Took the Plattsburgh to Grand Isle ferry. This ferry runs 24/7 and takes 14 minutes. Loading & unloading is efficient. Staff is generally friendly, and they're working in the elements, rain, snow, or hot days. You can enjoy a few minutes of lovely lake vistas while crossing.

Took the ferry(today, 11/24) to Plattsburgh at 14:10 and then returned at 18:11 back to Vermont. By now, I am used to very little customer service but the Lake Champlain Transportation Company takes the cake. I get it, it's a non-stop operation to take people, their vehicles, and whatnot to and from NY/VT. That said, for 18 dollars each way, a thank you would go a very long ways. Both women who worked the booths were next level rude...worth driving around next time, rude. If your life is that miserable, do something else that doesn't require you to talk with and to humans!! Do better, Lake Champlain Trans!

The ferry from plattsburgh runs year round and goes back and forth often and is reliable. The ferry between port Kent and Burlington is summertime only and takes about 1.5 hour trip one way. It's very picturesque. It's a nice way to go from nys to Burlington and back for a day or night out. Hey they're not gonna build a bridge and it's a long way around to avoid the $10 ferry fee. So enjoy it.

Always great service, experience and views never disappoint. This time we took an evening ferry and it was dark and beautiful under new moon and stars. Be warned it doesn't go as often as during the day though.

This ferry saves a lot of time, not to mention how cool it is to be able to take your car across the lake. It's a quick, smooth ride across. Only 4 stars cause you hang out in the car the whole time as opposed to walking around.

Ah. The joy of putting your car on a boat! This is one of the easiest ferries to ride. The Grand Isle - Plattsburgh ferry runs 24/7 365. In summer, daytime, ferries run every 10-15 minutes. Yes, there is a published schedule, but it's more a guideline. The ferry arrives at the dock, unloads the cars, fills up with waiting cars, then leaves. If you are going off hours then definitely pay attention to the schedule. No reservations necessary. Just show up at the dock, take your place in line, get on the next boat. There was one time, years back, I think it may have been Memorial Day evening, when I could not get on the first ferry. As of August 2018 - it's $10.75 for car and driver. $4.50 for each additional adult passenger. You are allowed to leave your car in the parking lot, for free, for up to 72 hours. So you could actually make a bicycle loop around Lake Champlain starting and ending at the ferry.

We were staying in Plattsburgh, NY during our ride back from Quebec. We were planning a scenic route through Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire areas before heading back home to South Carolina. We then saw that there was a ferry leaving from near by us to an island off Vermont coast. Then a bridge would take us into some scenic roadways through the Vermont mountains. We rode to the nearby dock and there were two ferry docks (three total) operating affording a short wait across the bay of Lake Champlain. The ride was smooth and scenic, a nice comfortable cruise. The cost was $7.00 per motorcycle. Not sure what it is for other vehicles. They have a web site so you can check. If you get a chance and are looking for a nice adventure, give it a ride.

    A 10-minute crossing, efficiently run

Skiing the East rather than the West in March, seeing how Mother Nature's been snowing on them more than ever this year, I flew into Plattsburgh instead of Burlington, since Allegiant no longer flies to the latter. That entails an extra half hour of driving, AND a ride on the ferry across Lake Champlain. This is pretty fast (only about 10 minutes after you get on) and convenient (the alternative means driving all the way around the lake - not a good option), but not inexpensive: $10.25 in cash, the only form of payment accepted. They have a published schedule, but from the two experiences I had, I'm not at all sure how closely they adhere to it, particularly during peak times, when it's basically running non-stop, and 'we get there when we get there'. It's smooth sailing getting on and off the boat at the direction of the folks controlling traffic. Since it was the winter, I didn't see anyone getting out of their cars; I didn't see signs saying you CAN'T, though. I do wonder if ice is an issue if when it is a cold winter. On the ride going east, the ferry was not successfully docked the first time - it had to back up a few yards, and basically ram at the ice at the dock a second time before they let cars off! So, use this service, bring cash, and (even though they are 24-hour service) be informed about how often they run the time of the day you're trying to cross.

Went from NY to VT, then VT to NY later in the day. Easy, quick, super convenient. View was great. Staff was super friendly.

I had ordered up the taxi because I was forced to evacuate my apartment, temporarily, due to a serious septic gas leak of hydrogen sulfide and had no choice but to leave until a broken sewer pump was repaired. But the female driver never showed. With my bags packed and hotel booked and budgeted for, I waited outside my apartment filled with fumes. That's when a lime green custom vehicle appeared. A young man exited, told me, didn't ask me, to get in. He explained he was my cab driver. The vehicle also was equipped with flashing laser green lights. Puzzled, I explained I was waiting for a woman cab driver who was driving a Continental. The young man told me she was "tied up". I told him I wasn't going with him. He then, approached me, handed me a cell phone, claiming his mother, the owner of Island Taxi, wants to talk to me. A woman on that phone explained she was the driver's mother and apologized she couldn't make it and was "tied up". She told me her son was safe to go with. Heading back to my apartment was not an option. And, the clock was ticking on my hotel room reserved in North Hero, VT. Tough situation. The young man told me his name was Brooke. I observed there were dozens of firefighters gathering at the fire station within a thousand feet of where this taxi driver-potential customer chat was taking place, so I felt I, at least, had credible witnesses if something were to happen. Brooke took my bags, stored them in his odd vehicle. While he did that, I walked around his "cab" and observed something very disturbing: A huge air brushed painting sprawled across his vehicle body of a female with long brown hair whose mouth was gagged with a RED GAG. I was taken back when I saw this since I had long brown hair and did not feel comfortable with the suggestion that a female should be gagged, with a gag that was red, green, blue or of any color. When I then asked him to remove my bags from his car, he aggressively objected to what he perceived to be negative criticism of what he called "his art". I insisted he remove my luggage from his vehicle and that I objected to his "art". Our conversation led to his promise that he was a safe driver and would get me to my hotel. I should have listened to my instincts and should not have given into his argument. At any rate, I got in. At that point, he locked all doors and engaged a switch that ignited laser green lights that lit up the inside floor boards. So, then, I was rather convinced I had made a huge mistake allowing this unusual person to convince me to get into an uncomfortable situation. When he drove me to the end of our parking lot, and, then, to the main road, he made a RIGHT, heading south, instead of LEFT, which would have been north and in the direction of my hotel. When I objected, he claimed he was taking me to the airport. Claimed he had just returned from Ukraine where he left his girlfriend who he claimed did not understand him and now I was somehow going to the airport. Now, my discomfort rose to panic. I was locked in and concerned he was abducting me. His demeanor was calm, low voice and creepy. He did not listen to any reasoning. I then threatened to call the sheriff. When I made moves to do that, he did a U-turn, claiming he was then taking me to my hotel. He continued his monologue which seemed like he was making references to human trafficking which I found very terrifying. He finally took me to the hotel parking lot, where those Grand Isle firefighters I saw earlier, were, coincidentally, gathered in a wake for a tragic loss of life of children of one of the firefighters. They were all dressed as super heroes in honor of the children. The entire experience was frightening. I do not recommend that any solo females use this cab company, unless the female owner is the driver. I later discovered this young male driver did have a criminal record and works also as a taxidermist. SOLO WOMEN BEWARE!

I booked a taxi for my friend and I from BTV to Middlebury, which the website says costs a flat fare of $65 for up to 7 passengers. At the time I made my call, no one asked how many passengers were traveling. The driver appears at the airport and appears surprised that there is an additional passenger and is adamant that that's unacceptable, despite the information on the website. He agrees to drop us off only when my friend promises a discretionary cash tip. As we are dropped off, however, the driver tries to extort even more money out of us! I show him the information on the website and he says it's wrong. When I try calling the company to manage our dispute, no one is able to answer the phone. The driver demands $45 per person, and does not relent, becoming quite rude and angry, even going so far as to yelling at us. What it boils down to is this-either the driver was lying and simply a cheat or the website was incorrect in listing a $65 flat fare, and the business owners are incapable of providing current and accurate information about their fee structure to their clients. Either way, I would never travel with this company again, nor could I recommend it to anyone.
