Rockwind Community Links - Fundraiser through First Tee program at Rockwind held just before Thanksgiving. (12/13/2023)

You know you're getting old when you still refer to places as they were several years ago…read more Formerly referred to as Ocotillo Golf Course, Rockwind Community Links located at the north end of Hobbs, New Mexico. Other than an issue I had with some chick in the Pro Shop who was totally clueless and later hung up on me, I have never had any problems with any of the staff here. When I was a kid, I loved taking golf lessons out here. It's always been a nice course. Now that I'm a parent of upper elementary grade students, I've had the pleasure of being around the staff and coaches who facilitate the "First Tee" kid's program. Not only do they stress the importance of fun and fundamentals, but at the end of each session they discuss pillars pertaining to character and sportsmanship like respect and responsibility. My 9-year-old is getting a bit bored with it, but she has learned a lot about this great game. If you're not into golf like many wives seem to be - have a few drinks and apps or a light lunch at the Rockwind Grill. There is indoor and outdoor dining available. Also nearby to keep anti-golfers occupied are the following: + CORE (Center of Recreational Excellence) + Hobbs Veterans Memorial + Lovington Highway Health Walk (concrete walking path parallel to Highway 18) + McAdams Park + New Mexico Junior College + University of the Southwest + Western Heritage Museum and Lea County Cowboy Hall of Fame + Zia Park Casino Hotel & Racetrack This course often allows fundraisers throughout the year - so proud of my community for that.

Epic course. Great service and even faster greens. Book in advance as it can get backed up. I've…read morebeen coming here for years but forgot I can write reviews. Nice pro shop and a great bar with great food. I'll be back when they don't have tournaments throughout half the week.

We stayed at the MCM Eleganté next door, it was our honeymoon! We've been to The Links before but…read morethis time we had a wonderful woman who drove around selling snacks and drinks. We bought drinks from her and the the next round of drinks she gave us free for being newlyweds. She was very kind! She really made the experience for us. We went through all 18 holes of the course... it took us 4.5 hours because we were out there taking our time enjoying the experience. They have the tee times set up about 30 minutes apart so you gotta keep up with the holes or you'll wanna let them pass you up... which we did about 4 times... Anyways, hahah. We had a great time out there... lost balls, found balls and even seen some deer! Also, i'd recommend getting familiar with the course and where the bathrooms are. Thankfully we passed one on the course at the right time. Snacks included a sandwich and chips combo as well as misc snacks. They had alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks. I highly recommend stopping at The Links at Sierra Blanca.

The cost for the round was reasonable when you consider the location. The selection in the pro shop was a bit sparse and we were told it was because they were switching out for the seasonal items. Enjoyed the course... no bad shots!

Rainmakers Resort and Club - The chocolate cake. Not! The chocolate brownie, yes. So so, as brownies sometimes are. Worth $15, come on!

We both had to send back our plates because the potatoes were cold. When mine came back the potatoes were warmer but swimming in gravy. I literally had a plate full of gravy. The roast beef was flavorful, but not very tender. And I don't even know if there were sides on the plate because I couldn't see anything under the gravy. The waitress was pleasant but failed to tell us about the specials or the October menu that was already on the table in front of us when we were seated. We both were baffled by the lack of attention to our dining experience which we had been looking forward to all week. I felt like I was eating at Denny's. The food was Denny's quality, there was nothing special about it. And the chocolate cake I ordered was a small brownie in the shape of a pie with homemade whipped cream and some cherry chutney. That was the most expensive brownie I've ever eaten. What a major disappointment the meal was. I doubt I will ever return for a meal, it was just bad from the get go. Like I said, it was basically Denny's at four times the price. Was it worth the price for the view, definitely not! But with just a glass of wine in the afternoon on the patio, absolutley!
