Normally don't write negative reviews, but this one is needed. We rarely eat here and now I remember why. This place was filthy. Cob webs in the bathroom, rusted trash cans and filthy floors and fixtures. Everything is outdated and dirty. Speaking of outdated, they don't even accept debit/credit cards. Cash or check only. The calabash chicken was good, but a lot of my calabash shrimp still had the shell on them and the crust already fell off. Maybe we just had an off night. Service was really good. A sweet young lady took good care of us. For the price, I would rather go to The Flounder or drive 45 min to Blue Ocean in Clinton. read more

The service was excellent. We were seared promptly (a party of nine) and got our drinks and entrees quickly. Everyone in my party ordered fried entrees and were very pleased. I asked for grilled catfish. It was served in foil with no seasoning and stuck to the foil. The tap water tasted horrible. (Several in my party made the same comment about the water.) The flow getting in and out of the parking lot and the restaurant itself is poorly designed. No cards accepted. They were very busy in house and with takeouts, so perhaps I just ordered the worst thing on the menu. I probably won't try again because most of the selections are fried which I try to avoid. Went to a family gathering about 5:30 on a Friday afternoon. Good luck finding a parking spot! They have a huge parking lot but lots of customers. We had a reservation for 12 and hoped for a small private room to sit and talk but it was not available so we sat at two separate tables. The most amazing things about this restaurant are definitely the amazing murals everywhere! Outside are civil war and outdoor living & fishing scenes. Inside the walls, dividers and even the ceilings are covered with nautical scenes. Wow. You just want to walk around and see everything but as busy as it was, that wouldn't be practical. Waitresses were excellent, quickly bringing menus and drink orders. Many of our group are seniors so the smaller "senior" plates were ordered. I had been looking for this meal all week and eaten lightly to prepare. I was repeatedly told how great the food was. There was a slight delay since two of our group were held up by road delays. I opted for the larger and pricier combo plate of fried oysters and scallops. First of all, the plates arrived in tin trays. Haven't eaten from those since Marine Corps boot camp!!! Food was warm, not hot. Oysters were heavily breaded and scallops were dry, not juicy. Coleslaw was horrible, one bite was enough. Hush puppies were good, hot would have been better. Baked potato was the best part of my meal. Check the other pictures of food plates were filled, mine was quite different. I would strongly suggest not going at a busy time. Perhaps your experience would be different. Oh and just past the cashier at the exit was a wall mural of dozens of Disney and other animated movie characters. read more

First off when reviewing this restaurant you need to realize it's a " fish Camp". If you are expecting a high end Charleston seafood restaurant you will be disappointed. If you want a large portion of good food at a great price, and no frills, you will love it. The service was great too. Ambiance? Ha ha, what part of " fish camp" don't you understand? First, it's important to know it's a CASH ONLY place. That's increasingly inconvenient in today's world. You have to plan ahead. The fare is pretty good and reasonably generous. It won't knock your socks off, but overall, it's a good value for the money. We will definitely return. read more

I'm writing this review in appreciation of our waitress! I think the name that she wrote on our ticket was "Aiana" or something similar. We came for dinner with our almost 2 year old son and she was extremely accommodating to him. She took our order and then brought out our son's plate almost immediately to make sure he wouldn't get fussy while waiting for food! We've never had a server do that before and REALLY appreciated it! She checked on us regularly and brought anything else that we needed, and was overall just super friendly. Great place to go to after church. Right on the water. Buffay style. Get the chicken because it is absolutely wonderful. Unless you had a wonderful cook for a mama it is better than homemade. On the menu , it says "salt and pepper on request" for each item... we were seated at the last table in the back of the room that had the view of the parking lot. We are new to the area and we see this place is always crowded so we decided to try tonight. We left disappointed. The food was extremely plain, no seasoning, no flavor, nothing but plain cafeteria food. I ordered the founder filet and husband got the catfish both with baked potato. When food came out they hand us our plate with French fries and was like "he ran out of baked potatoes, oh sorry." Not even an option to pick a different side. I really don't understand how this place is busy? No flavor people!! It even has in parentheses (salt and pepper upon request), like seriously? I ordered two seafood platters that were pitifully made. I know that times are hard, but the amount of food that I received for $20 a plate should have been embarrassing to them. I know that it was close (20 min) before closing, but when I asked the older lady in to go about my plate she shook my plate around and said, "yep, that's it. Three pieces of fish, 3 shrimp, and oysters. Well, I don't see the oysters, but that's it." And walked away. I've always loved LBFC but will choose Flounder after this. I have ate here once before several years ago and it was 100% worth the drive. Sadly I can't say the same for this visit. As a positive, the restaurant is your typical fish camp, except with beautiful views of the lake. You can be seated so you can better see the water. Having a small kid, it was enjoyed. Now the food...yikes. I'm on a special diet and had to get the broiled fish. I got the flounder. It had zero seasoning. No salt. No pepper. No lemon. Nothing. Just a sad filet thrown under a broiler. I was able to make it "edible" with some lemon slices and salt and pepper. However, I shouldn't have to do the work at the table. My daughter and husband got dishes that came with popcorn shrimp. Hands down it was the most disgusting thing I could imagine. My daughter said it tasted like fish soap, and she's kinda right. My husband got the fried platter. The fried scallops tasted like a crime against scallops. They deserved a better fate. His fish didn't look bad. The oysters were good for oysters. This was our first time here and we were not treated good at all. It was obvious we were new and didn't know how the whole set up was. We came on a sunday afternoon and they serve cafeteria style. You pick want you want in the line and then find a seat and you have a server who gives you a drink. First, I think it's strange that it's a fish camp and they had NO SEAFOOD at all. They had fried chicken, meatloaf and a few other things as well as side items. You go through the line and pick what you want. When I was about to go to the cash register, the lady there with the dark hair and glasses was extremely rude. I was there with my husband, sister, nephew and aunt and cousin. Me and my sister, husband and nephew were first in line. There was another couple between us that we didn't know that separated my aunt and cousin. The lady at the register kept trying to make me pay for the couple we didn't know. We had one child (my nephew) and she kept trying to charge for two kids. My sister is a vegetarian and she kept trying to charge her for a meat plate. She was in such a "rush" she kept confusing herself. She had a horrible attitude. When we all finally sat down, she came running over to the dining area where we sat and yelled at us and tried to accuse us for not paying. Then she tried to charge us again for the couple we didn't know as well as 2 children's meals! She was horrible and rude. I will never go back again. I got the fried chicken and it was ok. Macaroni was super burnt. If I could give this less stars I would. Lady at the register with the brown hair and glasses-Check your attitude. If someone is new and has questions, let them ask. Don't try to rush people and go through the line and then confuse yourself and then try to blame it on us. Shame on you. It wasn't even that busy. Lake Bowen Fish Camp is a bit of a drive to get to, but for me it is well worth it. I was first introduced to this restaurant by my grandparents who had relocated to the area. Of course now this will always be a place that reminds me of my grandparents and I'm sure we'll continue to return whenever we're in the area. The food is basic fried seafood with a side of coleslaw and fries. There are other options on the menu, but we pretty much go with the fried seafood combos (they offer broiled, but who drives way out here for something healthy?). The meals are served on metal trays, the sort I imagine they may use in prisons, not sure, but they are pretty basic industrial things. My kids love the metal trays. Somehow it makes the food taste better. (I need to get a set for home, they're that cool.) I had fried scallops and fried oysters on my recent visit. Now, I ordered fried clams, but oysters are close enough, right? Anyway, I had never had fried oysters but I thought these were particularly greasy. I probably would send them back if I got them by mistake again. The servers are great. This place is full of southern charm and the view of the lake is awesome. One last note...
