I spent a lot of time here before and after shoulder surgery. Getting injured is no fun. And investing so much time into physical therapy also shouldn't be too fun. But working with Julia at Lakeshore really was a great experience (outside of the whole shoulder-surgery aspect.) I credit her with not only helping my shoulder recover from surgery, but also with preventing my other shoulder from needing surgery. Her care and attention far exceeded my expectations. First, the best thing about this place compared to Athletico is that you work with a therapist individually for your entire session. I went to Athletico a few years ago following knee surgery. Most of my time was spent alone, with a therapist essentially overseeing my independent work along with that of several other patients at the same time. My 40 minute session included 10 minutes of solo warmup and 10 minutes of solo icing, leaving 20 minutes in the middle that were still shared with other patients. At Lakeshore I worked with Julia, who has plenty of experience with my specific type of injury. We worked one-on-one for the entirety of every single session. She was always prepared - making individualized workouts not only based on my injury and current progress, but based on my fitness level and future future fitness goals. I felt appropriately challenged each day while Julia provided fantastic instruction. I even would get excellent anatomy lessons! Julia explained the reason behind doing what we did, and made sure that my questions were always answered. I walked away with a much healthier and stronger shoulder and as a more knowledgeable athlete. I have a ton of exercises in my toolbelt. In fact, when my time was done, my repaired shoulder was even a bit stronger than my non-injured shoulder. And she's just a super nice person and fun to hang with! The facility is clean and contains pretty much all the equipment you'd need, including a full gym and pool. Since this is inside an entire club, the other facilities are there when needed. Lauren at the front desk is super friendly and accommodating. I've worked with a few other therapists there as well, and all were knowledgeable, prepared and extremely friendly. Sally Fansler has been my therapist for over 7 years. Prior to finding Sally, I had worked with perhaps four different physical therapists and physiatrists who had tried to relieve my lower back pain and adjust my uneven hip/leg length...Many methods of exercise and treatment were tried, but to no avail. I even tried chiropractic, which only helped for a day or so, and then it was SOS. I call Sally my MAGIC WOMAN. She is simply The Best. I had the first of my two hip replacements in my early 50's, (they were done 3 months apart). The surgeon told me, post surgery, that my unevenness was not a problem of leg length irregularity, but of muscular weakness, and that a good PT would help me. That's when I found Sally, and did she EVER help me! We started working after the first surgery and continued after the second surgery. Four months later, I was walking all over Italy. Sally is the ONLY therapist who was able to put me back in alignment and explain why I go out so easily. She gave me ways to put myself back and exercises to stabilize the area in an effort to stay in alignment, even when my course of PT is over. I have returned to her whenever the situation gets out of hand for me, and she puts me back into shape. Recently, I have seen April and Amy, who are both very good as well. I had a very peculiar pull in my thigh/groin area that was making it almost impossible to walk...sprang up out of nowhere. April immediately fixed that, and it's never returned. Amy and April both achieve great results, even when using slightly different methods. And they All have very warm, outgoing personalities, while still conducting themselves very professionally. The first and most fundamental question to be answered in reviewing any physical therapy service has to be: did the therapy bring the patient back to health efficiently, effectively, and pleasantly? I'm in my 80s, and over a period of some four years I came to Lakeshore PT with a varied list of problems unsurprising for my age and my habit of vigorous daily exercise; the problems ranged from backache and vertigo, through hip pain and a frozen shoulder, to a sore hamstring and balance. Each and every time I worked with Julia, Kevin, or Hannah, they resolved my issues with professionalism, compassion, and efficiency. Since my last consultation with Hannah a few months ago, I've been exercising vigorously, alternating with a rowing machine, a spinner bicycle, weights, and a treadmill, while working in between the New York Times series of intensive interval exercises and jogging a few times a week. I've been feeling absolutely great, and I'm reassured that it will continue because Julia, Kevin, and Hannah provided me with instructions on a series of PT exercises that I can use to address any issue that starts to pop up. Bottom line: Lakeshore PT is top notch. By the way, although my review focuses on results as the primary consideration, rest assured that in other regards, Lakeshore PT means quality, for example its highly pleasant and efficient administrative staff and its crisp, clean facilities. read more

This is my second rehab visit to Lakeshore for physical therapy. This is an excellent place to come for therapy. This time, I had Stephanie K.,who is an awesome therapist and who did an outstanding of helping recover from a shoulder condition. When I first saw Stephanie, I could not move my right shoulder nor raise my right arm. Stephanie consulted with Katie about my condition, I cried many days because of the pain, But, through her tailored programs that included home exercises, I recovered and the pain decreased. It took six months intensive of stretching and strengthening but, I regained my range of motion. I still do the home exercises. Stephanie truly cared about me as a patient and answered all of my questions. She communicated with my doctors and sent progress reports. She called and spoke directly with my primary care doctor, when it was advised to terminate the therapy. She looked in my chart and recommended other exercises to strengthen my lower back muscles. Thank you Lauren, for scheduling my appointments and for making adjustments when necessary. Thanks also for informing me of the anticipated patient share of the billing process. Lakeshore is excellent place to go for physical therapy. You will recover from your medical conditions. If I need physical therapy again, I will come back again. read more

I started going to Lakeshore PT about 5 months ago after tearing my meniscus and I could not be more pleased with the results. The care I received at Lakeshore PT has been vital to my recovery and I highly recommend it to anyone. I had done extensive research on different places and chose Lakeshore PT for it's one on one sessions, accommodating appointment times, and affordability within my budget (since my particular insurance plan did not cover it-Lakeshore PT works with/accepts most providers). The location is extremely convenient for public transportation and offers parking. As an added bonus, you are able to use the Lakeshore Sport and Fitness center on the days of your appointments. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and willingly to answer any question or concern you might have throughout your rehab and they do an excellent job at making you feel comfortable while challenging you to get better. They are also extremely good-natured and fun and make the 45 minutes fly by. Setting up appointments was also extremely easy and they seemed to genuinely care about making time for me and working within my schedule. Overall my experience was incredibly positive and even after my discharge, I know I can contact them with any questions or should any future injuries occur. read more

I have (actually had) arthritis in both knees and had 2 scopes in each before both were replaced - thus the arthritis being past tense. I had physical therapy after all 4 scopes and my first replacement; in each case I did not get the aggressive and individualized therapy that I received at Lakeshore Physical Therapy. At all the other places the therapist would spend 15 minutes with me and/or leave me to do exercises on my own or with an assistant. I always felt like I was not important or cheated a bit because I expected more time and encouragement from the therapist assigned to me. But in each case with each therapist I was just one of the many that they had to see each day. However, at Lakeshore my therapist, April Meyer gave me her undivided attention during each 45 minute session. As I regained movement the exercises changed accordingly and I never felt that she wasn't totally invested in me my recuperation and progress during each session for the entire 10 weeks. April made me feel comfortable starting at the first session her professionalism was as important as her warm and friendly demeanor. I cannot recommend Lakeshore Physical Therapy enough to any one needing aggressive and individualized physical therapy in a friendly and caring atmosphere. read more

Highly recommend! After experiencing a mysterious, piercing pain in my shoulder for months (and coming to terms with the fact that it wasn't going to just go away) paired with an unproductive visit with a GP, I set up a Telehealth appointment with Lakeshore Physical Therapy. I am so glad I did! I had just a few visits with Dr. Glick online, who was able to correctly diagnose the issue and set up a regimen of simple exercises that fixed the issue in a matter of weeks. I could do the appointments and exercises at home and avoid going into public during COVID. Dr. Glick examined my shoulder/back over video chat after giving me a few movement prompts to see how my muscles were moving - she took the time to ask me specific questions, was patient with my many questions, and I didn't feel rushed through the appointments. She was very personable, professional and committed to my recovery. I'd say she preformed what felt like a miracle, but really she demystified the issue for me and provided me the tools to prevent it from happening again. Very valuable for long-term wellness! When it was time to begin PT after knee surgery, the doctor recommended a couple places- all of them requiring a drive, parking and extra time. I have seen the signs for LPT as a member of LSF and decided to check it out. Glad I did because I could not be happier with my experience at and the entire Lakeshore Physical Therapy team. Lauren is fantastic and addressed all questions and concerns. She was great managing appointments (and changes), paperwork and billing for insurance. The Therapists (Stephanie was mine) are caring professionals and I felt they were completely committed to my recovery. They took time to explain the what and the why of the exercises, and pushed me just enough when I needed it most to get back to full recovery. I had PT at other places where I did my exercises mostly on my own and the Therapists would just check in you. Not the case at LPT where it's one to one and you are their only patient during the session. I hope to never need PT again but if I do, LPT is definitely where I'd go. read more

I was in such tremendous pain back in August that I called and had my initial PT appointment moved up for an assessment. The Lakeshore Physical Therapy team addressed my concern and moved me up right away. They have accomodating hours for those that work during the day, and always have availability. They were recommended to me by Liz, a wonderful Senior Personal Trainer that I'm working with currently. I didn't even know that Lakeshore had a physical therapy department! Stephanie was my wonderful, patient, informative, and kind physical therapist! We set goals in therapy, and reviewed them routinely. I understood the exercises and she recommeneded a great and easy book for me to read about pain. I truly got my life back because of Stephanie's help and I'm enrolled in a fitness program there. I just wrapped up 8 weeks of physical therapy with Stephanie at Lakeshore after I had knee replacement surgery (one knee). She really helped me thru a difficult experience and recovery (as a former dancer, I had been in great shape prior to the surgery and was thrown by how incapacitated I was). She assessed me well, pushed me just enough, and didn't let me "overdo" it, which I am wont to do. I've heard horror stories from other people in PT who don't get the focus or the attention they were hoping for. Not the case at Lakeshore. I always knew Stephanie was crafting my PT for ME and for what I needed at the moment and I had her undivided attention. When I look back at those 8 weeks, I realize how much progress she helped me make and I feel confident as I take all her exercises to the next level. I came to Sally at Lakeshore PT after a long and frustrating with another Physical Therapy service in Chicago. Despite spending a lot of time at their clinic and also trying to do my many exercises at home, my right knee did not feel better. Sally, upon completing her initial exam and hearing about my previous PT history, focused on my knee, discovered a former trauma that was not recognized before, simplified my PT exercises to a targeted and shorter routine that was realistic. I could do them at home every day. Besides the manual treatment, Sally was also personally available to show and help me do exercises at the clinic, revise my routine following her observations. Lauren, the exceptional office manager, was very helpful with scheduling and insurance issues. She was always positive and patient. I gladly graduated from Lakeshore PT, something that I had started thinking was not possible. My right knee has no more scar tissue and I can play tennis pain free. read more

Not long after I arrived in the US from the UK, I injured my back running (the stunning Chicago shores inspired a sudden surge in exercise and my core strength just wasn't up to it!). I picked Lakeshore Physical Therapy purely because it was closest to home, but it was a lucky accident because I can't rate the service and PT's there highly enough. Meredith Franczyk was sympathetic to my frustration at the exercises necessary to get my back sorted, but motivated me to work the right areas to prevent my back problems deteriorating or recurring. Each session is 45 minutes one-to-one, and you work with the same person each week, so you establish a great relationship with your PT. Meredith has an excellent sense of humour and time flew by each session. I was also new to Chicago, and appreciated Meredith's tips for great places to eat or explore in Chicago. All in all, a professional, yet friendly service that I would recommend highly. read more

Sally Fansler was recommended by my doctor before hip replacement surgery. Coincidentally, Lakeshore Physical Therapy is located in my gym. I'd passed it while going to classes and my initial reaction in glancing through the door was it was small with not a lot of equipment. It's a good thing I followed my doctor's recommendation and not my first impressions! I worked with Sally prior to hip surgery and Katie after. Sally and her team are great! I've gone to PT at other "name" rehab places and felt I got more personal attention and exacting, comprehensive treatment at Lakeshore. All of my movements were monitored for correctness, and the PT program was altered based on what I was having difficulty with. I was given a home exercise program prior to surgery, and believe the strengthening it provided helped facilitate my recovery after surgery. If I every need PT again, Lakeshore will be the only place I consider. read more

I know several people that have worked with Lakeshore Physical Therapy and they strongly recommended that I give them a try. In the time of the pandemic I was heartened to learn that Lakeshore PT offered TeleMedicine visits. My complaint was that I felt pain in my left hip every time I walked or exercised. My therapist, Julia, was a very good listener and quite attentive. She did a full evaluation and put me at ease that I did not need hip surgery. Julia offered me a series of what seemed to me to be a combination of breathing and stretching to correct my hip rotation. Julia followed up every visit with notes and diagrams how to do my exercises. We met weekly. In about a month's time the pain in my hip was gone and the source of the problem was significantly improved. I recommend Lakeshore Physical Therapy. Their therapists are patient and caring and best of all achieve excellent outcomes. read more

In reviewing last year, I am grateful for the physical therapy I received from Lakeshore Physical Therapy in 2020. I began the year with foot surgery, in January. Thanks to Sally, I was able to regain dexterity in my toes and the ability to walk correctly, (instead of favoring one foot). I am still using several exercises to stretch tendons and increase the flexibility of both feet. As if that was not enough, I managed to re-injure a shoulder injury (rotator cuff issues) in August 2020. I got a chance to work with Meg who knew how to manipulate my body to relieve the pain. My shoulder always felt better after our sessions. More importantly, Meg provided written instructions on exercise routines to strengthen my shoulders and provided lots of feedback on my technique. This review is a little late, but it may help someone else find a group of professionals who really know what they are doing. read more

This is medicine the way it should be. You have a problem, it gets diagnosed and treated. You leave feeling stronger and with a better understanding of how your body works than when you started. I've been a client of Lakeshore and its previous incarnations for almost 15 years, through joint replacements, back surgery and shoulder strains. You can be sure that any therapist good enough to be hired by Sally, the owner, is going to be the best. The entire staff holds itself to the highest standards of patient care and office administration. This isn't big box therapy. I've been there and felt like I was incidental to their main concern of generating income. Most recently at Lakeshore, Kelly provided hands-on treatment to loosen my muscles and taught me exercises to strengthen them. She is intuitive, understanding and encouraging and she's not the exception, she's the rule. read more

In April 2021, I experienced my first (and hopefully last) bout of sciatica. Not knowing what to do, I found Julia Glick, Physical Therapist and she outlined some key first steps in a video-phone consultation. The main thing was to speak with an MD and get a steroid pack. Once I was able to actually move, she suggested physical therapy (never pushing to see her specifically). I was seen by Julia, who is very knowledgable and passionate about anatomy and biomechanics. After a complete in-person evaluation, we worked on specific stretches and movements to help improve muscle condition and imbalances, which most likely caused the sciatica. With clear instruction, homework and personal check-ins, I was able to get back to normal in about 2 months. I'm honestly not sure what I would have done without Julia's professional help and guidance. I would highly recommend Julia. read more

I used Lakeshore Physical Therapy in Lincoln Park for rehabilitation following operations on my knee and shoulder. I was at the facility three to four times a week for nearly seven months. I could not have been more pleased with the results of my rehab. Amy Goldstein (PT, DPT) was truly vested in the progress we made on a daily basis. Amy impressed me with her knowledge and desire to stay on the forefront of modern physical therapy practices. At no point was I assigned to a technician or assistant, rather, spent my entire time with the credentialed Physical Therapists at Lakeshore. I am pain free, I have perfect range of motion, and I am back to the physical activities I enjoy. With the proper time and attention my knee and shoulder are both 100%. As we get older, and our body parts break down, I have found it essential to have a good physical therapist. Luckily for me, I have found that in Sally at Lakeshore Physical Therapy. Over the years she has helped me through tennis elbow, two knee replacements, and a frozen shoulder, all with great results. On the rare occasion that Sally wasn't available, I've found her associates to be equally knowledgeable and helpful in aiding me through my rehabilitation. The Fullerton location couldn't be more convenient, on the 2nd floor of Lakeshore Sports & Fitness, with ample parking outside, and any equipment you might need to warm up before your appointment.
