Want to have fun, feel energized, meet people, move to the music and get fit all at the same time?…read more Then you have to do what I did, and get over to Jazzercise at Woodmere Park! (Or a location near you) I used to be a dyed-in-the-wool "gym rat", at the gym at 5:30am when they opened, doing the same thing 5 days every week for years (yawn). No wonder I got bored! But with Karen (the owner/instructor) and the other instructors at Jazzercise, it's always fresh, because everyone's personalty is different. So each one has something unique to bring to each class, keeping it upbeat and fun. We work out, we sweat, we laugh, and we leave feeling energized. It simulates actual skulling with displays showing your individual stats and the entire classes as well. Several types of classes - some that combine intervals of weight lifting and stretching with rowing - are offered. Great workout for legs, core and cardio. Even if just open row without a coach. Staff is very nice. Coaches are very personable. They say the classes are appropriate for beginners through advanced fitness levels. I would recommend the Restore classes which are limited if you are not in at least average fitness shape. When I first started they had some 30 minute express restore classes which I found challenging as a newbie. They have express signature classes as an option which incorporates light hand weights interspersed with rowing intervals. For more intense exercise options they have 45 minute full row classes. Price wise they are fair when comparing to other specialty/ boutique gyms. Multiple price points from $79 for 4 classes a month to $159 unlimited. They will have specials on holidays, free into sessions and packages. They celebrate meter milestones! Holiday themed rows as well.

I…read moredidn't really know what to expect, but the trainer, Chris, quickly explained how the class would proceed, gave us a demo of the rowing machines, and showed us how to properly use the TRX ropes. The workout was very low impact, which was a nice change from all the crazy stuff you find out there these days. My fiancé, friend, and I all still worked up a decent sweat. It was definitely beginner friendly, but the exercises could easily be adjusted for higher difficulty. Exercises included rows, squats, pull-ups, and lunges with the TRX ropes, dumbbell chest presses, bicycle kicks, planks, and rowing. Overall, I really enjoyed my experience here. Chris was very enthusiastic and helpful, constantly moving around the gym to make sure everyone had good form. It seems like he has amassed a regular crowd, which says a lot about him as a trainer. I would definitely go to Soul Rooster again, especially if I'm in the need for something low impact with variety to stave off the boredom that so often goes hand in hand with working out.
