A traditionally built large stone house, it has a beautifully large and relaxing garden. From a convivial living room area the gardens can be accessed by some patio doors and drinks taken out in any of the secluded tables located around the water fountain area. The style of the rooms is traditional and comforting. This is a very relaxing place to stay and spend quiet time at. Do not stay here if you want the latest in home entertainment and bells and whistles in your bedroom. Do stay here if you want an escape from mainstream hotel businesses and 'connectivity' with the world. Dinning here is excellent and very relaxed and friendly. The wine list is apparently very good.

If you have mobility issues, let them know at booking time- as there would be great difficulty with the stairs & hallways if you had walking or balance issues. (Hint: Room #1 is larger and next to the front & the pub.) Clean room, modest furnishings, a bit worn, but clean. The bath had a small stand up shower, but the water was hot after a long day. TV, hairdryer, clothes iron, water kettle & tea service - all provided. Also the location is very close (short walk) to the city center and Salisbury Cathedral, with lots of eating & pub options. Morning breakfast buffet (extra) was good & filling, with hot fresh eggs, meats, cheeses, beans, toast, jellies/jam, juices, teas & coffee. Worth the dosh in my humble opinion. The bar was a nice snuggery, but the selection was limited in offerings. Go for convenience & location, and if the weather is good, eat in the courtyard and pet the feral but friendly black cat that roams the hotel. Overall, it wasn't a bad visit, and I'd probably stay again, but I'd much prefer a larger room in future. Recommended, but with care on room selection, B+

The clubs don't shut down until 3:30 AM and then all of the club goers hit the street for food, fighting and being loud. If they are staying in the hotel, they are loud in the hallways. It never ends. We got more sleep in our car than we did in the hotel room. Our rooms should have never been booked

Our room was comfortably large, with a view over the sports complex (the cricket field). The both room (shower, no bath) was clean, roomy and bright with shiny clean subway tiles. The bed was comfortable, the temperature could be set comfortably and windows can be opened for fresh air when desired. We had a very comfortable visit indeed. The cooked breakfast was excellent together with a healthy selection of quality "continental breakfast" items. Two thumbs up - you can't go wrong here!

The food is average, quality having depleted in recent months, a change of chef possibly??? Bar food is reasonably priced and they also have a resturant which is fairly pricey but clearly better quality food. The pub is clean and modern with a good selection of beer on draught and the inside seating is mainly wooden benches. In the winter there is a fantastic log fire, ideal for warming up around after a walk along the sea wall, that is if you can get anywhere near it!

The mayflower can get very busy in the summer when the sailing crowd descend in their droves. The rooms are decent, but the decor a bit tired.

In 1685 the Duke of Monmouth's officers gathered here on the eve of the Battle of Sedgemoor, where they were defeated by the forces of King James II. The infamous Judge Jeffries held his Bloody Assize in the Great Hall of the castle shortly afterwards. Over 200 rebels from the Monmouth Rebellion were tried, convicted and then hanged, drawn and quartered. A further 800 were transported to the West Indies to work on the sugar plantations. The building we see today is a Grade II listed, 18th century reconstruction of the original Norman castle, but does incorporate the original east gate, Castle Bow, which boasts 13th century features.

It's a unique experience to say the least. Coming through the front, revolving door had an old world charm that was very welcoming (even though I snagged my luggage). The front desk staff were all super friendly, accommodating, and professional. The room was huge! I don't know how I ended up with a suite but I certainly did not book it nor pay extra so, the only conclusion is they upgraded me because it was available? No matter, I was in awe! I cannot recommend this place enough, it's a castle! Unforgettable.

This place must be absolutely hopping in the summer! The pig is a restaurant and a hotel, on a beautiful piece of land on the water. I have included several pictures of the view. This is a true farm to table restaurant. We enjoyed a long leisurely lunch that included the 'piggy and fishies' tray, homemade warm bread, cauliflower soup and fish and pork chop mains. Absolutely fantastic meal with wine pairings. We then retired to the lounge for coffee and a bit of a rest before the journey home. A+! The ambiance is 'elegant countryside' and service was top notch. I absolutely must return here with my family in short order as they would love it. PS- may have picked up a bit of a Brit accent while here!!

The accommodations are incredibly tasteful. It's a good mix of antiques and contemporary luxury, with top notch bedding and beautiful, completely remodeled bathrooms. The breakfast room is charming and the breakfast was our best breakfast in England! The fresh homemade jam is not to be missed! The staff was excellent and very accommodating, even offering breakfast a half hour early one morning so we could eat before our early departure.
