I am sad to be writing this review about my daughter's experience with Dr. Yuzon. I became a patient of Dr. Yuzon this summer and my experience was fine, so I convinced my daughter to make an appointment. She is a 21 year old senior in college. She has tattoos, piercings, and self-harm scars, so she does not look "mainstream" like me. At my urging, my daughter finally overcame her anxiety and went to Dr. Yuzon hoping to start on the path of self-care and better health. Instead of finding a compassionate doctor ready to work with her, my daughter was ridiculed and dismissed by Dr. Yuzon. When Dr. Yuzon first came into the exam room, she did not introduce herself or greet my daughter--instead she commented negatively about my daughter's tattoos.Then when Dr. Yuzon saw her self-harm scars, she exclaimed "Why would you do that? That's horrible." My daughter told her she had gone through some hard times, but she was interrupted by Dr. Yuzon telling her that she had another patient who did that, but she told my daughter she "won" because her self-harming scars were even worse. When my daughter tried to tell her about hormonal symptoms she was having Dr. Yuzon told her hormones are always normal at her age. She told her "You're fine; you're just 21." (Her blood work shows how wrong Dr. Yuzon was about this, by the way.) I have been urging my daughter to be brave, to stand up, and tell a doctor how she is feeling instead of living with pain and discomfort. Finally my daughter did and Dr. Yuzon dismissed her. The appointment ended with Dr. Yuzon telling my daughter, in a disgusted tone, "Don't get diseases. Do I need to have you tested for disease? (STIs)" And then saying she was prescribing her birth-control pills. Dr. Yuzon would not answer my daughter's questions about what kind or what she should expect in terms of how it would help or possible side-effects. Instead, Dr. Yuzon grilled her about whether or not she could actually be responsible enough to take the pill. (My daughter is an honors student with a double major who has a full-ride scholarship and works to support herself--prejudgement about her ability (or inability) to be responsible was not compassionate.)
It is hard for me to understand how a doctor, nowadays especially, really does not care for the health and well-being of a young adult who clearly has faced mental health difficulties and other medical issues. We can only infer from the treatment my daughter received that Dr. Yuzon does not care about my daughter's well-being and does not have compassion for her. The part that is so sad and breaks my heart, is this young lady, my daughter, needed that compassion. read more
