I commissioned a jumpsuit with lace overlay for a wedding. In a word, horrible. The first fitting the garment looked homemade. It was supposed to be strapless but one cup was higher than the other and the waist was below the natural waist, right above the crotch and not straight. The pants were SUPER wide and long. One feature I was adamant about were the pants had to go past the heels, I did not want them to stop at my ankles. She said the wide legs could easily be taken in and she pinned the pants while I was wearing the heels. The lace overlay was too tight in the arms so I couldn't get it on.
On the second fitting it was just a hot mess. I couldn't get the lace overlay on and the jumpsuit was just awful. The pants stopped at my ankles, specifically what I didn't want, and she wide legs were too narrow with these puckers on each side. She said she would need to remake the pants...by the way I bought a lot of fabric so that we could have options, not fix major mess ups.
Overall the garment looked like I made it. So I told her don't bother with the fixing. Just give me the fabric, keep the down payment and let me go my way. She did. I basically wasted nearly $400.
I don't know if the pants was the issue. My friend said dress designers on Project Runway tend to fail when it comes to pants. So maybe a jumpsuit isn't in her wheelhouse. But that doesn't explain the lace overlay. It was too small from the get go.
Luckily I had another outfit being made by a designer in DC. That one took one fitting as I took it home after the second fitting. I wrote a review and put up pics in Yelp. read more
