If you have stayed next door in the lakeside apartments you will be disappointed in the quality, but hey it's half the price! The only drawback for me was the lower quality build means there is some traffic noise from the road out front. Wanaka has become a super busy tourist destination over the past decade, which has unfortunately brings crowds of people. Overall The Moorings is a decent value for money place to stay. But if your not so worried about what comes out of the wallet, hit up lakeside apartments... best place in town for sure!!

She owner offered to feed us if we were not succesful, lovely gesture!! We stayed in the lodge with communal kitchen with everything you need to cook or make packed lunches. Rooms were clean and spacious with a great deck overlooking Mt Cook and a great place for star gazing at night. A nice heater in the bathroom to keep you warm on cool mornings. The bonus of having a pet dog for a couple days was awesome for our son who read to him and played, i felt comfortably safe letting him play. Would stay here again and certainly will be suggesting this as great base for Mt Cook, the drive up to the village along the lake is exquisite.

The views of Lake Hawea are fabulous and every room has pretty much the same view. The room was very comfortable, large and airy with a small deck and chairs accessible through a sliding glass door. Sue does the cooking and created vegetarian meals for us that were interesting and tasted outstanding. Mike, who has led a fascinating life and has a wealth of knowledge, did most of the guest interaction and was a joy to sit down with and have a drink and perhaps even a cigar. If you sit outside at at night and it's cloudless you'll be treated to a star show second to none. Finally, their cattle dog Roy is just a treat and loves, like most dogs, a good ear scratch. Highly recommended for a quiet, peaceful, relaxing time.

But they were hot, crunchy and fresh out of the fryer. They were actually really really good! The breakfast buffet is also large and excellent. Every breakfast item you can think of. I don't usually like buffets but this hotel did them very very well. Being stuck inside all day isn't so bad when you have all this food to choose from.

The room was pretty basic despite the high nightly fee. The staff members that I interacted with were friendly, efficient, and helpful. I was upgraded to a free breakfast when I checked in. I was not told why and didn't bother to ask. I wonder now if it had something to do with the smell. The location is perfect for the hikes I was interested in. However, I'd probably look into a different lodging option if I were to go back.

There are a couple of but I anyhow choose Aoraki Court Motel. It was the best stay so far on my holidays here. The spacious room makes you feel like coming home, the panorama is awe-inspiring from dawn till dusk and the spa in the bathroom gives you a nice relax. On top of that, the owners rocking this Motel are very friendly and are super helpful with information about groceries, hikes, food and anything else to make your stay comfortable. I cannot say anything about other acco's here, but I bet this is one of the top-choices and surely a killer value for money. Bet you'd say the same!
