him passing away in my living room wasn't horrible. It was a beautiful thing. He didn't die alone. He didn't die in a scary place surrounded by strangers. He died completely stress-free in his favorite spot looking into my eyes. It hurts right now but it makes me happy that I could give him this one last gift to thank him for all the love and companionship he gave me over many years. I would choose in-home euthanasia again in a heartbeat. Lap of Love's services aren't cheap, but considering that a veterinarian is coming to you I think that they are fair. I chose the private cremation option, which meant that Dr. Barry took him and would ensure that he was cremated alone. Not having to deal with that was a weight off of my shoulders. I had previously researched pet crematoriums that would come to your house and retrieve your pet. Lap of Love charges a fee that was comparable. You do have to pay extra for Lap of Love to come to your house on a weekend, but that is also understandable. I thank Lap of Love and Dr. Barry from the bottom of my heart. I had been going back and forth with the decision for a couple months and it had gotten to the point where the decision needed to be made. A neighbor had used Lap of Love before and my husband and I decided to try it out. For a Saturday afternoon appointment, it was only about $50 more than going to the vet. I'm so glad we made this decision. First of all, our pup was totally relaxed. We did not have to deal with getting him to the vet and the panic that ensues with that. The vet that came out was very caring and nurturing to our situation. She gave us all the time we needed with our little guy until we were ready. When it came time to administer the medication, it was a very peaceful process. Oscar (our dog) was surrounded by my husband, myself, and our other dog (Charlie). We were petting him and telling him it was ok the entire time. The vet, Dr. Nicole Garrity, allowed us to carry him out to the car and took care of everything from there. She also sent us a very caring text message and a card expressing empathy and letting us know about a pet loss support group. I was an emotional wreck and Lap of Love was completely understanding. It was a very peaceful process for our pup to cross the rainbow bridge in the comfort of his own home.
