Cabin #1

Comfortable and reasonably priced accommodations for the northern Keweenaw. Our one-bedroom cabin was clean, spacious enough for two people and a bunch of gear, and a pleasant place to spend some time on two rainy afternoons during our stay. Could quibble with the lighting. No lighting over the stove, which makes cooking more difficult than it needs to be. In the bathroom, there is a bright light directly next to the mirror, which can be blinding when you're leaning into the mirror to shave or whatever. Fairly close to some good hiking and rockhounding spots, and to Copper Harbor. Has a bar/grill on site, also a store with some basic foodstuffs, regional beers, and lots of souvenir items. A very quiet location overall. We will likely stay here on our next trip to the Keweenaw.

Visited this weekend while snowmobiling from Copper Harbor to Houghton. Service was great and the breakfast sandwich hit the spot! Highly recommended by me. The owner was super friendly and very knowledgeable about the area. Trails in the area where some of the best we've ever ridden!

We checked in the RV resort which is down the street. Given the scarcity of food stops nearby we decided to go here. We were not disappointed! I had the Philly sandwich which was stuffed with meat, peppers, onions and came with a side of fries. Delicious. Wife had chicken tenders with BBQ sauce. Excellent. Well served by the counter lady, Debbie. -Jersey Mike

After a morning of skiing at mount Bohemia we went for lunch at the Bear Belly Bar and had one of the best burgers ever.

This review is for the deli-sandwich portion…read more One of the best sandwiches I've had in years. I live in Chicago area and simply cannot get a good sandwich. Either the bread, the condiments, the temperature (what's with heating the sandwiches) something is always wrong. Originally I am from northern New Jersey so I am used to NYC style delis, which consistently speaking, are the best in the country. That's how sandwiches should be. Anyway, ole girl and I were doing a road trip, this place had good reviews. The sandwich was absolutely delicious and made with LOVE! I would absolutely go back, and absolutely highest recco! We are approaching a thousand!

I certainly did not expect to find morels or lion's mane mushrooms! I got two sandwiches and a pickle from the deli. The pickle had a good snap and wasn't overly salted or spiced. It was refreshing on the trail. The sandwiches I picked out were the Gratiot River and the Brockway Mountain. I liked the Gratiot River more as the avocado gave the sandwich good moisture, while the Brockway Mountain was rather dry. They were well packaged for portability. The bulk foods section is extensive, and they have a good variety of snacks and frozen food that punches above its weight given the smaller size of the store. If you're in town, definitely stop by to pick up something new!

I thought the fries were really good. My wife and kids enjoyed the chicken tenders. My mom ordered the Mac n cheese with bacon and chicken. She said it was delicious. Portion sizes were big. There were only a few people there. We sat down and was greeted by our waitress immediately. After reviewing the menu I decided to get the Fanny Hooe BBQ burger. This is a huge burger topped with plenty of thick sliced bacon, smoked gouda cheese, caramelized onions, and what seems like a gallon of Kentucky burbon barbecue sauce. All these on a large brioche bun. The burger was out on a short time. There was sauce running down the sides of the bun already, which was soon running down my arm. The sauce was sweet, tangy, and Smokey. The thick sliced that bacon topped this massive burger was crispy adding plenty of texture to the burger. Hiding under the smoky gooey melted gouda was a pile of caramelized onions. The burger itself was cooked to a perfect medium well. All these flavors worked together into one great burger. I would have needed a box if I had eaten the fries, but I left them because they were soft and oily. I'm not sure if they weren't cooked enough ot the fryer was set too low, but they definitely took away from the meal. I will give this place another try when we come back to the lodge again.
