I am shocked that I am the first person to write a review on this perfect little fine dining…read morerestaurant in Perigueux, I hope that this review will encourage others to stumble upon this quaint beautiful little place. Having stopped off in a local hotel, we decided to book into Un Parfum de Gourmandise. There were a number of good reviews on another review website. Upon arrival we were welcomed by a very accommodating young lady who asked if we wished to be seated straight away or have a drink in the foyer. The decor inside is completely in contrast to the drab street the venue is situated on. So we decided to sit down and have a drink. I opted for the local ale, which I was surprised to say was not repulsive (France not really being known for cask ales). After our drink and small nibbles that were provided without being ordered (all very tasty) we were seated in the small restaurant. Other than us there were only one other occupied table which I admit initially worried me. We opted for the 30 Euro 3 course meal and had a bottle of champagne to accompany it. The lady at the front desk took the orders and also served them as they were delivered; they were all extremely well cooked and very tasty. Having been to a few "fine dining" places this place really stood out. We asked the waitress about the place and she explained they were recently opened and she was in fact married to the chef and they ran it as a family venture. The chef came out and although struggled with English still kindly indulged out grilling and let us know he had been working in kitchens around Paris and other French cities. Over all this place was a great find, and I would strongly recommend anyone in the area to stop off and try the amazing food. The icing on the cake was the value, approx 60 Euros for an experience I have paid near to 10 x the amount to have in other restaurants (some that didn't even meet the obvious expectations)

Le Clos Saint Front did not come up with many reviews, and not on Yelp. The only reason we stopped…read morethere was that it was opened on a Sunday. And the rest was just magical. Chef Patrick Fuega is working the room to greet the customers and taking care of the more delicate or theatrical dishes (we had Brazilian beef cut with a sword in front of us, all with the reason why but you'll have to find out for yourself!). The menu is changing every 45 days but I had the "garden vegetables my way" and it summarizes perfectly the state of mind of the chef: deeply rooted in humble and countryside origins, the Chef lets you know from the start that he knows better how his food must be prepared. Which would be arrogant if the meal did not deliver, but it does. Another subtle hint in the cuisine is the time spent by the Chef in Asia, which infuses the recipes with exotic touches, always at the service of the main dish and not just as a cover up of lacklustre cuisine. They also have a magnificent terrace but we went there on a rainy Sunday. Nonetheless, the warm welcome and friendly post-lunch discussion with the Chef, on top of a perfect experience, will definitely lead to drive the 2+ hours to try it again in the summer sun. A must if you are in the area.

Traveling in the Dordogne, we were looking for a decent spot for dinner in Perigueux. Holy wow! I…read morecan't begin to tell you how well these guys delivered. After eating all over San Francisco, we are rather spoiled, and yet here was a menu with not one but numerous departures from the 'norm' - and I can honestly say that everything we tried was amazing! We ate on the terrace which was a classically old French space with plants and old rock walls lending their support to a timeless experience. Service? Not sure how to beat this. The waiter graciously walked us through the menu in French and very good English, he went out of his way to interview our children and create custom dinner choices followed by unique dessert plates with each child's name written beautifully on each! What a great experience!! Don't pass this up!!
