I've been riding at Lance Williamson Stables for the past five years under Jennifer Crow. In that time, I've never once been disappointed with the lessons or atmosphere of the barn. It is clear that Lance and Jenny value the quality of their riders over quantity, a commendable virtue in trainers. Jennifer is exceptional at teaching all age groups from beginner riders to students competing at A and AA shows across the country. She can bring out talent that her students never knew they had. Lessons are educational and sometimes challenging, but always fun and rewarding. Each lesson is customized to meet the student's abilities. The school horses available are of a high standard and unlike most school horses, are suitable to be ridden in the show ring as well as for lessons. Also, Jennifer is an appealing instructor to everyone regardless of ambition. She takes an active role in the student's education and is willing to explain concepts and demonstrate why things work. She also lets the students do their own troubleshooting and giving valuable input to supplement a student's own intelligence. She can make students feel good about themselves as riders so that no one leaves feeling like they weren't good enough. Despite having many students who show regularly, Jennifer makes sure to recommend shows to students to fit their skill level and ability to succeed. The other riders at Lance Williamson Stables are friendly and helpful towards everyone. Both Jennifer and Lance are knowledgeable around horses and and make sure that all the horses in the barn are well cared for. For students who want extra time in the saddle, there's always a horse to ride along with days where riders can enjoy being around horses and in each others company. One thing I love about Lance Williamson Stables is my trainer, Jenny. She is a great trainer! She is always encouraging you and always makes you feel comfortable when riding. You will never be scared on a horse when Jenny is teaching you. She watches you in your lessons, through every ride, giving instructions throughout. She also catches your mistakes, and tells you exactly what you need to do to fix them. I feel completely confident when I ride with her. If you want to show, it is also a great place to come to. There is always shows that are available for you to go to with them. There is also always a horse for you to ride. You will never have problems when you don't own a horse. You will never get bored here. Sometimes there is "fun days," where you do all sorts of fun activities with horses! Otherwise, there are many horses to ride. Another thing I love are the people. Jennifer is the best instructor I've ever experienced. She works the entire lesson, never missing a mistake made by rider or horse. She doesn't just stand there and give pointers - she's engaged the entire ride. She gave lessons to both my young boy and my teenage girl and each walked away with a love and respect for Jennifer and an understanding of how much there really is to know about equines and riding. Frank is a phenomenal trainer! This man has a natural talent for training. He works well with children of all ages up to adults; his patience for children is like no other. His talent is shown through love and care for his horses and students! Lance Williamson has phenomenal workers who are kind to the horses, keep the stables exceptionally clean and work well as a team! What a hidden gem in Gurnee! We have had a great experience with Jenny at Lance Williamson Stables since my daughter switched to this barn in June 2012. My daughter receives excellent instruction as well as being in a friendly environment. Everyone went out of their way to make her feel comfortable, especially Jenny. Jenny has been a fabulous teacher for me, and from what I have seen she is excellent with both kids and adults, from beginner to advanced level. She is fun, kind, very knowledgeable and serious about the sport.
