Fun, party rocking youth hostel located right in the center of Barrio Brazil. La casa Roja is a…read morehuge hostel and ideal for the social traveler who enjoys having both a bar and beautiful pool/hot tub right where they are staying. They also have their own mini tour office to help plan tours for their clients. They have 24 hour reception to keep high security and if you are planning to stay in Chile for an extended period they will trade reception shifts for a room. Their kitchen is huge if you want to save some money and do your own cooking while traveling. Their patio is my favorite part with the pool as I mentioned above and a huge grassy lawn, super ideal for the summer time. Their staff are friendly and are a diverse group of foreigners and locals. Their rooms are simple typical hostel style, nothing fancy or luxurious.

I've met people from almost everywhere, the environment is very cool! They also have a pool and outside bar which maybe makes it easier to make friends and hang out and if not, you can always meet at the kitchen, their enormous kitchen! A heaven for cooks! They do have hours so make sure you're in time. Check in wasn't great to be honest and the rooms are very simple, we had a thing with a male sleeping in our room even though it was girls only. We also had a problem with the reservation, we booked 4 nights with breakfast but for some reason they had us for bed only :/ The design is super cool, very nice for vintage lovers. Bottom line, if the hostel is full, you are promised to have a great time, keep in mind to notice everything while check in so you avoide any inconveniences...

Turned out to be an awesome area if you like restaurants, street vendors, narrow cobblestone streets, music, coffee shops, etc. Reminded me of the Village in NYC. We loved it! Somewhere to go every night and the local coffee shops were awesome. Grocery store not too far. Near metro/bus. Surprisingly, the room was quiet! Clean, comfortable room. The staff were friendly and helpful - took us to our room in a building around the corner, gave us information about skiing, let us leave our bags before check-in and after check out! They gave us excellent recommendations about walkable activities and let us sit in the small lobby to charge our phones. The price was unbeatable and we enjoyed our stay!

There are a number of restaurants a few blocks away, and the Plaza de Armas was definitely walkable. I'm not sure when I'll be back to Santiago, but whenever I come back I hope I can stay here again. The outdoor section at the back with the small pool and garden was particularly tranquil. I relaxed there for a while before my flight back home, and was reluctant to leave the relaxing atmosphere for the busy airport. Every afternoon they have an afternoon tea service, overlooking the garden and pool which I enjoyed a couple times. The staff were friendly and helpful...when I asked about extending by stay, they looked online to try to find the best rate for me. Also...when I was checking out and leaving my luggage (with a flight leaving in the evening), they mentioned having a bathroom and shower I could use to freshen up before my flight. That was *amazing* and so helpful. I've never been to another hotel that has something like that (or at least, none of mentioned it or offered), but it made such a huge difference, to be refreshed before traveling after a long day of exploring the city. The only related issue I had was that multiple times, it seemed like Uber / taxi drivers had a bit of trouble getting to the right street to pick me up or drop me off. It always ended up working, but something with the directions app that people were using was apparently confusing or mis-leading.
