Donna is funny, the haircut is OK and inexpensive. Probably not the place for a fancy haircut but for a basic one it is fast and convenient.

After many years of getting my hair cut by people who didn't know how to handle my hair type, one of my first haircuts handled by an Asian barber was here at Lansdowne. A recommendation by my cousin prompted me to give this place a shot after many failed adolescent haircuts had me looking like a East LA gangbanger (#1). My hair was getting extremely shaggy, which would've been the perfect camouflage with the predominantly Honger crowd at Lansdowne but would undoubtedly standout when I head over the US-CAN border again. I was never good at styling my own hair and neither were the many barbers / stylists who gave me the many false promises my hair would be fine when it was everything but. Then again, neither of them knew Asian hair. The man behind the barber chair was old school style barber who needed nothing more than a pair of scissors and some spray. There was no need for excessive styling, that's for salons. This is a barbershop. His barbershop. He went to town on my hair right away and I gave him free reign as I had no input for an ideal hair style. Some casual chit chat took place as he snipped off the locks of hair, turning my mop of a head into a cleaner, more civilian ready look than I had when I walked in. It was short, appropriate for the summer time, but certainly more than I was used to at the time. "I tailored your haircut to your personality," he says to me in Cantonese, "...and you will need to maintain it. You should come back in two weeks." When I revealed to him I didn't live in Vancouver, he let out a disappointed sigh and told me to visit often. Another disappointed sigh was let out when my mother came to get me and said out loud, "Wow, your haircut makes you look SO typical and boring." Thanks Mom. That was many years ago. Strolling by recently I walked past and noticed he had a few more barbers working with him, understandable price hikes, and a much stronger command of English. He recognized me after all of these years and came to shake my hand. "Please tell me you live here now!" he exclaimed. "I'm very happy to see you've kept up the hairstyle." I joked and told him I was too typical and boring to let it go. And he laughed. (#2) _________ (#1) Hence, I had to smile a lot to get people to not be scared of me. (#2) And did NOT disagree. Unacceptable. I went with my brother and he asked for a #1 on sides, the Asian woman went to a #0.5 because my brother said she messed up on one side. My brother also told her that he has this bump at the back of his head so he wants to cut to be low and of course she didn't do that. I watched it as it all happened and it was so hard not saying anything. The lines on the fade are not blended as it looks like stairs and my brother has this patch that's lighter in the back because of the bump he told her before the service. After the service she sprayed, what I think was hairspray.... A cut like this is worth $10 maybe less, but NOT $16! ON TOP OF THAT they only accept cash.... There is a lack of communication, this cut took about 10 min and it wasn't good. My brother should never go back. I know this barbershop has been here for years because my dad use to go there with my brother when we where a lot younger but over time you would think they will updated their technique or AT LEAST communicate with the client. read more

I've been going to see Donna at Landsdowne Barbers in Richmond for the last 6 years and I've never been disappointed. I do have asian hair so that seems to challenge some barbers but no big deal for her. I'm usually in and out by 25 minutes. I do have to mention that my cut is fairly simple. This was the worst cut I've had in my 3 years with this hairstyle, and I've gone to cheap salons before. I went in today for a trim for my undercut (my hair on top is chest-length, with shaved sides) -- there was nobody in the shop, and my barber did a super quick job (like 10 minutes or less) and pushed me out the door. It felt like a $12 haircut I'd get from a quick n' dirty shady salon, but I was fine with that, since the location was convenient. What I wasn't prepared for was taking my ponytail out and realizing how much hair on top she'd cut off due to her sloppiness cutting the part where the sides meet the top. I was literally pulling chunks of hair off my scalp (hair that I've been growing out for three years). I've found both cheaper and more expensive haircuts can't help but take off a few strands when they're using a shaver, but even the cheapest place I've been to used a comb to make sure they weren't taking big chunks off the top. My request wasn't difficult -- she just needed to pay the slightest bit of attention. She just haphazardly took the shaver to my head without a care in the world. The customer she had before her left with a really good fade, so I don't know if she had some vendetta against me or just wanted to pack up and leave. read more

I've had the same barber since I was 8 so it's hard for me trust anyone else cutting my hair. Went here for the first time yesterday and they did a great job. Fade came out clean and hairline lined up nice. Just a heads up that this place is cash only. read more
