So I always stop in when I'm downtown. At least the last three times I've stopped in this shop the simple employees are SO CATTY . Especially the last time, this heavy blonde cashier looked me up and down, like Regina George, when I walked in and was so disgusting! I am a fortunate woman, and that was such a turn off I walked right out. I mean, how rude! No hello or even an attempt to make a sale! I left and dropped a stack on magnolia pearl and Johnny was across the street at Native Wren, which the women there are SO WONDERFUL! Seeing the newer reviews it seems this is the trend at la te da nowadays. Other than the free people most of the brands are wholesale with a high markup, that's just not for me. Especially the "oh peasant" attitudes. From one small business owner to another, you'll get alot farther just being nice. It's truly that simple.

There are some well priced items like hats, scarves and quirky PJ's and then some pricier bags and clothing. Cute shop in town and part of an array of other locally owned businesses in the square. I enjoy seeing what's around in each season, though I haven't made a purchase yet. Definitely fun to browse.

When an owner recognizes potential problems from customers, and steps up to own and correct those issues, I feel it is then only appropriate to give them another chance. Backroom Boutique is one such instance, and I must say, our most recent experience was nothing but positive. First, the gal who was providing customer service was a very marked improvement over the sales individuals from several years back (at least when we visited). She was friendly, forthcoming, and helpful. The selection is quite large with quite an array of products; they had a pretty astounding selection of "personal massagers" which impressed us most, having many of the higher-end products out on display. The prices were pretty decent; its obviously hard for a mom and pop shop to compete with online juggernauts, but their prices weren't that much higher, and for being able to actually see and test out (in your hand, sickos) the various products made that little cost very easy to accommodate. The selection and variety of such products has grown exponentially, and I definitely recommend seeing them in person as an online description pales in comparison. The only thing that I've seen done better, and would be somewhat interesting to see done here in our own town, is in comparison to a store called Salzers down in Ventura, which is more of an 'alternative lifestyle' store, is tying in different products. Salzers focuses on music, but also has a nice pipe and adult store built within, and with a teeny touch of Spencers gag-prop business as well. Backroom Boutique does have some pipes (although they are getting rid of them I believe), but I would think part of their potential failure in this store would stem from people just not knowing they even sell such products. But that's obviously just a different business possiblity, and BB does a great job at being an adult store. Certainly if they could something to still liven it up a little more it could be even better (I still despise slat-walls), but there's not much I could really say is 'wrong' with their current setup either. Very clean. Good service. Good selection.

Then there was one employee who just followed us and stood about 50 feet away with her arms crossed and giving us an evil glare. At one point I even said to her that she was making us very uncomfortable by treating us like we were thieves or something. Im 50 years old and this was truly the worst and most uncomfortable store ive ever been in. All the employees were extremely rude and made it impossible for us to even look around to see what we wanted. This store used to be a great store when Dave Jenson owned it, now its owned and operated by owners who think everybody that goes into the store are thieves and criminals who are trying to steal from them. This truly was the worst experience of my life and I will never step another foot into that store nor would I recommend any body else to unless you wanna be treated like a criminal
