Lalehzar is one of the hidden 'gems' in the Jewellery Quarter! A family-run Persian restaurant located on Great Hampton Street, directly opposite the College of Law.
The interior is quite basic, but very bright and clean - yellow walls, white ceramic tiles, traditional Persian music playing in the background.
The food is delicious and extremely cheap - I really do not know how they make money? When I was here with a friend on Friday night, there were only one other couple in the restaurant and a few people coming in for takeaways.
The menu consists mainly of lamb dishes, with some chicken and a very limited number of vegetarian options - still, just about enough to get by!
The portions of both the starters and the mains were very generous - so much so, I could not finish the mains!
After this, they offer complimentary tea and dessert! We accepted the offer of dessert and were presented with a platter of freshly sliced fruit and another plate with some Turkish pastries on it (Baklava) - completely on the house!
The drawbacks with Lalehzar are the service, which can be slow - DO NOT go here if you are in a hurry and the fact that they do not serve or allow you to bring alcohol into the restaurant (apparently they have had bad experiences with rowdy diners). Still, these drawbacks aside, I thoroughly recommend this lovely restaurant to anyone and hope that it will stay around for a very long time! read more
