I was here to visit on Open House day as my prospective student considers their higher education options for next year. In-state and reciprocity state tuition costs are a great value and even out of state tuition is worth it when you compare it to places like the University of California out of state tuition costs. In addition to being located in Minneapolis proper with downtown venues and amenities, Minnesota is home to many Fortune 500 companies (think 3M, Target, General Mills, Medtronic, United Health, etc.) and this is their prime recruiting real estate when looking for new talent. I learned that many employees from these corporations are adjunct professors and teach here so the students learn from true experts and not theoretical academicians that have never held a real job. (Have you ever heard the saying, "Those that can't do, teach"? LOL) The buildings and classrooms are modern and techno-savvy. There are great study lounges and coffee shops within easy reach. One other thing I learned about the undergrad program is that there is an international study requirement (meaning every student MUST go overseas at some point for study in order to graduate). International Requirement? Yes please. Let see, if my student chooses to go here, they will be surrounded by the latest and greatest teachers, technology, comforts AND get to go overseas? Where the hell do I sign up?!? I'd like to take their place! When I went to school, there were nuns with rulers, cinderblock buildings, chalkboards, overhead transparencies and cafeteria slop. I'm now envisioning my student reading about hedge funds while sipping espresso in Italy on my dime! For God's sake, I want to come back in another life! In all seriousness, the U of M is a stellar university and the Carlson School within it is a prized gem that MN should be very proud of.

Absolutely incredible City and well worthy of the title of the twin city of the fantastic and Multicultural Minneapolis. St. Paul is every bit as Multicultural if not more so. There's a massive Vietnamese population here, as well as a lot of other great things. Some truly wonderful food and a lovely downtown, with a shiny Capitol building, and lots of other good stuff going on.

There are some places people think are shady but I lived right in the thick of things and never worried about my safety...you do have to be smart anytime you are in a city environment but I think the people here look out for each other and it keeps things under control . There are several colleges here and a ton of little pubs and eating establishments. The food variety and quality is awesome. Most people are open minded and accepting of diversity here. Shopping is top-notch AND it is easy to get around without much traffic congestion.
