We rented bikes at the Local Motion right on the path and enjoyed a good hour of biking before it started raining heavily. The path is well-maintained and easy to navigate; however, during our visit, there was about a 2 mile section that was closed. Going around it necessitated biking in traffic on the main road, so we skipped it. As it turns out, due to the weather, we had a short ride anyway, but had it been nicer, we would have been disappointed to miss such a large section of the path read more

The Lake Champlain Bike Path is a awesome gift to the area. Started by Gov. Howard Dean, this path I will say starts in Burlington on the Lake Champlain waterfront and goes north all the way into Quebec and then back down into New York, into Franklin County all the way to Whitehall. Then back north into Vergennes, VT and back to Burlington. I however have only biked and roller bladed a limited section of the bike path, it is one of my favorite spots in Burlington. It has gorgeous views of Lake Champlain and the Adirondack Mountains in the background. The view at sunset is especially spectacular! It is used also by walkers, joggers, dog walkers, and cross country skiers in the winter months. A wonderful must do when in the area. read more

Wonderful 20+ mile roundtrip bike path (and a bike ferry for $4 a person $8 RT). There's a bit of construction currently so there's a detour that takes you into a roadway but it wasn't too bad. The views on the bridge are beautiful and you cannot beat bike riding along the beach/water. It was truly a relaxing experience. It was relatively busy but by no means overly crowded (AND it was 4th of July weekend). There were parts of the trail where I was almost completely alone and parts where there were plenty of other walkers, runners, and bikers. Would definitely recommend this bike path to others! Be sure to grab a map from one of the local bike shops to help you track your route. Lots of fun and beautiful views! read more

Lake Champlain Bikeways - Bridge - Active Life Near Me - Burlington, Vermont

Great path, well kept and great scenery. We cycled out to the causeway - couldn't cross because it was October and there was no boat connection, but that didn't spoil our day. I didn't realize that is went all the way to Quebec and onto New York (as mentioned in Matthew A's review). I am thinking that that could be an epic trip one day...!!! The park at the waterfront along the bikeway was also really well kept and pleasant for exercising/picnicing - all in all, a great resource for the community! read more

Excellent bike path system minus a few kinks; poor signage when the paths enter neighborhoods, it's sometimes difficult to know where to go. Flooding in spring 2011 destroyed the beat part of the bike path between Colchester & South Hero & there is a possibility that it will never be rebuilt. read more

Lake Champlain Bikeways - Active Life Near Me - Burlington, Vermont

From the neighborhoods and great views of Lake Champlain to the mossy, tree covered paths and residential areas this is a great path for bikers, walkers, runners, you name it. Along the way you'll find picnic spots, camping grounds, cemeteries and more. I'm not much help on the map/overview of the path but highly recommend setting aside some time to experience this Burlington asset. read more

This is just OK. Pros: Very long bike trail, you can go quite far and some areas are actually *really* nice. Cons: sections near Burlington get insanely crowded. Many portions are in disrepair though the last time I was on it it seemed that they were fixing sections. You go through all kinds of neighborhoods--some look a little rough, otherwise it seems that there are some pretty nice neighborhoods. But people can be pretty frickin' rude along here. often times people will fly by you without giving warning, or there'll be a group of people biking or running that decide for some reason they get to take the entire width of the bike trail and not let anyone else (not even little kids) by. I've biked nearly half way across the causeway (starting from near Shelburne, so it's a pretty nice ride), and after you get past Colchester things do get pretty nice....but getting there sometimes can get a little painful. There are definitely better places to bike around Chittenden county. read more

This bike trail is BREATHTAKING! I can not believe the naysayers regarding this. It's a trail that you can ride from downtown Burlington all the way over Lake Champlain. For a mile or two, the lake and mountains are on both sides of the path. If I lived here, I would be here all the time. There's even a bike ferry so you can continue on the path, but it wasn't open when I visited. I thoroughly enjoyed my bike ride here! read more

These trails are breathtaking. My dad and I rode on these together during a family reunion up in this area. The only con is that the bike seats are super uncomfortable after a while. But that's literally the only con. Everything else about these trails is amazing. They go through the waterfront parks, through residential neighborhoods, down causeways, across ferrys, everywhere. One of the single greatest bike rides I've ever been on in my life, and I've been on quite a few. An excellent memory to create with my dad. read more

First...it's beautiful!! What a tremendous resource for the community. The downside....cyclists not following rules...i.e. say "on your left" when overtaking someone, also, not enough room for riding two abreast, lastly...it's a multi use trail...not a race, so take it easy. read more

This bike path is great. You can rent a bike for the day from Loco Motion right on the path, near downtown. It is paved for most of the way until you get past airport park and want to go on the causeway. If you do go this way, it is awesome because it is only a bike path (i.e. no cars) and you can go way out to the point where you have the lake on either side of you. You can only go so far because they have a break in the causeway so the ships can go through, in August there is a boat supposedly that will take you across, but it would be nice if we could cross over easily. If you go from the center of town with the lake on your right you will come to the sundial (see pics) which is cool. I do wish there were more bathrooms and water fountains. read more

Burlington Bike Path is several miles long and goes through downtown and along Lake Champlain. It's a great recreation path for bikers and walkers and it's enjoyed by many but it does get crowded and congested in certain sections however it's nothing to be overly concerned about. If you are into photography, you'll find many great places to capture some great scenes. read more

This is such a great bike path. I have spent alot of time walking my dog or skateboarding on the path. It is great around Burlington as there are many spots between the waterfront and North Beach. Its very fun to walk along it and find adventures on the way. Right next to the lake. A safe and healthy way to travel. So much fun. I cant wait till its warm so I can go for a adventure!!! Anyone visiting Burlington should rent a bike and ride the Burlington bike path. The views are breathtaking, especially as you make your way to the bike ferry. Make sure you have a full day to be able to take the ferry over to South Hero, where you can stop at Allenholm Farm. read more

On a recent trip my partner and I rode our bikes along the bike path all the way to the end. It was absolutely beautiful the entire way, nicely populated (so that as a woman I felt safe), and people were very friendly. The best part was at the end of the bike path there was a beach area on Lake Champlain which was really nice to sit on and relax. Definitely worth doing if you go to Burlington! read more
