As a student at UQ i like to live my daily life free of oppression and rude prejudice, as a result of this i will be avoiding this morally insidious establishment that I would consider is a stain on humanities existence. After being a regular customer and having nothing but good coffee and great times here I was exposed to a fiery injustice that was fueled by a capitalistic money grabbing elitist who showed class discrimination and prejudice to the average working student. I remember it was a crisp, late-August Friday morning, a slight breeze came across the lake as I rounded the corner to view what i thought was going to be a nice second coffee of the day and a touch of lunch with some friends. Having previously visited this cafe earlier in the morning and at least 3-4 times a week for the past month (every Friday), I was completely blind-sighted and unaware of what events were about to unfold.
After ordering a coffee and my friends both ordering coffee and toast, we were escorted to one of the vast array of free tables by a pleasant waiter. Once being seated the harassment began, one of the other waiters came up to us and aggressively told us we were not allowed to sit at the table, we assured him we had just been sat down and he apologized and left us alone. After this event the tyrannical manager who, for future identification, was the middle aged Asian man, came over leaving his job at the till and told us quite rudely and aggressively that we had not ordered enough food to warrant a table. Over the course of the day i had spent over 20 dollars and my friends who had just ordered raisin toast, were told that they had not ordered enough food.
I would like to share this with everyone as this cafe which i used to consider my favorite cafe at uni has done irreversible damage to their reputation not only in my eyes but in the eyes of all who witnessed this unholy injustice. They say the victor writes history, when they write the history books i want them to tell my story. Do not let time forget me, carpe diem lakeside cafe for your days are numbered. read more
