Jenny and Chris did my intake and made me feel welcome and at home as soon as I met them. Chris is hilarious. Jackson made every outing one to remember and always had a way of connecting the clients. Nicole always had a positive energy that rubbed off on me, and we would bond over music. Thank you Rene for always taking us to AA meetings and the store for a soda or vape! In general I'm so thankful to have come here every single one of the staff mad a huge impact on me whether that be personally or through groups. The facilitators are also incredible, Brian was my personal favorite. This is the only treatment center that my son has ever gone to that he actually wanted to stay at. Dylan and his staff have shown my son so much love and have given him the tools to stay sober. My son has also never worked on his core issues until he went to Beachview, no other treatment center has ever cared enough about him to even help him figure out what those issues were. I'll start by saying that some of the staff were outstanding. And, just like anywhere, some of the…read morestaff were inadequate and ineffective and just going through the motions. Some of the group facilitators were very well-liked and effective and engaging while others brought negative emotions and lack of excitement from the very reading of the group agenda in the morning. After sending pictures of the front and back of my insurance card, I was assured that my insurance would cover my stay. HCBTS sent an Uber to pick me up and brought me to Newport Beach to the, "Platinum Sands House," which had potential but was badly neglected. The carpet from the living room up the stairs and at the top was badly stained, the kitchen was badly outdated, the bathtub in my room had no shower head on the end of the pipe, the garage door didn't lock, and two of us had our e-bikes stolen, the front fence was embarrassing with missing pickets as the house is at the corner of 32nd and Balboa, a very heavy traffic area and traffic light where people stop and observe. My bed sheets and pillow cases had blood stains, and I have pictures of it all. This was very clearly just a place to house insurance paychecks while they go to groups every day at another building. There was no money put into the house to make it the least bit nice in a very long time. Very substandard for private insurance rehab housing, two blocks away from the beach, or not. But the kicker? After being at Hotel California by the Sea for three weeks, I was called into an office by the head of the group facilitators and told that my insurance company had called and said that this facility was out of network and that I was not covered to be there. I was told to vacate the premises in 24 hours. I was horrified because I was woefully unprepared to leave, had no money to get a plane ticket across the country where I was from and had nowhere to stay. I was told, "We don't want to, "Street you," (But, unfortunately, you have to go). I was looking at being in a shelter with homeless people or being on the streets of California 2700 miles away from home. This was the most unprofessional thing I've ever experienced in my life, and it was so profound because they were dealing with a human life-my life. It was clear at that moment that the movie Body Brokers was very real and the recovery industry is just a business. There are certainly people in the industry who genuinely care, but they have no choice but to work for cutthroat monsters who are millionaires and have a bottom line that must be met with bodies in beds on a constant rotation. Fresh meat is the key, and relapse is almost congratulated. In my three weeks there, there was one fentanyl overdose and two relapses in one of the houses. Certain clients are allowed to overstay their needed treatment time as long as there isn't a new patient needing a bed at a higher level of care which, of course, brings in more money per day or, per, "Unit," which is how insurance companies dole out authorizations. If you're thinking about rehab, I really don't have any advice because they all play the same games and all use the same tired lines to get you there such as, "We got you.. Don't worry.." The people who are incharge of getting admissions to agree to come are very well trained and coached in the proper lines to use to disarm any hesitation you may have and allay any fears or doubts you may have. This was only my second rehab, and I saw enough in this time to realize very clearly what goes on after spending time on the phone with my insurance company and hearing the cold tone used by the administrator in delivering the devastating news that the entire thing was a mistake and I was on the losing end of it. She said they weren't happy about, "Having to eat the cost of my entire stay," and to that I say GOOD! These rehabs have entire departments to deal with verifying insurance, yet they badly botched my approval for care and didn't catch it until I had been there three weeks and was just beginning to get the root of my issue. Rehab is about money, and you have to be your own advocate because nobody at these facilities is looking out for you. Even if they are a kind-hearted person and really want to help you out, their hands are tied by the almighty dollar and the people who demand a fresh crop of bodies in beds constantly to keep the money flowing. And it was told to us repeatedly by case workers that the length of your stay is completely dependent upon how creative the case workers are in their weekly assessments of your progress and condition. If they like you, they'll work their magic. If you demand anything of them or give any kind of push back, they'll make sure your stay is short. Watch Body Brokers, and you'll understand. It's definitely one of those experiences where hard-working people can start to think, "Dang, I'm in the wrong racket... I need to get in on this grift."

I was admitted to SeaCliff on 8/25/17 after spending a week in New Start Detox in Santa Ana, Ca. I…read morewas scared. I had overdosed on heroin on 8/17/17 and an angel sent me to New Start telling me that I would go for detox and then to a longer term facility where I would be safe and taught how to get my life back together without the use of drugs and alcohol. When my detox discharged me and brought me to SeaCliff I was so terrified. I was angry, I had so much self hate, I had no self worth and I felt hopeless. The staff immediately assured me that those feelings were temporary and that it would get better. It did. I met the owner, Daryll, that day. He had an open door policy. Daryll ended up being like an Uncle to me. From day 1 he let me know that I was important and he believed in me. Then I met my counselor Dave. Dave was another one, he had been through hell and back like myself so we related. With those 2, the therapist, the support staff and the 12 step fellowship, I began to grow into a woman who stopped hating myself and everyone else. I actually started recognizing my worth, I learned boundaries, I learn how to have relationships with my family and friends, I learned how to help others, they gave me the freedom to get a sponsor and go out and work those 12 steps like my life depended on it because it did and then get my own sponsee and help her, and now I have 9 months free from active addiction. I graduated from the program at Seacliff and now I live on my own, just 4 miles away. The team helped me make a plan so that I'm close by because my blood family lives on the East Coast. My Seacliff family is just a quick ride away and I stay close to them, my meetings are right down the road, my sponsor is right down the road, Daryl and Dave are just a phone call away as well as the support staff. Although I graduated they are still here for me just like they were when I was in their facility. Just because you graduate doesn't mean you have to leave their family. That facility literally saved my life. They taught me how to live again. They had simple rules that I respected, they took me to meetings everyday, I attended their groups everyday, they had fun events for us, I had never been in a treatment center which had such a family setting that taught me so much about living free from active addiction at the same time. Every time I had a bad day I would run into Dave's office or Darryl's office and when I would make mountains out of mole hills they would say we can get through this this is not the end of the world and they would handle the problem. Words can't express my gratitude nor explain the benefits I've reaped from SeaCliff Treatment Center. I've been to MANY rehabs but not like this. I've been to the fanciest, I've been to the institutionalized ones... this place is the best because I nevet felt like I was actually cared about like I was here. I had the freedom to go out and adult, get my sponsor and get busy with the program after my SeaCliff Responsiblities were handled for the day. I would never go anywhere else after being here... There are so many other amazing staff members at SeaCliff and so many awesome things that go on there and I am blessed that I get yo go there and be an example for the new clients and show them that it works. God willing I never have to go to treatment again as a client. I could keep writing for days about this place! If you follow the program and the rules that SeaCliff has and get a sponsorand work the 12 steps then you can live this amazing life that I have found too!!!!
