Nurse shark- what a fight !

Captain Eric and his boat are awesome! This weekend we chartered with him for the sixth time. He knows the Key West waters like the back of his hand and always shows us a great time regardless of what we choose to do. This trip was strictly fishing and we thoroughly enjoyed catching our lunch. Great times!!

My family and I had an amazing time with Captain Eric! Booking the trip went smoothly and Eric was very responsive when I had any questions. We caught a bunch of Yellow Tail Snapper which Eric cleaned when we returned to the Marina. The cooks at Hurricane Hole restaurant then fixed them for us and they were delicious! Eric is knowledgeable, friendly and "laid back". I highly recommended booking a charter with him. It was a perfect afternoon in the Keys!

My family was extremely happy with the Laid Back charter service. We selected a half day of scuba diving and fishing. My parents stayed onboard while my wife and I were spearfishing for lion fish. The captain, Craig, was knowledgable of the area and knew of several great diving and fishing spots. He was friendly and accommodating as well. My dad caught two nice sized yellow tailed snapper and we bagged a lion fish. My father also Hooked into a nice sized shark...he really enjoyed the fight! Craig, took our fish, cleaned and filleted them and returned them to us at our hotel, about an hour later. We had them for dinner just hours after they were caught...they were fantastic! Additionally, Craig treated us like we were captains of his boat and catered to all of our needs, even knowing what we needed before we did! Literally, every aspect of our charter from the reservations, coordinating the pick-up of our dive gear and having everything we would dream of need being on the boat made it phenomenal!!! BTW, special thanks to Lynnessa for her flawless coordination prior to the day's event.

We had the best time on the water with Eric and friends. We motored out to Snipes Point via the scenic route then ate, drank, and swam into the afternoon. No matter what you do though good times are on the horizon with Laid Back Key West.

Got to see a real conch!

Captain Eric is highly skilled when it comes to the waters surrounding Key West. From dolphin watching to snorkeling and fishing, Laid Back Key West does it all! This is the perfect charter for those who don't want to be shuffled onto the everyday boat that is stuffed with tons of people trying to get their fill of the waters around Key West. You can choose what you want to do with your time! You don't have to choose just one thing to do like snorkel OR fish. You can do both! Eric makes sure that everyone on board is having fun and is completely safe the entire time. Want to snorkel with your family and then go visit a sandbar that you can only get to by boat? This is the way to do it! Want to fish and then watch the sunset over the Gulf of Mexico all on the same boat? Then this is the charter boat for you! Laid Back Key West will completely customize your experience to whatever you want to do on the water. Captain Eric knows his way around the Keys and is an experienced Dive Master. I highly recommend booking your next charter with them because you will not be rushed or just feel like you are "just another customer". They make sure you enjoy the trip and have the best experience possible! I love that you can chose which activity you want to do and it all costs the same price, there aren't many charter boats out there that let YOU tell THEM what you want to do! Definitely recommend them for personalized and private charters if you are vising Key West!!!!

I spend a lot of time on the water in New England. When we visited Key West my wife and I where looking for a charter that wasn't strictly fishing. Eric was gracious, knowledgeable, and attentive. We had an absolutely unforgettable experience catching and cooking our lunch on the boat. Stops on the sandbars to soak up the sun from a completely different perspective. At the end of the day I can't imagine a better charter. The name says it all it is laid back, and it is fantastic.

Captain Eric is a wonderful person and has many good stories about the sea. The activities are fully customizable. During our tour we saw cute dolphins, meet all kinds of sea creatures when snorkeling and caught a basket of fish for our lunch. It's a wonderful and memorable trip!

A couple weeks before our trip we reserved a center console from Boat Rentals of Key West for 8 hours. On the day of the rental we arrived at their office in the Marina at Downtown Key West. The staff was courteous and gave us all the needed instructions we would need for the day. The boat was clean, gassed up and ready to go. We had a blast exploring the area and reefs around Key West. The Boat performed and ran great. Me and my wife have rented boats before and never have we encountered a staff as professional and courteous as the people working at Boat Rentals of Key West and their boats are in very good condition and obviously well maintained. In the future, we will be back to Key West and we will only rent a boat from Boat Rentals of Key West. Thanks again for the great service. Our boat rental was the highlight of our key West trip.

I never leave bad reviews, but in this case it was absolutely necessary. - "Boat Rentals of Key West" is a broker, but does not disclose at time of booking. After making a deposit on phone, we were sent to pickup our boat at a place called "Paradise Boat Rentals" at Murray Marine on Stock Island. - We arrived at Paradise Boat Rentals at 1pm where final payment was charged. Upon which, the owner "Rocky" recommended he guide us through the narrow channels to main water. Very shallow area that surrounded the location. - When we hit open waters, Rocky waived us through and we were on our way. 35 minutes later, the boat broke down. From 1st contact, it took them 3 hours to come assist us. - By 5:15pm, we had everything swapped over to a replacement boat. We used this replacement boat to tow Rocky 45 minutes closer to KW (out of courtesy). - It was cloudy, windy and the water was very choppy that day, not to mention, we were in a flat bottom deck boat. It was extremely rough to say the least, and we still had to make it back to Murray on Stock Island. - By 6:45pm we could barely see. We realize at this time, the replacement boat has NO lights and NO navigation device. My wife calls Rocky on his cell, and explained we were about 500 yards from his marina, but needed an assist due to no lights or nav - it was not safe trying to navigate the narrow channels without someone experienced with such area. He begins screaming at her and accusing us of being intoxicated. I get on the phone and he begins cursing "I know what F...n games you are playing", "I'm not coming to help you", "Just wait until you get here and see who you are messing with", etc, etc. I explain to him that 3 of us on the boat, including driver had not taken 1 sip of alcohol that day. - At this point, due to the situation and the threats from Rocky, we pulled over to a bulk-headed area and called the local authorities. They agreed we should not drive the boat as it was very dangerous to do so without lights. They then helped return the boat and coordinated our vehicle pickup from Murray. At 9:30pm, we were finally returning to our hotel. - We are now going through the channels of dispute with our credit card company for right at $400 in charges (from both this broker and Paradise rentals)! Rant over. Proceed with caution.

The day we went, the waves were pretty choppy. I got in the water and panicked. Kelly, our guide, expertly made sure I got back to the boat. Spencer, our dive master, helped me up and reassured me the whole time. I got to spend the next couple hours hanging out with Spencer and robin (the captain), which honestly, was a great time. What I loved is how committed they were to safety, and also making me feel valid in my decision to abort the dives. My partner successfully completed two dives and had a fantastic experience with Kelly guiding him. If/when we're back in key west again for diving, we will definitely book with Lost Reef again!!

Lost Reef Adventures...the worst dive shop that I have encountered in 30 years of scuba diving…read more The negatives: The owner, Nick, was extremely unfriendly to the point of being hostile. He had a serious attitude problem and had no idea what the concept of "customer service" meant. He just stares at you, waiting for you to say something...it's really creepy. After telling us to show up at 7:00 for the morning dives, no one from the shop bothered to show up until 7:45. The crew was only okay. The dive master acted like this was an annoyance to be taking us out on a dive...like he just wanted to get this over and done with. He just swam around for 45 minutes until it was time to re-board. The boat pilot told us, "We're not leaving the dock until you get your gear ready." There was one guy (with a mullet and ear rings) that was pretty cool and very helpful. The equipment was fair, but had some issues. The first tank that I hooked up to only had 1200 psi, turns out that 1/4 of the tanks onboard had previously been used and not removed or refilled. The fact that they all had the rubber covers on the valve (indicating a fresh tank) made it very confusing as to which tank to use. My dive buddy's regulator was inoperable. The dives were fair at best. I guess Key West really isn't that great for sea life when compared to the USVI or Belize, buy the dive master didn't even bother to point out sea life. EVERY dive I've been on in 30 years had a dive master that took pride in his/her job and did their best to point out - things to see - during the dive. I told the travel office on the base at Sigsbee not to recommend them. There are vastly superior shops like Southpoint Divers and Captain's Corner that will give you a much more pleasant experience. I dove with Southpoint on all of my subsequent dives in Key West. The positives: The boat was great - lotsa space for everyone, safety equipment was plentiful, and the safety briefing was well done. As I mentioned before, one of the crew (lives in Roatan, Honduras and was visiting his daughter) was very helpful but unfortunately, he was the exception. The BCDs, masks, and fins were fine. There's not really anything else positive that came out of my experiences. Do yourself a favor and use one of the other dive shops in Key West.
