My family and I have used several of this YMCA's services and have had an excellent experience with each one. We started out just with the regular gym membership, which includes access to the indoor pool and a variety of free classes they offer, including Zumba, HIT, spin, and a few different levels of yoga. The machines have always been clean and in good functioning order in my experience, and I was especially excited to see they added a Jacob's Ladder to their line up of equipment. There's a semi private weights area, which helps keep the lifters away from the treadmills and ellipticals, and there's also a small dimly lit space for anyone looking to do some yoga or meditating on their own. The pool is used by local swim teams and ocassional lessons or aqua zumba, so be mindful of the location's posted schedule (online or at the front desk when you come in) before making plans to visit. Nothing more disappointing than wanting to do laps, only to find the space has been reserved for other activities. After those large activities, the shower rooms sometimes leave a little to be desired, but for the most part, they're decent. We were so impressed with the facilities, that we quickly extended our membership to include the outdoor pool, which is large and offers a variety of options for families -- there's a kiddie wading pool with neat features for little ones, a shallow area for new swimmers, a fun slide, diving boards, and a very large swimming area, usually with at least one lap lane roped off. There's limited food at the concession window (temper your expectations there), but they're OK with you bringing in your own food and snacks. We've even had pizza delivered on the nice days when we decided to stick around past lunch or dinner. My daughter has also participated in youth soccer and basketball teams here. The soccer fields are abundant, and the one that our group always used was in good shape. The basketball area is often split in two to accommodate large classes (like Zumba), but during basketball, they opened the full court up for the kids. It's a decent space, and I appreciate both the court-side bleacher seating they provide as well as the large windows so that parents can watch from the hallway. For the past two summers we've used the YMCA as a summer camp, and my daughter enjoys their activities and field trips. I appreciate that they get to swim every week and spend the majority of their time outside. Pricing is comparable to other summer programs and day cares we've used in the area. Just recently I've started working with one of the YMCA's trainers, and have been really pleased with my experience. They paired me up with an excellent instructor, Desi, who has worked with me to help strengthen my core and balance. She's introduced me to a bunch of different exercises, taught me to use a variety of tools (ball, bands, step-up boxes), and has personalized each session so I have a new routine and new things to work on every week. All around my schedule! All this and I didn't even mention the roller hockey ring, kids playground, on-site child care center, kids play room, or walking path that cuts through the property. I love this YMCA me and my family love going here when we wanna swim or me and my husband can go work out and not have to worry about our kids because they can go into a class of other kids and an adult to watch over them.Love this ymca u should really think about going here. read more

I hate this YMCA. The treadmills always have something that isn't working properly. The staff does not observe people in the gym. Now we have our annual problem with the gym being so hot that it's impossible to do a proper workout. They need some responsible people to run that place. The present staff obviously doesn't care. They are not the only game in town anymore. Planet Fitness is great and many people are changing to them. I'm going to planet Fitness where you get what you pay for. read more

I like this y the most in the area because of how spacious it is. Treadmills are never al taken, the gym area itself is laid out in a nice open fashion where you don't feel like you have five people working out on top of you using up all of your oxygen. There is a walled off workout room that is a nice addition in the main gym area with its own rack and row of dumbbells. The studio is spacious and empty in the evenings which is another nice area to use. There's also a nice walking trail around the property. Three stars because the equipment (dumbbells, racks) are outdated and dirty, rollers are so old they're not usable, pool is very old and too warm for strenuous workouts, there is no chalk for pull ups and the racks the bars are on are totally slippery (must have been the cheaper option to buy because most other gyms have non slip grips), staff has been mostly helpful and attentive when needed. read more

Too bad I couldn't stay a member! I joined because the LS-Y is very close to me, but after going 2 times I canceled. Why? 1. The gym feels dirty. 2. The exercise machines are not only of poor quality, but are not well maintained. Some have been broken for some time. The vinyl seats and padding are cracked and torn. Paint is peeling and rust is bubbling up. Simply nasty! 3. The men's locker room is poorly designed. No under bench or above the locker storage for your gym bag. Lockers are rusty. Floor is dirty. Same with showers with broken soap dispensers and some out of soap. There is a hair blo-dryer which has never been cleaned. It's all clogged up with lint. Too bad, I had high hopes for this Y. It's not that old and already is well worn around the edges. read more

As I've been traveling across the country by car I've occasionally stopped by YMCAs to take a shower. Usually the Ys will charge a small fee of $2-3, sometimes nothing at all (lookin' at you Tulsa YMCA!) Not here. When I asked about doing this at the front desk the help sort of looked crosseyed at me as though they'd never heard of someone doing this before then told me that I'd have to buy a day pass for $15 just to take a shower. When I mentioned that this was very unlike any other Y I'd been to the senior guy there (actually a twenty-something unsympathetic chump) just looked at me as if to say "so what?" I didn't realize that the Lampeter Strasburg YMCA was such an exclusive organization and quite unlike any other Y I'd visited. It probably goes without saying that it deserves zero stars but... you know. BTW, the same thing happened at the Y in Lancaster but there, after calling the boss (Tom?) and finding out that they'd have to charge me $15 as well, the desk staff winced as they told me that, realizing just how unreasonable that was. I say the YMCA in Lampeter Strasburg is really good I like the indoor pools I like the equipments and I like seeing people having fun and that's what I like to say and it's really cool and it's really nice in there so I'm really having a good time and their stupid at the pool outside is closed but I can't use that so anyway it's really cool have a good day read more

If you're in the Lampeter-Strasburg area, and looking for a gym, this is really the only game in town. That is not to say this is a bad gym, in fact I think it's pretty dang good. It is definitely a community gym. There are people of all shapes, sizes, and ages. Almost everyone should feel comfortable here. My only complaint is that sometimes it does get a bit crowded, especially the circuit weight machines. But that's not so bad. read more

I am extremely disappointed in the L-S YMCA. My family joined for 3 main reasons & all three have let us down. They keep cancelling group fitness classes without communicating the change. This morning, I showed up at 5:30 a.m. For a class that was removed from the schedule, yet was still literally listed on the schedule (both online & in print). The into to sports programs are not taught at the intro level. The coach does not effectively go over the basics for 5 year old level. For an 8 week session of swimming lessons, my son had 4 different teachers. How is a kid supposed to establish trust with such a rotation of swimming coaches? read more

This is a great place. I have loved coming to the y since we moved here in the last couple months. I really enjoy the classes and I love the fact that they have an outdoor running path I can run while my kids are in the childcare. read more
