I'm truly in love with this place! I visited Barcelona in October of 2010 and came here with my Articket in hand.
During this time, I visited "Through Labyrinths" which ran through July 28, 2010 to January 9, 2011 and was mesmerized by the presentation.
I spent nearly 3 hours in this exhibit learning about the historical and cultural concept and its significance. I began in the Unicursal Labyrinth space where I would look over designs and read the background through TV and audio components. As I went through each exhibit, I zigzagged through the floor as the curators laid it out where I can decide to go left, right or straight ahead, sometimes ending in a dead end and backtrack just like how a labyrinth was configured.
However, it wasn't confusing or claustrophobic as it wasn't set out that way since the curators had the insight that some people would have a panic attack if they couldn't find their way out. There were some visitors but not overwhelmingly crowded so I had the space and time to linger over a piece without feeling guilty of hogging all the time from the other viewers.
I was never really interested in the concept of labyrinths but after this piece I gained much admiration for this work. I always thought labyrinths was a rather dry form of art and purely from a mathematical standpoint, however curators Ramon Espelt and Oscar Tusquets' interpretation and vision allowed me to gain deeper insight.
In addition to the wonderful exhibit, the staff was extremely helpful. It was my first day in the area and was not fully acclimated yet. When I asked one of the representatives how to get back to Las Ramblas, she drew me a map on a piece of paper and patiently explained to me the street to take back. I was duly impressed by their customer service and definitely plan to return to CCCB when I am back in Barcelona! read more
