All my concerns were totally heard out, and I never felt forced or pressured to do anything I felt uncomfortable with. I was given clear expectations and multiple options at every step of the exam to make sure I was never surprised or uncomfortable. By the end of my visit, I had answers about my issues as well as a clear, manageable plan for my care going forward and backups in case Plan A didn't work out. CWHC is a haven for people who have had barriers or negative experiences with health care, and they are doing amazing work to provide care to people. I wish every health care institution was like CWHC, because they are providing the kind of dignifying, respectful, and accessible health care that everyone deserves.

I'm so glad to have a reliable healthcare provider, especially with all of the uncertainty of the times we are in. When I expressed concern that I was potentially losing my health insurance after being furloughed, they explained their sliding scale model and assured me to never cancel an appointment for the reason of not being able to afford it, because they will always work the patients to make it work. My son went in for a routine annual cleaning, but it never actually happened. Instead, they only took X-rays and told him that he would need to schedule another appointment just for the cleaning. The very next day, my son developed a sore throat. At first, we assumed it was minor and had him take over-the-counter medication, but his condition worsened each day. Now he has swollen glands and is on three different medications. He had no symptoms at all before his visit to Howard Brown Health. I sincerely hope that proper sterilization procedures are being followed before equipment is used on patients.

While checking in they told my daughter to change into their gown for 24 hours - she did. But after I left, they did a strip search on her without telling me nor her about this during the intake - to me, this is wrong. They also forgot to mention the 'beacon' that they put around her leg to track her on the floor. She is 9yo, she needed more explanation from her mom that no one was tracking her and she was still able to come home. She was admitted Thursday night and it wasn't until I called multiple times that her therapist finally called me Monday. This is not okay. Continuing with communication, my daughter came home with a black and blue mark due to a fight she got into. No one ever called and told me about this. She said the kids swear non stop on the floor and fights happen but no one called to tell me this. Again, while I wanted to like this place, it just seemed that the communication and lack of care really did sway my to not like this place nor refer it to others. My 2 stars go to Nurse Jade and Nurse Ella who did return phone calls and when I called they were able to fill me in on how my daughter was.
