Lambert and Barr completed a significant home addition for us that included a larger master bedroom with a vaulted ceiling and exposed wood beam, a walk-in closet, a spacious bathroom, and a covered porch that seamlessly integrates into our existing home. They were involved in every phase of the project from design collaboration, architectural planning, finish selections, excavation, foundation, construction, and final detail work. The quality of the work was fantastic, especially in the vaulted ceiling and beam work. The new porch and bedroom blend so naturally into the house that you would never know they were added later. The absolute worst contractor that I've ever worked for!! Absolutely clueless!! They have no idea how to run a job efficiently!! Jim who claims to be a master carpenter can't build a dog house!! He has his clueless daughter jen running jobs. She has no idea of what she's doing!! One example is..She double charged a client for a 45 degree bay window!! Jen suggested the placement of the window!! When i arrived to install the window i noticed that it would inhibit the bulkhead basement door from functioning. I called jim before i installed the window to report the problem. He screamed at me and told me to install it anyway!! He said that they will sell the homeowner on relocating the bulkhead door!! My personal opinion is avoid Lambert and Barr!! read more

After a fire we hired Lambert&Barr. We subsequently sued them and they were found quilty of negligence, breach of contract and violating the CT unfair trade paractice. They not only butchered our house but charged us for items they chose not to put in and double charged for other items. So far we have had to fix the new stairs they put in (sinking), repair other stairs they damaged, replace or fix electrical work, replace or fix their plumbing work, replace garage doors and the door openers that were full of Sheetrock dust. We also need to: replace all the inside doors that were not installed properly and they butchered; replace the new deck and front porch they did and which are now unsafe; replace part of the roof, roofing material and siding which were done incorrectly; and the list goes on and on. They cannot manage a project and blamed us for butchering our house. Do not hire these people! read more

Taken from an earlier write-up: We totally renovated the main floor of our house, installed new heating, plumbing, electrical wiring, created a new kitchen, moved one bathroom and created another, added a new water system. We tore down the old dark wood paneling, and made everything light bright and airy with nice white walls. We installed new windows, hardwood flooring, new tiling. Basically the modernization of a 1970s house--one with electric baseboard heating and copper piping running through the concrete slab of the foundation--Basically nearly everything but the shell of my house had to go. I might add our new plumbing system required new connections to our septic tank, and Lambert and Barr handled the excavation efficiently and neatly. And since the company owns its own excavating equipment, it ended up costing me less than if we had to subcontract that task out, too. Lambert and Barr handled every detail of this massive job with care, precision and a great crew. Two excellent master carpenters, a dedicated painter and masonry worker, and Lambert and Barr also coordinated independent subcontractors for the electrical, plumbing and HVAC work. Who all did excellent work and were always responsive. We also realized along the way, we needed other tasks done...rewiring the garage lights, hooking up new outdoor lighting, and building a new cap for my septic tank which the previous owner had buried under three feet of gravel and paving stones. They also looked at my garage and realized one of the supports was rusting out so they fixed that, too. At my cost, since it was not in the scope of the original proposal. I could go on, but another positive is that Lambert and Barr have a backup office staff where we could always reach them and discuss things on a day to day basis. That was invaluable. read more

I hired Lambert & Barr to renovate a small 100 yr old bunkhouse on my property. I called many contractors and either never received a call back or had someone come out for an estimate and never heard again. They were timely, extremely neat, professional and the craftsmanship superior. They maintained the beauty and integrity of the old structure while updating and making it fresh and new too. They responded promptly to questions and concerns. Their careful planning enabled us to preserve an old stone fireplace and secure the foundation at the same time by jacking the building- truly more than a side job or a less than experienced business could handle. This was probably a smaller job for them, but to me this was huge and they never made me feel like it was too small of a project. I will use them for additional needs in a heartbeat. All the values they have are hard to come by in a contractor. read more
