I was there for 7 and a half hours and ordered a CT with no additional treatment. He referred me to the Iowa Clinic ENT and never sent the referral so I had to calll for follow up. Even though it wore off before pushing, everything went smoothly and went very well, I couldn't have asked for better people! We had the option to leave the day of, but we were so comfortable we stayed an extra day, and thank goodness we did because they gave us so much useful information we didn't even think to ask. Staff member Leslie initially tried to push us away, even after I explained that returning to the original surgical clinic was a clear conflict of interest due to their poor, unprepared work. She then vaguely stated they would "try to fit him in" and hung up the phone with no confirmation, leaving us with zero plan for a minor child in acute distress. Denying clear emergency triage and dismissively hanging up on a parent of a pediatric Medicaid patient is egregious.

Was a little hesitant but was pleasantly surprised at the changes. My husband had to have surgery and his surgeon was only available to operate at Mercy today. We were required to check in at 7am. The registration staff was friendly. They confirmed the insurance immediately (dual coverage and this tends to cause some Doctors billing issues) but doesn't appear we should have problems. From registration we were escorted to preop. The preop area was large and very private! The staff was amazing and very organized. We had a preop nurse, prep nurse, seen the anesthesiologist, anesthesiologist assistant, surgeon and lastly the operating nurse. We were told surgery was scheduled for 9am but they would probably get him in sooner. At 8:30, I was taken to the locker area to lock up my husbands belongings. Once again chatted with the surgeon and operating nurse. I went to the waiting room were I was greeted by two receptionist who advised they would be provided updates through out the surgery which they would pass along to me. They obtained a cell phone # from me incase I decided to leave the area. I did visit the gift shop and starbucks while waiting. Everyone I encountered was so pleasant. The facility was very clean, vibrant and quiet. As the receptionist promised I was given the exact time the surgery started. I was informed midway thur he was doing well. Then was advised when he was taken to stage 1 recovery. I was told her to expect the Dr to come out. Sure enough he arrived as promised. I was given updates and instructions. About 40 mins later a recovery nurse came and got me. So I could visit with my husband in recovery 2 while he fully woke up. I happen to mention I was craving a Pepsi bad. The nurse soon brought me one. Said their machines only sold Coke but all the nursing floors had Pepsi on fountain. Will no longer snub my nose at the thought of using Mercy!

Nurse Lydia acted far outside her role and authority, inserting herself into matters that were not hers to manage and attempting to interfere with decisions involving my patient by going directly to my supervisor. This behavior was inappropriate, unethical, and demonstrated a serious lack of professional judgment. she should be fired and never be able to work in this building again.

A week later we decided to take him into the ER, and it turned out to be Appendicitis-surgery immediately. Again, I understand that Urgent Care centers have limitations on their abilities. However, a transparent suggestion to seek further medical advice instead of feeding him antibiotics would have been a smart and transparent next step. Very upsetting.

Both tests revealed I had sleep apnea. Iowa Clinic ordered me to do an in lab sleep study. Would not fill CPAP rx without it. My primary did not support need for in-lab. After pre-authorization I was told my out of pocket would be $156. I attempted the study but could not sleep. Subsequently insurance denied claim, reason was the study was not necessary. Stating an automatic machine could have been used. Iowa Clinic then filled the rx for the CPAP. I received a bill from Iowa Clinic for the failed sleep study for $2100.00. I tried to get an answer from IC as to why the sleep study was necessary and why a failed study would cost $2100.00. The only answer I received was they did everything they could with the insurance co. and I owed the money. I appealed the denial and it upheld it was unnecessary. I requested a third party review through the state and again, ruled unnecessary. I will never step foot in an Iowa Clinic again. I have changed to a different provider to monitor my sleep apnea.

Got comfy in the waiting room. Nurses all very kind. Could hear joking and good comradery outside our area. We were in this room from about 12:50 til almost 3:30 waiting our turn in line for surgery. Since I was not the one waiting for the surgery, I would have liked to known it was that long of a wait to go get some food or something. However, I was there for support. The room was clean, everywhere we were escorted was clean. All the staff was nice. We had maybe 3 different nurses. Plus, the anesthesiologist, plus the surgeon all stop by before the procedure. They were running a little behind, but that wasn't told to us til almost 30 past the scheduled operation time. I can understand. Lots going on, lots of moving parts, just tiring and stressful. We got in almost an hour past the scheduled time. Finally, it was off to surgery. I was given excellent instructions on where to wait. As I stepped out into the waiting room, a sigh of relief that there was a coffee shop. They had snacks and yummy drinks and I was staving. I got checked into the waiting area, and was given a number so i could be updated as the surgery went on. They also had free tea, coffee, water in the waiting area. TVs and lots of room for families to be together. The nurse liaison was great. He talked to me multiple times. Was up and down from his desk lots and was in and out of the area so he could come pass along information. After the surgery I was taken back. The nurses again were friendly and kind. Helped us get ready. I ran out to get the vehicle and got a little lost trying to get all the way in the back of the parkinglot, but soon made it up front for pickup. Still healing, but overall it was an okay experience.

It is encouraging that there are human beings in this world that understand their job is to work with people during one of the most trying times and have complete compassion and understanding for that. Dr. Jawa and his staff are no exception. When appropriate he would talk to her person to person, not always just doctor to patient. We really appreciated that. Her diagnose and treatments brought my mom (and myself) in contact with many different doctors and healthcare professionals. We always felt heard and found that so many of them would take ample amount of time to answer any questions. I know some days were extremely tough for my mom but I personally witnessed true professionalism with a perfect amount of humanization. In addition, medically I feel like they have taken great care of my mom and her cancer is now gone! We can't thank John Stoddard enough.
