Had La tea das cater our recent wedding reception. During our tasting, the food we tried all seemed cold after voicing our concerns we were assured top tier servicing. I was so disappointed to hear guests telling us after our event that not only did their food arrive to the table cold but multiple tables received the incorrect entree after multiple lists were provided breaking down each of the meal selections along with seating charts. The flavor of the food was all great but plated options do not seem to be the best quality. read more

It seems like they do a lot of events for the party planner (our neighbor's son) so I believe they were expecting nothing less than awesome. Their food, I thought was very cute. They served mini burgers, chips, meat balls, pork, vegetables on sticks, rice, and dessert (which I thought was the best). The service was amazing, very courteous and nice, getting all the guests what they needed and happy. The dessert was a sort of a strawberry cake mixed with strawberry topped off with whip cream. I thought it was amazing. In the end, I believe all the guests had a wonderful time. The food was part of it and well the alcohol was another! When I described my vision was for my 50th birthday party this past November (2019), the Levine Museum's Event manager, Brittany Brathwaite, recommended La-Tea-Da's Catering for the food. From her perspective, Janet and her team, would be able to deliver an upscale presentation as well as tasty food at an affordable price. She was right! La-Tea-Da's is outstanding. I wanted Southern Style Good Luck Food with a twist for my New Year's Eve themed birthday bash and La-Tea-Da's offered great ideas. First, guests were met with a wonderful mini chicken and waffle appetizer as passed hors d'oeuvres. There was an eye-catching fresh fruit and cheese display set up as well. Since my entrance wasn't going to be until after the cocktail hour, Janet sent a sample plate of appetizers to my room along with the signature New Year's Eve drink she came up with (Sparkling Pomegranate Lemonade and Garnish - nice touch!). The main entree was set up as a buffet, where the La-Tea-Da's team served perfectly seasoned collard greens, Charleston Shrimp & Grits in individual petite cast-iron skillets, cornbread muffins, peas and rice and turkey meatballs. The guests loved it! My party was more than a month ago and folks are still raving about the food. Truth be told, I was even more impressed with the service. Janet and her team did everything they promised and more, including helping me locate my guest book and setting it up before my arrival. The staff was well-dressed and friendly. La-Tea-Da's just catered an early Thanksgiving Day luncheon at our office. They did a wonderful job with everything. For starters, they had an assortment of small biscuit sandwiches that looked like mini-ham sandwiches. Since I don't partake in pork, I skipped those and headed straight for the good stuff. The buffet included sauteed green beans with carrots (fresh of course, not canned or frozen), broccoli & cheese casserole (delightful -no condensed cream of mushroom soup in that casserole!), whipped potatoes with turkey gravy on the side, turkey, cranberry sauce (they had 2 - one with actual cranberries, and one of the icky congealed canned stuff), and a large assortment of breads and rolls. They also brought sweet tea, unsweet tea, and bottled water. They also prepared an entire table of desserts which included pecan pie, tiramsu, pumpkin pie, assorted brownies, cheesecake pops, and a few other things. Again, everything was delish but I guess we'll all be wearing our fat pants to work tomorrow! (Seriously, we eat WAYYYY too much at our office - they need to install treadmills & elipitical machines in a breakroom or conference room!) Since I didn't plan the event, I can't say how easy they were to deal with, but I asked the person in charge of planning and she said they were great. I did go online and check their website, and the prices I saw for corporate events were very reasonable. All in all, I would definitely recommend La-Tea-Da's for catering. read more

About me: female, New Yorker, foodie, design-lover La-Tea-Da's did the reception catering for my wedding. Kelly Matthews was my catering lead and Jessica also helped on the day of the event. My expectations were dramatically exceeded. I would recommend them to anyone for these reasons: 1. Flexibility - As an out-of-town bride, Kelly was quick in responses, edits to estimates and suggestions to queries via email since I couldn't attend in-person meetings too often. 2. Professionalism - Team worked so I didn't have to think about anything on the day of the wedding. They even prepared plates and drinks for my husband and I so that we didn't wait in the buffet line and had a few minutes at our table to eat before crowds arrived. Jessica helped by directing us during the event as well and giving us heads up on timings. In addition to food, they helped set up decor - even lit lanterns and candles on tables! 3. Fair Prices - I wanted interesting food combinations, which doesn't usually go hand-in-hand with reasonable pricing for a big event. However, Kelly was great in offering many choices and speaking to the chef several times to ensure we had great variety. 4. Presentation - Food was displayed beautifully. Kelly gave helpful suggestions on how to set up the buffet for good crowd flow throughout the event. My favorite presentation was a small bamboo plate with a BBQ slider and homemade potato chips - delish! 5. Quality - I received a lot of questions about who did my catering from friends who are also in the wedding planning mode. Guests loved the food and flavors were appealing to all. Valerie suggested the menu and all the food was just delicious. We had a variety of foods too. I received so many compliments on the beautiful spread on the table plus how great the food tasted. The driver who delivered the food was very helpful and set everything up for me. I knew he had another delivery to make but he was patient. He made sure I had everything ready to go before he left. Nothing was left out. They even provided to-go containers and my guests were very happy to take food home. It was lovely and my experience with this company was great. La-Tea-Das is very cute and lots of fun. It's definitely for girls...I can't imagine going with my man, or really with any man. There hours are kind of limited and the menu isn't so elaborate, but the place is worth it for the ambience alone. The tea selection is excellent, and I'm kind of a tea geek. I agree with Lindsey R. that it's not a place to go necessarily for the food...it's more for snacks and tea and chatting with friends in a fabulous atmosphere. My wife and I got married back in 2007 and were lucky enough to hire Janet and her team with La-Tea-Da's. They helped us put an amazing event that we warmly look back on today. I am writing this now because we still stay in contact with Janet to this day. Just yesterday for Valentines Day I wanted to do something special for the family. I had a birthday party here about 5 years ago and I brought about 9 of my closest friends and we dressed up in ballgowns with fancy jewelry and took pictures, then I got this super delicious vanilla cake with pink flowers on it. Of all of my birthday parties, this one wins hands-down. I know little about their food-but their cakes are pretty amazing! La Tea Da's catered both my rehearsal dinner and wedding this past April, and I don't even have words to express how amazing the whole experience was. Being a foodie and someone who works in the industry, I have pretty high standards. I certainly didn't make it easy on them! We brought La-Tea-Da's on as our caterer at the last minute. Seriously last minute - like a week before. Did I mention my wedding was multicultural and I wanted to include a good amount of Venezuelan and Spanish inspired dishes? Janet met with me to discuss the menus only days before the wedding, and she put my mind at ease instantly. All of the challenges I thought would be insurmountable, namely my eclectic taste in food, only seemed to excite her more as she threw out creative solutions and suggestions with the enthusiasm of a kid in a candy store. In the end, I wound up with my dream menu. Incredible passed hors d'oeuvres, Paella, tapas, shrimp & grits, ceviche, gazpacho, tacos, sushi, a Venezuelan parilla station, late night philly cheese steak sliders, and more somehow all came together beautifully to create one of the best food experiences I've ever had. My guests consistently echo my sentiments as well. My only regret was not taking the time to eat even more (though it wasn't for lack of trying on the part of the staff! We arrived to the reception venue to a lovely candlelit sampling for two while the cocktail hour wrapped up and the amazing staff diligently kept our cups and plates full the whole night.) I recently chose La Tea Da's to cater my wedding in Charlotte. I had a very small group, 26 ppl including me and my now husband. My husband is Brazilian and they were able to help us create a menu that mixed Brazilian cuisine and Southern cusines together that was so delicious it was the main talking point of my wedding. The chef that they have is new and he is creative, smart and very talented. You won't find food this delicious from most catering companies. It wasn't basic or simple. I also worked with them to pick tables, chairs, flatware and glasses for the wedding at Party Reflections. Everything was delivered easily and correctly. The setup was flawless and they created a simple, elegant tablescape exactly as I planned with no questions asked: something I really appreciated on my hectic wedding day! The service of alcohol, passed appetizers and entrees was smooth and professional. Finally, the weather turned rough (did I mention it was outdoors in 90 degrees?) and began a torrential downpour. The staff sacrificed themselves to get all important items (food and linens) into the house or our shed. Our guests are STILL raving about the food at our August wedding. One of the most important parts of the wedding for us was the food--and Janet and her team truly brought their A-game! We've been to our fair share of weddings with they typical dry protein, vegetable, and a starch plates. We wanted none of that. Janet was able to take our vision of an upscale tasty home-cooked southern theme and turn it into everything we asked for and more. With 100ish guests, we had passed hors d'oeuvres and 3-4 plating stations (plus my personal request for ice cream) all presented in such a beautiful and creative way and on budget. It's all about the details with La-tea-da's. And even our pickiest eaters were impressed with the quality of the food and service. We changed our menu items a few times and Janet was always so flexible and easy-going about every little change, and offered great suggestions for us along the way. She even packed us a huge doggy bag after the wedding--such a nice touch since you're usually running around greeting guests and barely eating on your own wedding day. Working with the La Tea Das new team is the definition of a nightmare to the point that I have been waiting for after my wedding to post my review in fear they would ruin my wedding! That's the kind of person Janet (the owner) is. I read the reviews below and I would agree 100% to all of them when Kelly Matthews was on board. And that is when I reached out to La Tea Das to cater my wedding and the first experience was amazing - I felt so confident in her approach, ideas and she even helped me find ways to cut cost and get the most for my money. Well during my engagement Kelly left the company and after working with the owner it was SO clear why! I work in the hospitality industry and I have never been spoken to like that in all my years' experience. I was speechless after our first conversation! She opened the conversation with explaining that Kelly has left and then her second comment was how foolish I was to have my wedding in the location that I had chosen. Excuse me?? My wedding was at the Charlotte Museum of History in their outside gardens - it was breathtakingly beautiful - of course there is a risk for having it outside but that doesn't make me stupid! So she talks for the entire 45 minute call never ONCE asking what I wanted, what my thoughts were, or how we envisioned our big day. Nothing! She just talked and talked and in this conversation she is adding, adding and adding items to increase my bill of things I never wanted or asked for. It was clear ALL she cared about was bringing me to the cleaners. So when I tried at a later date to adjust the items to get back into my budget; she told me I couldn't they have already made too many adjustments for me and they can't do anything else. Are you crazy? What are you talking about? We never made any adjustments they were all adjustments you made that your customer doesn't want! I could go on for hours but it's not worth it. In the end we were able to get out of the contract and I hired another caterer...Creative Catering that was AMAZING! The food was to die for and the service was perfection. Corey the owner is such a wonderful person he will make you laugh and do everything it takes to make sure your wedding is the best day of YOUR life! And ours truly was...thankfully. Called about placing a pick up order for a smallish shower that I am hosting. First I was told that I had to order for 20 people minimum. I explained that I wanted to order off of the a la carte menu, and would in deed be ordering enough food. The lady I spoke with(don't remember her name) hesitantly let me continue. I then asked if there was any way to pick up my order on the Saturday of the event, because I would be driving 3 hours in the night before and would not make it by closing. Right off the bat she said "no." I then asked if it was at all possible and would be willing to pick it up at any time that works for them. After a brief hold, she came back and said "no." No reasoning, just "no." Will definitely be taking all of my business elsewhere and will never recommend based on customer service alone. read more

While searching for wedding catering I came across La-Tea-Da's and loved their menu selection and presentation. However getting a quote and information from them was beyond frustrating! I submitted a request online, a week went by and I heard nothing. I called to follow up and she said she did receive my online request and would work on getting it to me within the week. After a week passed and I still did not hear anything I emailed them to follow up and they said they would get me the information by the close of business day. Another few days went by and after still not receiving information I called to let them know. The lady on the phone told me that Elizabeth was "very busy and had a lot on her plate". My mom died suddenly and the church couldn't provide enough food. I called La-Tea-Da's with only a few days notice to feed 150 people. LFD has catered several events for friends over the last few years and they just keep getting better. Our recent party was held at the Commonwealth, their new venue and it was beautiful! The decor, the linens, everything was lovely. And, of course, the food was scrumptious! We picked from the a la carter selections, but no matter what you select, you can be sure it will be delicious.
