I have a very severe case of anxiety when it comes to the dentist - this was only made worse when another dentist in town joked about me dying because I "wasn't brushing the back of my teeth well enough." (I have a heart murmur and in years past medical research theorized bacteria from the mouth could cause murmur patients to develop endocarditis and could lead to a heart attack). That being said, I waited for 3 years to see another one and have my teeth cleaned. I made the appointment originally because they were covered by my insurance and could see me within a week for a cut in my gums that wasn't healing. On the day of my appointment I arrived and was already so anxious I could barely breathe. Unfortunately the computer somehow deleted my appointment but they got me in at the scheduled time anyway. Upon meeting Dr. Joo I explained my whole dental journey and expressed how embarrassed I was for not having been to a dentist for several years. Never once was he rude or judgmental - in fact he was so sweet and encouraging and supportive. The whole cleaning and minor cavity filling took less than an hour and a half and was so affordable compared to that other dentist whose name shall not be mentioned. In fact, this is the first time in my adult life I somewhat enjoyed my visit. Even more so than the attractive dentist I had in my 20s that I tried to date. (Kidding. Kind of.) I even referred a friend of mine while I was sitting in the chair, face numb, getting my teeth impressioned for a mouth guard. been going there for several years, I love how they can get everything done in the same day so I don't have to take more days off of work. the lady who does X-rays is very courteous and professional, it can feel a little weird to bite down the metal thing but she gets good pictures of my teeth. I had my wisdom tooth extracted here, I have severe fear of needles but the dentist took good care of me. Also, the dentist who did my root canal is the kindest and most empathetic dentist I have ever met, with my fear of needles I know I'm not the easiest patient to deal with but Lake Stevens Modern Dentistry made seeing dentists tolerable. They are opened late on Tuesday which is great for me! The staff is friendly and very accommodating to your schedule needs. They are experienced techs and hygienist. They explain the procedure before hand and during. Afterwards the make sure you understand the after care and make a follow up appointment to make sure everything is healing properly. So I was in need to severe dental care due to my health issues and my fear of dentist. Things were explained but very expensive to pay out of pocket. Due to my health condition, I needed to be fully sedated. My insurance plan was for $4000 a year. And had to pay additional $4000 to get surgery. And now all my dental insurance is used up for this year and I had dental extractions and top denture only. Once surgery was over, there was no follow through of how I was or if there was any problems. Four weeks later I come in to get refitted for my top denture and which point my denture specialist isn't available to offer any help other than trim down my denture. As I explain I have a severe gag reflux and no option was suggested or offered. Almost seamed to be a little irritated with me the whole visit. Don't get me wrong great customer service at front desk and awesome service from dental techs. Follow up afterwards needs to be improved drastically. This is my first experience with dentures and nothing was explained on what to expect. Now I just find out from a friend that there's options to do to get my denture to fit and work for me. So surprised that nothing was offered or suggested during my denture fitting. If it wasn't for the good customer care from the front desk and dental techs this rating would be 1 star. read more

Too busy to focus on patients. I've been going here for a couple years and each time all the staff seem incredibly rushed and inattentive. Recently I received a call from Lake Stevens Modern Dentistry advising that I was overdue for a 6 month cleaning, and that they had several openings, so I scheduled an an appointment. After arriving and checking in online... I was led back to a patient room, put in the dentist chair, and no one ever returned... I sat in the room for 45 minutes with zero attention. New Kids On The Block. They maybe the new kids on the blocks but they made an impressive impression on me (see what I did there?) I'm easily satisfied but hard to impress because I'm accustomed to "you get what get, don't pitch a fit". From the moment I walked in to when I walked out, I was welcomed and taken of. First appointment was of course data intake. They don't know me, as much as I don't know them. Dr Sharma and I briefly discussed housekeeping items before setting foot into an exam room (I liked that) X-rays of the teeth were needed - again, first visit. After a brief assessment, the good doctor physically examined my teeth to confirm her suspicions. I agreed with her assessment as it's been the party line since my mid-20's. Her recommendations were on-point as they lined up with mine. As a first time patient, they gifted me a dental SWAG bag! Picture below - oh, sweet. I went here for the oral surgeon to get one wisdom tooth removed. The front desk staff were extremely rude and not helpful. The oral surgeon was an absolute nightmare to put it in the nicest way possible. He told me false information and scared me to death, he was also very inconsiderate and did not want to answer my questions other than to try to convince me to spend more money. As a person who has struggled with many medical complications it takes a lot of shake me and I left this appointment an absolute trainwreck. I have actively avoided dentists and oral surgeons since although I still need more work done. I would recommend getting a tooth extracted in your garage before coming here. read more

1) They were the only place that could take me last minute on a Friday with a broken tooth. They did a permanent crown in house same day from a 3D printer and let me tell you, its a really crappy crown. This permanent crown feels rough like a temporary crown. It's also way off color so it's noticeably a crown. And it has left my tooth feeling way more sensitive than any other crown I've had. 2) the crappy SINGLE crown cost me more out of pocket than my other, high quality crown with a bridge which covers 3 teeth. 3) front desk lady with dark brown hair (Wendy?), she's the one who works out the payment options with you. she's impatient and unkind. When I expressed anxiety and needed a minute to think she had impatient huffs and eye rolls. I also shared a bad experience I had when I was kid at dentist and she shrugged and shook her head. She does not give a crap what you're going through, just making the sale. Made me put my credit card down before they even started working on me. I've never had to deal with such a snarky front person before. 4) most uncomfortable, cheap-o dentist chairs I've ever sat in. And when you're in the chair for 2 hours with crown work and walk away with more than just mouth pain, your back, hips, neck. This wasn't my first poor experience at this location , but last time was forgiven. This time a big nope. I'm not even going to deal with this place again, I don't care if it costs me 800 more dollars to go to a different dentist and have a better quality crown put in. I am new to Lake Stevens and had a bad tooth ache. Called LSMD and was seen same day and given antibiotics. Next week pain returned and called LSMD was seen same day and they arranged for a scan, meeting with endodonist , determine tooth was cracked, pulled tooth and set up a plan for replacement the same day. They far exceeded my expectations. I will recommend them anytime. read more

I went in for a deep cleaning and with concern as it can be very painful but Dr. Joo was the most caring, gentle and profesional, he is a perfectionist. He ask many times how I was feeling and monitor my level of discomfort. I couldn't believe that I didn't feel any pain even a day after. Absolute nightmare. I was looking for a new dentist and this one happened to be close to home. I initially went there with a complaint of a small gap and discoloration of my front tooth. The Dr suggested an unnecessary crown. Without thinking twice, I agreed as they are the professionals. I knew half way through I had made a mistake but it was too late to stop the Dr. She had drilled my tooth so far down, I knew something was wrong. I left 4 hours later in tears and absolutely mortified. The crown was placed, and it looks misplaced and does not match my other front tooth. I went there today in hopes of a solution, and was told they would redo the crown. However, I would run the risk of my tooth collapsing because my tooth was ground down too far. Their solution was to refund what I paid out of pocket for the procedure $320 something dollars, or get an Invisalign that would run me $5000 and they would credit me $1000 towards it. I shouldn't be paying anything to correct your mistake. The office manager Amy Balich was absolutely condescending and advised me Dr Joo just started doing Invisalign and that I should go elsewhere. She didn't want them messing up my teeth anymore than they already have. I am thinking more so to get rid of me and not deal with the irreparable and permanent damage that was done to my front tooth. Bad experience turned out ok. My husband went in for an emergency check up and the dentist he saw was really unprofessional. However, when Dr Joo found out what happened (which I won't go into great detail about) he was incredibly apologetic and worked on my husband himself. He did an incredible, impeccable job. I give three stars only because of the first experience (which was more of a 1 star situation) and having to go through the headache that we did, but Dr Joo gets five stars personally. He really cares about his practice and patience. I also have to give a big shout out to the front desk lady Diana. She was really friendly and professional. She kind of talked me off of a ledge. I was upset, but not angry. But she was kind, she even got me to laugh. She understood our frustration as a patient herself. I have always disliked going to the Dentist. My first visit Dr. Sharma sat with me in her office and asked me what I wanted/ my goals were for my teeth. I told her I wanted a beautiful smile. She said we can do that. She is so nice and focused on your needs. Working with her and her team is a joy. I finally believe I've found a dental team that will get me to the point that I can be proud of my smile. I would give 5 stars for the dentist that provided me services but I would leave negative 10 starts for the billing and the front desk billing specialist (Wendy). Wendy claims to be a specialist but loaded the wrong insurance for me and over charged me out of network charges even though I told her time and and again that they were in network. She didn't seem to understand billing in regards to group NPI vs provider NPI and how the contract is provider based. She was insistent that she was right and got annoyed and made it feel like i was an idiot. However, I agreed to pay because I needed work done and already had anxiety through the roof with the entire process. The EOB came back showing I was over charged by double the amount They are so quick to take your money..but when they owe you, it's been over 6 months now and no refund. Absolute worst dental practice. Office staff focuses on one thing and one thing only. GET THE MONEY. The dentists are adequate but the business practices are deceptive and totally misleading. Do not go here. I needed an implant done. The dentist told me that the dead tooth would be extracted, bone graft inserted, a crown would be implanted and a final crown tooth attached. Then the closer came in with her used car approach telling all the assorted fees and charges. About three pages worth and that normal fee would add up to around $8000.00. But their submission to insurance would be around $6000.00 and insurance would only pay roughly $5000.00 but since i was paying cash my price today only was just about $4000.00. After several months and several visits I finally have the implant base done and I am ready for my tooth. I am now told that the tooth is extra. $2000.00 extra. I was setup and screwed over by this deceptive business practice. My choice now is to pony up an additional $2000.00 or leave a gaping hole in the front of my smile. read more

I would not recommend this Dentistry. First there is not a full time hygienist so they expect you to only come on Wednesday when it works for them. The people are nice, but how often does your DR call in because here it may happen to you several times. I have only been a patient a little over a month and our of 2 appointments for cleaning my DR called in sick and noone else can cover? I met with Dr. J and his lovely employees. Everybody was very welcoming. Everybody was great at making me feel like I would not be overwhelmed at my situation. Which is not a good one. I need extensive work. So for my first time visit I got all of the x-rays in one room with technician Ashley. Then she took me to another room where I met Dr. J. He came in, said hi then he updated my info to coincide with my photos. We then talked about what needs to be done and where i want them to start. Then the manager Chelsea came in to talk about how I wanted to proceed. I decided on a basic cleaning and to schedule an appointment for the next steps of dental improvement. Ashley came back in and started the cleaning process. Then Dr. J proceeded with cleaning. Ashley finished with fluoride. Very pleased. It's gonna be a long road with my improvements, I'm eager to see how Dr. J does. Also they did not make me wait too long in between tasks- most about 5 minutes. Also the music was on point for me- easy listening 80s-ish vibes at a nice volume. Heads up it's a bit cold in there, they did offer a blanket but I did not take it. Thanks gang! read more

It took me 40 years to find a truly great dental office and staff, but I've finally found it in Lake Stevens Modern Dentistry. The ladies at the front desk are so friendly and knowledgeable, explaining everything to me before I even had to ask. Ashley the hygienist immediately put me at ease and soon had me talking and laughing. I usually gag during bite wings, but she did it so well, I didn't gag once. Dr. Sharma is everything I look for in a dentist: kind, gentle, highly intelligent, and personable, but above all, highly qualified. I could tell that she really, truly cares about her patients, and she's not afraid to be herself. They have all the newest dental technology but you don't pay for it in higher prices. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful when making my appointment for my five year old and myself. I was a bit nervous for my son to have x-rays done because he was afraid last time another office had attempted. The technicians were very patient and made him feel comfortable with the procedure. He even said, "it was not scary at all." I was very impressed with Dr. Chen. He is very clear when explaining what he is doing and had a very calm demeanor.
