I came here on a hot Sunday, and there were a smoothie/shave ice truck and a soft serve truck parked nearby in the swim center parking lot for purchase.

The instructor who gave the lesson was good, very encouraging and clearly a great instructor. If I could rate the instructor alone, I would give a 5-star review. These reviews completely scared us a year ago, and a year of trying Park & Rec classes and skateboarding camps where our child really didn't make progress, we enrolled here after a word-of-mouth recommendation. Our child has enjoyed and learned so much through his trainers (extraordinaire!), he has gone from wanting to master a skill, to being held back by fear, and then amazing confidence on the skateboard, and not just that, the summer camp is legit one of the few camps in the city where children actually learn new skills, and bond and have great fun - and have good restrooms to use and sinks to wash hands! Private lessons are not cheap, but thankfully last minute cancellations can be 'bought back' with a small fee.

What brings me here today? Well, my daughter's boyfriend planned a picnic for his family and friends. This park is up in the Oakland Hills and in a somewhat different environment compared to several parks that I have been to in Oakland - Mosswood Park, DeFremery Park and Middle Harbor Shoreline Park for picnics. Less noise, hardly any sea gulls waiting to pounce on any remnant of food on the ground, no riff raffs crashing a picnic. Our group was situated in one area of the park with plenty of picnic tables and a bbq pit. I noticed further away was a play area for families with children. Usually I would get up and start exploring. However, old age has crept up on me. I just sat, ate my food and put in two requests for music. (No diggity...gotta bag it up...Blackstreet in the house followed with Groove Me by Guy). Always a hit at a picnic is Before I Let Go by the late Frankie Beverly and Maze. Perhaps I did not stay long enough to see if anybody was get them bones out for dominos or cards for spade. The weather got cold and I was tired.

We do see dogs in the pickle ball area occasionally. As long as nobody's regulating, I guess they are fine. There are 4 courts and it can get a little annoying when the neighboring courts ball goes into your court since there's no barrier. There is cement stadium seating up on top so you can look down and watch the games if you like. Can get very sunny and windy depending on the day so be prepared! There are little benches on the size where you can place your stuff while you play. Be careful sitting on it, might be wobbly. Have not used the restrooms here, but heard sometimes they're closed or dirty. People usually go up to the Lucky supermarket around the corner to use the restroom.

The views are picturesque and it's quite serene for how busy it is. The second half of the trail (after you loop around near the fallen tree) isn't paved and in poor weather would be likely too muddy to be particularly safe, so I would probably walk elsewhere after a good rain or while it's drizzling. All in all, we had nevr been to this lake before and it was gorgeous so we fully intend to return!

Millions of Dogs!…read more This park is obviously dog heaven. On an early Monday morning in October, there were lots of dogs playing catch with their owners. They were all having a great time, and none were biting. (The dogs I mean, not the owners. I'm pretty sure the owners never bite.) This is a pretty good-sized park, with a huge grassy area. Everything is pretty well maintained, although the restrooms are closed. Instead, they have some porta potties there. The kids play area is railroad themed, with some history of the Moraga train station. I really loved the train station ticket counter. I found several drinking faucets in the park as well. There was plenty of parking, at least on a weekday. Not sure about weekends Near the kids playground is the entrance to the East Bay MUD hiking trails. You have to go through this park entrance to get to the trails. The road is fenced off. There was a little kiosk near the trailhead, where you are supposed to put your name and permit number. The permits are really cheap, so be sure to get one.
