The teachers at this school are amazing, especially Mrs. Myrick. As a person who despises English,…read moreshe made it enjoyable. Her acknowledgment of the class' difficulty and annoying nature made it feel more comfortable to be in that class. The way she described concepts and understood how students interpret novels makes her one of the best English teachers I've personally ever had. In addition to that, she is incredible as a person. Making jokes, defending kids, and being overall kind is what makes her unforgettable. So in conclusion, if you ever want to write a thesis statement and maybe have some fun, she's the teacher you want to have!

I never actually went to this school but when I was younger I used to go to the park here and it…read morewas awesome. I remember back then parks were actually fun. Nowadays they focus way too much on safety and take out anything that could be remotely dangerous.. I guess that's a sigh of relief for parents but kids just want to play. Now the park has been completely modified. It's much smaller and they have taken out all the best things, like the giant tires, and replaced them with swings and other boring stuff. The school does have a huge playground though, with a few soccer fields and baseball diamond. It's great for anyone that likes to organize their own games with their friends on the weekends.

I spent my Junior High years at D.S. MacKenzie…read more Although I wasn't the most popular kid, I still love the school. Something that was really great about D.S. was the teachers. The majority of them felt like my friends. I remember having heart-to-hearts with a few of them throughout my years there and it was really great. It was nice to have support. I know that they've renovated over the years, so I'm not sure if it's still there - but I hope it is - The Wall of Fame! The Wall of Fame is where all the school athletes who won races, championships, etc, had their pictures hung. I was a 3 time girls' basketball champ so I'm very proud to be on that wall (if it's still there)! I know that the quality of teachers is still very high at D.S. because I have friends that I went there with, who are now teachers there. They know how valuable our ear there so I'm sure they are working hard to give today's students the same great experiences we had. Great school!

The best part about this school is the students. Everyone knows everyone and everyone pretty much gets a long. That's how I remember it anyways. The inside is a square shape so it is pretty easy to find your way around. They also had a snack shack which had some great snacks at lunch. These were the good old days when no one had a care in the world.

I have only negative things to say about this place: - Dusty…read moreshelves with working materials; - Highly modified Montessori method: no freedom of movement in the classroom, no allowing children to learn at their own pace; - Preparatory classes for toddlers are a waste of money and child's nerves; - The owner conducts herself in an unprofessional manner: judgemental, gives unsolicited parenting advises, loses temper(!). I urge parents to see the classroom and meet the owner before signing up their child for any class at this school.

Next, most of the teachers are welcoming and knowledgeable but some of them are very irritable and unkind like the band teacher and grade 8 French and social teachers. The school itself is well maintained, with the bathrooms being kinda clean for a middle school, floors are messy but I guess that's normal. All in all not a bad school to attend but not really good either the choice is yours.

Okay, I'm not blood-related to any of the kids who attend the Cogito Program at Mount Pleasant…read moreElementary. But I used to work at the after-school care here, and saw what the kids are like after a hard day of Cogito. Cogito is a special academic program that uses explicit phonetics and repetition strategy to get the material into the kids' heads. They have regular homework everyday, and often the kids would do their homework in the daycare before their parents picked them up. I don't know about you, but I was never that diligent when I was seven years old. While I'll admit the program works, because these are some of the smartest kids I've ever seen, it does take a toll on them. The poor children are probably mentally exhausted, and want nothing more than to unleash all their pent-up energy from the whole day. Unfortunately right after school hours, when they're with the daycare staff! I think it's important to remember that all kids learn differently, so while Cogito may work wonders for some, it may not be the greatest for other kids, especially the ones who need to learn through hands-on activity. On that note, I will add that it's great for getting kids to read early. There's nothing like a five-year-old teaching you the difference between the "a" and "ai" phonemes!
