No organic snack options. Of all the snacks. Not one. Vending machines in hotel have a couple options

Charming restaurant with friendly staff. We enjoyed looking through the boutique area which has…read moreclothing and decor items. The food was delicious and fresh and served with a smile. The quiche was lovely as was the soup and scones. The California salad was also wonderful

I had lunch here recently with my husband's family. We were a party of 10. For a restaurant in a…read moretiny village, I was pretty impressed. So Marcanda is actually a gift shop, clothing store and restaurant. The gift shop has really cute kitschy gifts. They have things such as decorations for your cottage (like a sign shaped like a buoy that says "Go jump in the lake!"), and what I affectionately call "dust collectors" like crystal birds, and other things that look pretty, but just sit on the bookshelf/mantle and collect dust, lol. They have soaps and candles too. Their clothes were not exactly my style, but would appeal to women who like to shop at places like TanJay and ALIA. I noticed many pieces were made in Canada. As for their food, it's basically soups, sandwiches/wraps, salads and quiches. So café fare. I had the Marcanda Sampler ($11.99) which consisted of the soup of the day (which was tomato beef macaroni), the quiche of the day (which was a spinach, bacon and feta), an herb scone, and your choice of Mandarin, Caesar or Garden salad (I chose the Mandarin salad). The Mandarin salad consisted of mixed greens, mandarin oranges, strawberries, sliced almonds and red onions. It usually comes with a poppy seed dressing, but I substituted for the "Summer Citrus" dressing. The ingredients were all fresh and the dressing (which I got on the side) was sweet and lemony - tasted like lemon and honey. It was good. The soup was full of chunks. It was my kind of soup (I hate soups that are just broth). This one was full of beans, ground beef, macaroni, tomatoes, onions and carrots. It was really flavourful, but not too salty, nor too fatty. The scone I could take or leave, but I'm not really into scones. I took a bite and gave the rest to my husband. He loved it though. The quiche was excellent. It was full of spinach, cheese and bacon. The egg part wasn't too runny, nor too firm. It was just right. I usually do not eat the crust of quiches, but this crust was fantastic; I even ate the edge part. The crust was so crispy and didn't taste like it was full of lard or Crisco (which is what I hate about crusts). I also got the Peanut Butter Ice Cream pie for dessert. It was so rich and decadent. The ice cream had a strong peanut butter flavour to it and it went so well with the Oreo cookie crumb crust. The crust was minimal (which is my preference). The ice cream had some peanut butter crisps in it, which gave it some nice texture, some of the crisps were sprinkled on top and on the plate too. The chocolate sauce drizzle was also delicious. It tasted like it was made of real chocolate, not that cheap syrup. We were there for a Saturday lunch and the place was completely empty. We were the only customers. I was a bit surprised, but it was nice to have the whole restaurant to ourselves. Everyone seemed to enjoy their meals and desserts. Service was nice and friendly.
