Extremely unhappy with the service my mother received at this dental office. She went in for a root canal, and the dentist only completed half of the procedure but insisted it was finished. My mother's tooth became inflamed shortly after, causing her a lot of pain. It's clear that the work was incomplete, and now she has to find another dentist to fix this mess. This place has the absolute worse business practice I have ever met. They are all about making quick money, by charging those who are underprivileged and prying on those whose English is their second language. They advertise with such grace, but when you're at the office they are rude and condescending. Ana, the lady at the front desk has no class, is rude, and is out for her own well-being. This office cheated my mom of thousands and thousands of dollars with poor work to be shown for it. Her teeth have not gotten better since her visit and instead have gotten worse. They are not upfront about what they are doing and have miscellaneous charges. How do you have a practice in making individuals smile better, but yet have the audacity to ruin it with your shady practice. Ana, will lie directly to you over the phone and to your face. When I had questions, she would give responses such as: -"I'm busy" -"call back tomorrow" , when clearly their office is closed! -When i call during office hours, she will tell me that they are not opened. A couple weeks later, my grandpa got a bad toothache and needed a root canal. Dr. Lam got him right in on a Sunday! This dentist is a quack! I went in to inquire the braces. Without asking me to open my mouth to actually check my teeth, all he did was put some foam/ paper in each side of my mouth and told me to start biting/ chewing on it. He then took the foam out and just merely stared at it and told me that my alignment of the teeth is all off. If I were to get braces then he would need to extract 2 teeth before he could do anything. First of all my teeth isn't that bad, just a bit of crowding on the bottom row. He said I should consider it soon because my teeth would wear away in time. He just made my teeth sound so seriously bad that I was greatly disappointed. I visited another dentist to confirm. Another dentist actually did some REAL tests on my teeth and looked at them before commenting. He said that my teeth is actually very beautiful, nice shape and color, just the crowding in the bottom row and it could be taken care of within 12 to 16 months. He said "There's no need to extract any of the teeth, and I don't want to do that because your teeth is so beautiful. Your problem is mild." Next, teeth cleaning- I have done cleaning there 2 times and it just felt horrible. First time, he suggested me to do a regular cleaning every 6 months and a DEEP cleaning every 2 years. People, Deep cleaning is for people with severe gum disease. I went to another dentist who said my gum is just fine and there's no need to do a deep cleaning. The next time for cleaning, He asked this one young assistant who was still in college, cleaning my teeth and made me bleed. With my current dentist now, I couldn't feel much going on while the cleaning was going on and it was done before I knew it. I have had the most horrible experience there. I simply did not feel comfortable there, even for a regular cleaning. Sure, the people were "nice" and talkative because we are their customers. This older woman who worked at the front desk (she is PROBABLY his wife, after reading the reviews) was saying how MANY clients fly across the states to see this dentist, yea right!!! Lam Keiking is bogus. I highly doubt his expertise. After confirming with my new dentist (Who is AWESOME), I realize alot of things that Lam KeiKing said is bogus. Either he is a quack, or he is just trying to sell more extra work to do on your teeth. He would exaggerate to an extent where you feel disappointed and scared so you would book another appointment with him very soon. People, there are better dentists out there! read more

This is going to be a long review. I apologize. You can say I signed up for Yelp just to write this review. I would give them a 1 star, but I do feel this guy has experience. He does his job for sure. He just goes about it the wrong way. His staff are nice, but they seriously need to be more attentive. I kinda wish I read these yelp reviews before coming here. I got my braces here recently on a Sunday and I literally laid there for 4.5 hours in the most uncomfortable position with tubes sucking the living day lights out of me because they were short staffed. I was treated mainly by the older assistant. So yes, I agree with the bottom reviews that the wait is long. They could've finished my braces within 2 hours, but there were times I was left in a middle of a procedure. The assistants are also not really attentive and tend to make mistakes at times. This includes spraying my face with water when turning to talk to another patient because she forgot to turn off the hose. She didn't notice her mistake until 3 seconds later when half my face was wet. Other times, she would be using the wrong tools. Teeth are important and if you got someone who doesn't know 100% what they're doing, you probably shouldn't go there. BUT, I went there thanks to my mom. Like some other reviewers said, I believe this older assistant/manager is the wife of Dr. Lam. I remember others calling her Anna. She is real nice, but she tends to boast a lot about Dr. Lam as if he's a living god. I will warn you that the assistants do not really explain what they're doing to you. So if you want a step by step update on something, you best ask them in detail. Also, being a Photography major myself, Dr. Lam is extremely proud of his work. You'll probably see his photographs hanging off his walls if you were to visit his office. He actually showed me some of his work and asked if I'm free some time to go on a photo shoot with him. I found this quite entertaining but made me feel a bit uncomfortable seeing as how he wouldn't stop talking about his AWESOME photography skills. Mrs. Lam enjoys boasting about how awesome Dr. Lam is and Dr. Lam enjoys boasting about how awesome he is. Seriously guys, seriously? I've visited here twice so far. Let's just say, it's not the most sanitary place. My piercings surely do agree. I know piercings and hospitals generally do not mix. Still, I have one piercing that always get infected every time I visit his office. It doesn't make sense that I always leave with an infection in that same area. Still, despite the wait time and his unhygienic office, he still looks like he knows his stuff. It's just sad that he seems to be the only one who is doing all the work around there. Dr. Keiking Lam DDS is a scary dentist who does not have good skill on root canal. Pick another dentist while you still can. My mom needed root canal in March 2012. After about 10 appointments, 1 follow-up surgery to re-do and 8 months later. She was still in a lot of pain. We went back to the office and asked to refund a portion of $1500. My 73yrs old mother needed the money in order to see another dentist since she didn't have dental insurance (industry standard refund 1/2 for poor result according to other dental offices). Dr. Lam's wife who worked at the front desk refused and told us they DO NOT have a refund policy. NO exceptions. All follow-up appointment & follow-up surgery must be paid by patient. From their action and performance, I feel they're more focus on making $$$ than taking care of us, the patients. Stay away from this husband and wife team. read more

Been to a lot of dentist and this is by far the worse experience I ever had. Prices are very expensive and the effort they put in is insulting. My parents brought me into here for dentistry for the past few years saying how they are good but here is how it usually goes at least for me: -Wait a long time usually past the appointment time to get to the dental chair, not that I mind but the doctor usually juggles a lot of patients at once so there's even more waiting beyond that -The doctor's nurse usually comes and do some preliminary things and check ups and when the doctor finally comes he works fast and it feels like he's rushing to get rid of you since there are maybe 4 other patients he is working on at the same time. The doctor usually rushes off before I could get my questions answered and it seemed like he is annoyed by my questions even though I wanted to understand what the procedures he was doing is. I might not be a future dentist but it would be nice if the doctor spent time explaining things and what he's going to do rather than doing a mediocre job and pushing you off after you paid. -The doctor assistants usually finishes up whatever job the doctor didn't finish and their work is normally not that great. This is especially true for people getting braces here. -Then when everything is done for the day, the doctor's wife usually comes along and tries to talk you into doing some procedure that you don't need, usually criticizing the job of other dentists that have done cavity fillings or stuff like that. One of the worse experience that I had when the doctor was doing wisdom teeth extraction for me and I had to get numbed twice because the doctor had to go back and forth with other patients and while he was doing surgery since my wisdom teeth was on the bottom. He actually walked away to another patient while his assistant was searching for some tool he needed during the surgery. So i sat there with my gums cut open for a few minutes without anyone attending to me. Seeing how other reviewers here had bad experience and probably a lot more who have not posted, I would say be careful if you do decide to see this doctor or avoid it all together read more

I have particularly sensitive teeth in that it is remarkably difficult for me to get numb. I had to get two root canals and so I feared that I may not be able to get numb via traditional anesthetic injections. However, Dr. Lam was so adept at his craft that he was able to numb me through injections alone! During the root canal along with everything else that he does, I can see that Dr. Lam truly puts in the time and effort to ensure that the procedures were performed proficiently. Dr. Lam is a perfectionist and he will go to great lengths to do things right, not just for dental procedures, but also for patient comfort. I feel very lucky to have found such a wonderful dentist. 5/5 would get a root canal again. read more

The front desk is actually also the assistant of the dentist. She touched the sterilized dental instruments with bare hand. I was going to get my wisdom teeth taken out at UCSF but they were taking too long to set an appointment so I gave Dr Lam's office a call and they were able to schedule a surgery that week. I came in, got all 4 wisdom teeth taken out for a reasonable price (even though I didn't have dental insurace), and was out the door in less than 2 hours. I dropped by for the next couple weeks to have him inspect my mouth and all seemed to be well so he must've done a real good job; barely any pain or bleeding post-surgery, and a speedy recovery. definitely would come back in the future read more

I experienced no problems or pain in my teeth/gums and felt great after my appointment. I haven't been at a better, more organized and clean dental office in all my years living in San Francisco.
