The menu, and our food was a little quirky. Sooner of the dishes were definite hits, while others sorry of missed the mark.
The staff was attentive and fun, but have very little English and our bad French led to some miss ordered dishes, and an inability to get menu questions answered.
Despite the problems, our party of six had a satisfying meal and enjoyed the evening.
To of us had the vegetable crumble starter, which was one of the misses. Other than the cheesy crumble, the nice assortment of thinly sliced vegetables had little taste. This dish and a few others were a bit underseasoned. The accommodating salad was quite tasty.
The fois gras crepe with gingerbread was a little odd, at least partially because the ginger flavor tender to overwhelm the foods gras, and it was had to get a single bite with all of the flavors together.
The polenta served with the swordfish was quite nice with lots of smoked pepper flavor.
The cassolet was delicious, and very filling with a fall off the bone duck leg and thigh, a nice church of sausage, pork belly, and of course white beans.
The pork cheeks with curry was very mild with an interesting curry blend.
The desserts were good, with the cake of the day, and the Apple tatan being the favorites. The cafe gourmond was too intensely sweet to be satisfying. Rather than being a few perfect mouthfuls, it was more of a disjointed collection of unrelated sweets.
We had fun with the staff despite our mutual difficulties communicating, and had a good meal overall. Worthy a visit in a tiny Town with limited alternatives.
