I adore this library. The staff are always more then happy to help you out with anything you might need, or explain anything you might be confused about in the exact detail you need. Plus it's always very neat and tidy in here, and everyone else who comes in is also always very respectful and kind. The Lafayette Public Library is an irreplaceable resource for the community. It has been dynamic over the years, adopting new technologies to ease access to many resources. Work has me in my car a lot and the Library's audiobooks have made this time productive. At last count, I've checked out over 700 audiobooks. Thank you! read more

I try to take my son to new library's so he can see other places. This place is very nice. A large area for toddlers. They have many legos and trains. Then foam area. For the older kids they have computers and a video game area. Good size parking lot. Staff was very friendly and attentive. read more

Very rude employees!! Last time I checked the "tween zone" located on the top floor is for ages 11 and up. So with that in mind I as a 36 and a half year old woman should be allowed to enjoy the area as much as anyone else. The librarian claimed the reason I was asked to leave was for my volume but I think there are hidden motives. The tween zone is located next to the children's area where story times take place. I made sure to keep my volume no lower or higher than the employee conducting the story time. She was in the children's area speaking at the same volume as me. But no I was the one asked to leave. read more

We chose our residence for proximity to the library years ago. It has always had a reasonable selection of books. However, the retention of staff has steadily become less so (which begs the question of, why?) and the movement to more diverse offerings has been more narrow than one might think appropriate in an age of trying to see "everyone." Everyone is not necessarily represented in programming, books, etc. Moreover, they have adopted several policies (and trained new employees differently from old on prior policies) which are less than welcoming. Is it hard to operate a public institution with the various issues that are probably not in their control? Sure. However, there is a lack of transparency and care as they not only have less stability of people at the library but also adopt things like collections referrals for late materials. In an age of lots of ways to communicate with patrons and a time that public institutions want to be treated as having a special place for the community (and care for them), the choices here are less than on par with the alleged interests. read more

I was new to the city and looking to sign up for a new card. The people here walked me through the whole place and showed me everything and got me a new card with a breeze. They are so friendly here! I had to call to check on a renewal and the person Zoe I talked to was so helpful and friendly. I love the library and this one is now my favorite simply because of the people who work here. Five stars for the programming they bring to the library. One star for how they treat their patrons. I was waiting for an event and as a 40 year old woman I guess I was sitting in a chair in the tween section. Keep in mind this was during a time of day that tweens are still in school. I was asked to leave because my mere presence in the tween section will make tweens uncomfortable (their words). Ok, a little eye roll inducing but I comply. I go sit on the ground outside the tween section, and I thought that was that, but then was told I needed to sit in chairs on the other side of the library next to the unhoused guy asleep at a table, and out of visibility from anyone in the library. I couldn't help the irony that the library staff was more preoccupied with me hypothetically offending a nonexistent patron, than putting me, and actual patron in a position that was uncomfortable and where I felt unsafe. It's a bummer because I definitely am hesitant to return to this library for any of their programming, and I definitely don't want to bring my kid there now either. read more

this is a three tiered building, two main floors and a basement level, the main section is on top of the first flight of steps as you enter in from the main lobby. The childrens section is to your right where the general library section is to your left. There are plenty of tables and desks with outlets that you can plug in your laptop or other devices and quietly and peacefully conduct your business whether it be for school or work. The walls on the general upper level display monthly rotating works of art, which is a great use of what would otherwise can considered wasted space. The noise level is acceptable except for times when the place fills with loud and noisy kids. read more

Brief update: I tried out the curbside service, which is very slick. The library is still closed to the public, but you can request books in their collection by placing them on hold. When they are ready, you make an appointment for a one-hour time slot to pick them up. When you arrive, you call the circulation desk and they bring out your books in a paper bag and leave it on a table in front, then you leave your car and pick it up. It works very well, and the books were ready the same day I requested them. read more

Honestly, I want to keep this to myself.... but... I'm feeling generous today, so I will share. This place has free wi-fi, so it's a great place for me to play with databases and study. Sometimes I get a private study room (there are only two, on a first come, first serve basis) and other times I sit at a desk. The place is quiet and I find it easier to focus than at a cafe. If this review results in more traffic and I'm definitely yanking it out. read more

I come here a lot with my kids - they have a wonderful children s section, as well as DVDs, audio books, and a big non-fiction section. The staff is amazingly helpful. For a small town, this library is out-sized in it's selection and service. If they don't have a book, you can have the reference department request an inter-library loan. A real gem! read more

We love this library for the large children's section. It's full of books (obviously) as well as games and toys. There are rooms downstairs that can be rented for parties (fun!). It's especially nice that they offer PJ Story Hour so us working parents can enjoy some fun with the kids before bed in the evenings. read more

I love going to the library with my toddler son. We get a few single books, and usually grab bag of pre-selcted books that the library puts together. They have games bags with books too! I need to stop by for story time because that sou ds like fun for the kiddos too! read more

Free wireless, great views, cozy seating, beautiful lobby. Has an enormous music collection for a small town library. Friendly staff. Good kids programs. Great Spanish collection for kids and a Spanish language story time. Only four stars because: Coffee cart is no longer there. Doesn't seem to have any borrowing agreements with other local libraries. If you want a book they don't have, they suggest you drive to a different library to get it - usually Louisville or Boulder! read more

Wow! What a nice library for the kiddos and the adults too! This library has two floor level, elevator, computer room and a book sale. This library has wonderful parking and lots of good staff who are willing to help you. Don't have a library card? Don't worry. They'll log you in the computer as a library guest and you can stay on for an hour or two. The wifi is wonderful here and it doesn't require a password, but beware of the library being in a black hole. The first level doesn't have signal whatsoever, so your service is none-existent here. Instead, the second floor will save your phone a couple of bars, because it seems to pick up more on coverage. If you're trying to log into Gmail and require a 6 digit code like me, then select Gmail to call you with the digits and go outside to listen to the voicemail. Literally, this is the inconvenience of not having service at this library. This is mostly kid friendly and has more resources for children such as bilingual education and tutoring for kiddos who struggle with certain school subjects. There are lots of wonderful DVDs to check out and lots of unlimited categories of literature- this library is never empty. My library back at home is empty on selection, but this one doesn't. I attended Baby Time with my daughter-in-law and my grandchild. Baby Time is designed to introduce mothers, fathers, or caregivers and babies ages 9 - 18 months to nursery rhymes, songs, fingerplays, and early literacy information. It is also a wonderful way for parents to socialize. read more

This library is near my house and I sometimes come here to study. The people who work here are really loud, though. Every time I come here, I'm struck by the fact that the library patrons are respetful of noise level, but the people whom I'd expect to be monitoring the noise level are seemingly oblivous when talking to each other. Aren't we still supposed to whisper in libraries? It kind of blows my mind. read more
