Landers is a price club shopping outlet just like S&R. This is the second of two outlets that have opened in Metro Manila. The other one is in the Otis area of Paco.
It is subdivided similarly. On the right side from the entrance, there are electronics, home and office furniture and accessories, toys, clothes, some white goods, some small appliances. On the left side are their specialty foods, grocery items, and a supermarket area with fresh vegetables, fresh meat and seafood, and frozen imported items.
Prices are premium for their furniture and appliances but you might spot a good deal; they're a little scant on electronics (no audio, no tablets, phones, which is a bit surprising).
On the imported items side, there are some food ingredients I've kept in mind to buy - specialty cooking oils, some baking ingredients, premium jams, some dried nuts and fruits, frozen berries and peaches. Some of these are not found in S&R.
Even better, I think their meat selection is superior to... (well). There are good cuts of local meat, and they aren't already chopped up into tiny bits, which doesn't just limit their application, but is also much more sanitary.
For the first time in I don't know how long, I saw big cuts of beef that can be roasted instead of stewed or panfried, long racks of pork ribs, lamb shanks. On the imported meat side, all the more: there's bone-in lamb, a deboned lamb cut on the upper thigh part, and long rib-eye and beef loin cuts that lend themselves to commercial as well as home use - or big party cooking!
I can't comment on the fruits and vegetables, since i didn't look.
It has been open since early-mid June, so they are still are offering 20% discounts on membership: P640/320 on full and extension cards; their membership fees will go up to P800/400 after August 16.
One of the nicest perks of their card is the discount on gas at the Caltex station on their huge lot. There are "discounts of the day" on gasoline and diesel. As new members, we got P1.50 off diesel gas per liter and saved P70 on refilling a half-empty tank. Not bad, not bad.
The other nice thing about this place is they have pizza and chicken too (again similar prices) - and a coffee shop with cakes and pastries.
Landmarks: on EDSA, in the Balintawak area, heading northbound - drive past Munoz, past Home Depot, and stop right before the Wilcon Depot. You'll see signs and their co-located Caltex station. It is way before the NLEX cloverleaf; if you're there, you should continue on toward Monumento and find a U-turn slot. read more
