To get there, you'll need to hike a series of steep roads, steps and trails. The funicular is a fun activity to try and it takes you up to a cool spot for a few hours of exploration. Seriously, it has FUN in it's name, give it a try...FUNicolare! :) It gets crowded on busy weekends and holidays. 5 stars!

Very convenient to have and a great mode of transportation. The views you get from the boat of the lake and all of Como and it's surrounding cities is beautiful. Whether your are taking the boat to a destination or just for a ride on a Sunday afternoon it is definitely worth it. I have been countless times and Everytime is just as breath taking. The staff on board are very friendly and even allowed me to use his sailor hat for a picture. Be advised that these boats do fill up very quickly and can get quite crowded. It's be smart to get a boat pass or have your ticket in advance so you don't have to wait in line. Great great place.

We followed the schedule he outlined and has a great visit with the least hassle. The weather was unfavorable, this being November, but he had no control over that. I want to share the info for travelers visiting in fall & winter to plan a beautiful self-guided day tour at a very reasonable rate. On a rainy day with overcast gray sky we took the red M1 Milan Metro to Milano Nord Cadorna train station to catch a morning train for the 1 hour multi-stops ride to the Lago Como Station. We had contacted the very helpful and responsive Lake Como ferry website (info@navigaziionelaghi.it) prior to our trip and learned that on a November Saturday (low season) the first FAST boat to Bellagio would be at 12:25 pm and Como Lago station is only a 5-minute walk from the ferry dock at Piazza Cavour. With ample time to spare before ferry, we toured the Como Cathedral on way to the ferry ticket office right across the street from the Hotel Metropole Swiss. The ferry ride was smooth. It made several stops at towns along the way before reaching Bellagio. Due to low season, rain and closure of the main attraction, there's not much to do in town aside from strolling and relaxing at cafes. After an hour we took a boat to Varenna (this one carries both cars and passengers)15 min.away. Varenna ferry pier is at Piazza Martiri della Liberta. Again, due of rain, late afternoon timing, and uncertainty if attractions were open, we just strolled around a bit and had dinner at one of the restaurants south of the ferry pier. The pier is just 10 min walk from the Esino Lario train station where we caught a late train to Milano Centrale then transferred to a southbound yellow M3 metro, 2 stops to Milan Duomo. We're glad we came. Although the weather was gloomy the villages were quaint and peaceful. We could picture how wonderful it must be on a nice sunny day. The whole self-guided Lake Como ferry tour cost about €20 per person.

We came for lunch and sat by the water, and while we were disappointed that they didn't have pizza for lunch, we ended up with some excellent pastas -- a basically perfect edition of linguine with clams, and a paccheri with fish sauce and pistachios that was just excellent. Their prosciutto with melon was also amazing, and we really liked the bruschetta as well. Our three-year-old also loved their penne with tomato sauce. Definitely would love to come back here (especially for dinner to try the pizza) on our next trip.

The waterfront outdoor patio has a very charming atmosphere with nice decor and beautiful views. We received very friendly and quick service, and enjoyed a small breakfast of bread, butter, jam, omelette, cappuccino, and fresh juice. Simple but exactly what we needed to fuel our busy day! The interior bar area was just as nice, and while I can't personally speak to any of the accommodations I would highly recommend this location as a place to stay. It's a great midpoint between Como and Bellagio and has frequent public transportation.

Como is a pretty small city and I wouldn't mind staying a couple of days on our next trip to the area. I did see a train heading to Zurich from there as the northern area of Italy neighbors Switzerland. For a small town Como is pretty much swamped with visitors and with no airport the railway station is the main transportation hub. 4 star railway station that does the job close to the city which is very walkable.

(The bar is open 24/7!). I booked a six-bedroom dorm style for females only, and the whole dorm was clean; the beds were sturdy and beautifully painted with bright yellow color. The view from my dorm overlooked the other outdoor patio area--it would be a great spot to chill in hammocks and chairs if the weather was nice (during my stay, the weather was rainy/gloomy). Since I came during the weekend, there was an event at this hostel every night, which allowed me to interact with other groups or solo travelers from all over Europe who were also in Lake Como for a weekend getaway. I highly recommend this hostel to those looking for a hostel that is safe, clean, and fully staffed with people who genuinely love meeting new travelers and helping them when needed. We needed a place to store our bags until our AirBnB check-in, and we wanted to explore Como town unencumbered. Ostello Bello is just a short walk from the train and was easy to get to. I can really only speak to my experience in the lobby and my interactions with the staff, but the vibes upon walking in were really great - good tunes and lively atmosphere. Our bags were quickly checked in and secured, and we were on our way! It was just as easy to collect them a few hours later. The staff also went above and beyond in helping us arrange a taxi to our AirBnB. I can't say enough about how lovely and helpful they were! Although this is a hostel, you can book a private room at a very affordable rate. I would definitely recommend this place as an option for young people traveling on a budget or looking to make some new friends. It seemed like there were lots of activities for people looking to socialize. The location of the hostel is also great, close to transportation as well as a market right next door. I would definitely use the luggage storage service again and maybe next time stay for a drink at the bar!

We were on the top floor in a corner room with doors that opened on each side to wonderful views of Lake Como. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, giving us recommendations on where to eat. And the breakfast (included) was very good with very attentive staff.
