This Corte Inglés was recently renovated and expanded to have a fantastic "gastronomic zone" that has multiple areas dedicated to different areas of Spanish gastronomy (bakery, seafood, wines, etc.) bu also has mini-restaurants offering a variety of speciality dishes (i.e. Imanol Vasque pinxos franchise) with sit-down areas. This is a place to experience and enjoy. The rest of the Corte Inglés are literally floors and layers of high-end boutiques and dedicated areas for clothing, bags, shoes, etc. From international luxury brands like Gucci, Prada, Etro, but also Spanish brands like Purificación García, Emilio Tucci, etc.

Any given late afternoon at this particular location you will find long check out lines on each floor. Forget shopping on Fridays and Saturdays, it is a madhouse. If you must, be prepared to spend at least 3 hours finding that snazzy smokin outfit that fits you, and checking out. The low down: you will shop til you drop, you will be frustrated about the fit unless you are way on the thin side and are tallish (best fit if you are average height and weight are the Zara Collection or Zara Mujer lines), you will have fun buying some fairly nice, big designer, off the runway pret-a-porter knock-offs and.....you will have those "bitch stole my look" moments- more than once, if you reside in Madrid. However, I felt very watched while I was there. I had gone downstairs and a male employee followed me and then stopped at the top of the stairs when I was looking around. I knew he was keeping an eye on me since I was the only one down there. This wouldn't have bothered me so much if he had come all the way down and either fixed the merchandise or checked the dressing rooms. Since he just stood at the top of the stairs when I was down in the basement, I felt very uncomfortable and this gave me a negative shopping experience. After about 5 minutes of him watching me from the top of the stairs, I left. I would have bought something if that didn't happen, but I just felt so uncomfortable.

I am a glutton for punishment…read more I also really want to give it another star, because I think the clothes are very stylish, hip, beautiful, cute, fashion forward, etc....and the quality is better than most of the other women's clothing stores (at this price level) in Spain. The leather products: shoes, boots, purses, belts, accessories, are way cool. The quality is good, but not stellar. You will walk into the store and slowly but surely become overwhelmed by all of the eye candy. Then, you will start to sift around for your size and then you will happily make a b-line for the dressing room. You close the curtain, and that's when the trouble begins. You will try on that blouse or skirt or dress in the size that you've worn your entire adult life but are now realizing that the upper part of that blouse sleeve will start cutting off your circulation within a few minutes and that that waist cut is not going to go up any further than your thighs. It is very disappointing. You flash to the anorexic models on the Hakei website and catalogue, you are reminded of the hungry and unhappy looking girls who work there, and you will realize that the only way you will be able to fit properly into the vast majority of this brand's clothing line is if you cut back to eating half a sandwich and smoking a pack of cigarettes a day. Ok. I may be exaggerating some. In the past year, I've bought numerous pairs of shoes and boots, belts and some blouses. And I am happy with my purchases. But, it's a roll of the dice when it comes to the clothing, really. Unless you are built like a small boy, you are going to be let down many times. And unless you have money to burn, you will quickly realize that the quality does not match the price.

There is good traffic control for single item customers and those with the monster carts full of wares. Bring your passport or photo if you want to file for the VAT waiver.
