This is a very good Indian restaurant.
There was a friendly welcome, even though (at 6.30) they were already getting busy. The waiter escorted us to the table and did the chair thing. There're good linen tablecloths on the table and nicely folded napkins, but the traditional candle had been replaced with a naff LED jobbie. And there's Cobra on tap (though at £4.10 a pint, it was half the price of a main), which found it's way to the table promptly, with a couple of poppadoms (with 4 accompaniments).
The menu is extensive, and included my favourite: Chicken Lababdah. Whilst there was lots of chicken in big chunks, I thought the sauce wasn't quite the lababdah I was hoping for. We also had a sag paneer, which was very salty, and the paneer was in tiny pieces.
It seems like a very popular place, even though it is out of Cambridge. The restaurant is quite spacious, but somehow it still felt quite cramped.
Oh, and their website http://www.lalbaghrestaurant.com/index.php is hilarious (must be read out loud with a strong Indian accent though for full effect). read more
