Our breakfast was really delicious and plentiful. They even had our favorite mango juice. Marc and June were lovely hosts. I'm very into German Heritage and was interested to find out their background. Marc is very handy and has done a wonderful job of keeping the house in good shape.

The decor fit the theme of the place and was attractive and well-placed. We enjoyed coming around a corner and finding a wooden cradle tended by near-life-sized dolls, for example, and stopping to check out all the old photos hung on most of the walls. We started to get a better sense of local history just by walking through our B&B! Pretty cool. The room was cozy and attractive, complete with "amana blue" walls and a lovely quilt on the bed. The bed was very comfortable, and the room included a writing table, which I always notice and appreciate. I like having a place to set up my laptop, even if I never end up actually USING the thing! Also, I'm a sucker for looking through all the local brochures and maps, and it's nice to have a surface for that. The room had a coffee maker and they supplied coffee, along with sugar and everything else you'd need for a decent cup or two (but seriously, don't miss the coffee served at breakfast. It was AWESOME, and I keep kicking myself for not asking exactly what it was!). I liked the shampoo and soap provided, which was great -- usually I'm not a big fan of what most hotels/B&Bs carry, but these smelled great and didn't bother my (annoyingly sensitive) skin. Makeup remover and towels specifically for makeup removal were also provided, which was a nice touch. There was a wall-mounted TV in the room -- being up high, it didn't take up much space or take away from the charm of the room, but made it possible to lounge on the bed and watch a movie. Lots of channels available. Joy and Ron were super nice. Joy gave us a map of the area and suggestions about possible places to check out. She spent most of breakfast in the kitchen (and wow, the breakfast was fantastic!), while Ron chatted with us and other guests out in the dining room. They were both great to talk to, and I'm pretty sure we're taking Ron's advice on how to buy our next car! Haha. I LOVED the dining room, by the way -- so pretty, lots of wood work and warm colors, just a great place to sit and enjoy coffee or tea and some amazing breakfast. There's a picture of the room on here, so be sure to check that out. Last but certainly not least, everything was clean -- clean bedroom, bathroom, dining area, hallways. The cleaning staff's on top of their game. If you're heading to the Amanas, I highly recommend staying at this B&B. We had a great time!

The food was excellent! The carriage house is very cozy. There is a small refrigerator, ironing board, microwave, and even bottles of water for the guests in a shared area. The room I stayed in twice was on the main floor with a very comfortable bed with nice linens, sofa, and table with good lighting. The bathroom is small but had everything I needed including a nice shower. The entire place was spotlessly clean. Access to the carriage house was easy. Parking is in the driveway. I felt very safe at all times. The outdoor gardens are beautiful. Shelley shared books of pictures of the storm that went through a few years ago and destroyed a lot of the trees. The damage was terrible but seeing their place now you'd never know that storm ever happened. I was heading north and stayed at Belmont B & B on the way up. I loved it so much I wanted to stay on the way back. They were booked full so I changed my travel dates so I could stay here. If I'm ever passing through Cedar Rapids again, I'll hope to find a room open so I can stay a third time. The location is not far off the beaten path and a short distance from Amana Colonies. I almost forgot to mention the other guests were so nice. Both times our breakfast conversations were interesting and genuinely enjoyed. Stay here! If they have an opening book it as soon as you see it so you do not miss out!

Shelley and Ken have converted the carriage house of their historic home into comfortable rooms with period furnishings but also modern amenities like WIFI and satellite television. The grounds are extensive, and must be a great pleasure in warm weather. Breakfast is awesome! Delicious food and plenty of it. I enjoyed chatting with the other guests, and hearing the history of the property from our hosts. Though I don't have any dietary restrictions, Shelley did ask about that, so I'm sure they could accommodate those if necessary. Belmont Hill is an unexpected bit of Victoriana in a neighborhood of '70s ranch homes, though separated from them. If you are looking to be "where the action is", it may not be for you. But if you want friendly people, a comfortable room, good food, and a relaxing "no pressure" atmosphere, Belmont Hill is definitely your place.

It…read moreisn't far from town at all and if the weather had been nicer, we could have walked into the entire area. We were met by the innkeeper, who showed us to our room and how to operate a few things. The unit was very nicely decorated, (lots of cat decorations) clean, spacious and comfortable. It was the upstairs unit and the top door was a beautiful stained glass door. Inside, we were treated to a comfortable sitting room with large flat screen tv, coffee table and wicker chairs. There was another beautiful stained glass cabinet with tea pots and saucers in it. It was so beautiful that I had my husband paying attention to this really fine workmanship so he could someday build me something like that. That didn't go over well... The kitchen had everything you could need including a full fridge, stove/oven, dishwasher, nice dining room table, kettle and coffee maker among other things. There was plenty of kitchen items for cooking and once again clean and beautifully decorated. More cat decorations! There were two bedrooms, of which we only used one. And guess what? More cat decorations. Not complaining as we have two cats! I thought they were pretty neat. The unit itself definitely had a feminine touch of decoration without feeling old and like you were at Grandma's house. It was a nice change, as hubby isn't overly fond of the B&Bs that feel like you are at someone's grandparent's house. The second bedroom was very floral, so good thing our son wasn't with us. Ha! The bed was comfortable, the heating system worked well and the bathroom was great since we were only there two nights. No jacuzzi, but fine for our short stay. We opted out of breakfast, since we wanted to try some of the restaurants in the town, so we cannot comment on it. The price was very reasonable at $80 per night. I would definitely recommend this place for a stay close to town. On the way out, we talked to the other innkeeper and he was extremely friendly.

We rented the cottage for a few months, on and off, and it was so comfortable and home-like. Super clean! Renee made sure we didn't want for anything, and she makes THE best pumpkin bread! They went out of their way to help with anything we needed. The property is beautiful and well kept and is close to anything you might need. The bed is amazingly comfortable with pillows galore. Ohhh and the jacuzzi tub!!!! It fits two people easily and is just heavenly. There's a skylight and plants which for me, was so relaxing. Looking to get married? Jim has you covered. (Found that out at the end) Do yourself a favor. Instead of staying at a large hotel, dealing with lobbies and other guests, stay in the cottage. PS. After having Renee's pumping bread, I wish we had opted for the breakfast!!
