In terms of location, it's relatively easy to find. Once you're in the Plaza de la Constitucion…read more(which has a fountain), look for the sign that indicates Oscar's Tapas Bar (not to be confused with Oscar's Pizzeria which is next to it but not under same ownership). Once in the alley way, go to the end and take either the stairs/ramp (which is a bit slippery) or the elevator (better option) down & it should be to the left of the pizzeria. In terms of the tapas, the food was good & prices are reasonable (~4-9 EU). We would recommend the chorizo in red wine sauce (cooked with bay laurel leaf which according to Rocio is native to Andalucia). But remember to bring your Euros because they only accept cash. In terms of experience, that's where it makes the difference. Rocio (co-owner) was amazing in every way. She was thoughtful, patient, and super-helpful! She told us how some of the recipes are from her father, who originated from Sevilla. The shrimp in garlic sauce was decent but the chorizo in red wine sauce was better. According to my fiancé, the red wine sangria was the best she's had because it was flavorful with a good kick (she got buzzed after just the 2nd sip) ! Wow! At ~9:40pm on Thurs night (6/26/2014), as we enjoyed our almond tart (which Rocio said the almonds are grown in this region), we were entertained with a free flamenco dancing show at the stage next to the elevator

The view is great, down the valley towards the ocean. The seating is comfortable and plentiful, although I'm sure it gets busy at peak hours (we were there at 3pm). We shared sangria and about a dozen different dishes, all of which were truly delicious. The chorizo in red wine was definitely a highlight, and the cous cous was really good too. The staff were all fun and friendly, but never annoyingly attentive, and they have colouring books for my daughter to play with. It's unlikely we'll ever come back to Mijas, just here on a random stop on a random holiday, but if we did I'd definitely come to Oscar's again.

Menus had pictures for every item, and although useful I'm instantly put off by this, I feel it cheapens a restaurant. My end of the table decided to share the Gambas Pil Pil (actually very tasty), a ham plate and the avocado salad (which was massive!). They arrived in the traditional Spanish way ie as and when things were ready, and although ours arrived in a timely manner, the other end of the table had to chase some of their items several times. We ordered our usual round of coffees after which took a wee time to come out too. I'd rank this place as being overpriced for what it is, probably due to it being on the main tourist drag. Beer is cheap however and comes in the cutest welly boot glasses, so a star for novelty value there. Would I go back? For the welly boot beer - yes, food - maybe, though Mijas had plenty other places which caught my eye, and service - not so much.

We decided it was too hot sitting outside and moved inside. While seated Inside, we waited another 15 + minutes for the same rude waitress to approach our table. Seeing how horrible the service and attitude of this waitress was, we decided not to order anything and left. Fortunately, we found a great restaurant close by, Meguinez where the food and service was great!
