We stopped here on our way home from camping, and loved it! Adobada tacos, pork tamale, bean taquito tarasca were all delicious but especially the tacos! Chicken tostada was good, but next time I will try more taco suave fillings. No chips! Marinated carrots were great with salsa. This is our comfort food and #1 brunch spot in Lewis County. Soups are the best on a chilly day with a lot of the spices and limes. I love the potato taquitos tarascos with mole. Service is direct and fun. Iced tea and coffee are fantastic. read more

This place was awesome! My chili verde was so good. The meat was tender and the verde was perfectly spiced! I love leaving warmer than when I arrive. The chili relleno was also really really good but I unfortunately only got to try 1 bite! It will probably be what I order for myself next time! Let's start this off right. I moved here from California but that doesn't make me an expert on Mexican food. By the same token, everyone else on here claiming that their Cali roots qualify them are equally bankrupt. I AM a big guy who eats out a lot when he is not cooking most of the food in my household. I know how food is constructed, how flavor is built and I do not give a tinker's damn about presentation. The food here is, in my estimation, and that of my family who ate there with me, outstanding. You want chips? Go to Chipotle. You want flour tortillas? Again, Taco Bell awaits. Neither are truly traditional. We white people like them, so restaurants serve them. The food here is flavorful. Each member of my family has a preferred entree by which we measure restaurants. I like Chile Verde, my wife likes adobada, my child loves Carnitas, so much so that I had to learn to make them. We found each of the meat choices we appreciate to be excellent. The Carnitas remained juicy, having a good crust but with the flavor of the spice and marinade penetrating the meat. None of us were crazy about the beans, but beans are a regional thing, some are thick, these were thinner. Flavor was good, with evidence of pork-fat in the taste and consistency. The sauce was rich. The Chile Verde was right there among my two or three favorites. Often the downfall of a Chile Verde is not being selective with the meat, leaving a lot of fat thinking that it will be covered by the sauce. This was not that. The sauce had the depth and spicy-sweet flavor that I have come to love and the meat was, again, discrete chunks, well-crusted and juicy inside. My wife actually had Carnitas so we didn't get to the adobada. We will be back though to try. My kid had three tamales. Trying the pork as well as the chicken. Without any extra sauce they were quite pleased. The house-pickled carrots were a little palate cleanser, a nice feature especially when they're made fresh. I maybe might ask for the tortillas to be on the griddle for five more seconds, to develop that little bit of color, a touch of more developed flavor, but I'll drive an extra 20 miles for fresh tortillas. I almost never eat the rice. It's never worth it so I didn't bother. I assume, given the quality of everything else, that it was good. HOME MADE Jamaica! Oh, my goodness that was good. We drove 90 minutes up from the Portland area (where the Mexican food is disappointing) to meet the kid who was driving down from college. We'll make the drive again, just for the food. La Tarasca is worth the trip. read more

The Pork was delicious, the Pico de Gallo excellent I also ordered Sopes with Chorizo - thicker Tortilla sautéed in Chili. The Sopes was a unique and delicious taste experience. The Sopes alone makes it worth traveling to La Tarasca to to partake. Caldo de Cameron - wonderful vegetable broth which tasted like Mussels- perhaps the restaurant utilized Shrimp Shells to prepare the broth? Flavorless awful doughy tortillas served with meal weren't any better. At least the Spanish rice was good. First off, they don't serve chips and salsa; instead they serve pickled carrots and salsa. We ordered their super popular Carnitas entree. The pork tasted really tender and good! We also got their fresh homemade tacos. We got the adobada (pork in chili sauce), chicken and ground beef tacos in regular tortilla and crispy shells. We were surprised as to the amount of customers in this rest. Great we thought. Food should be great. Not so, Carnitas were dry and a bit over room temp. rice was really dry for some reason. Without Yelp, I would surely be 30 pounds lighter. Passing through Centralia on our way back from a State football championship, we wanted to grub on a celebratory meal. We didn't want the typical chain restaurant, so we did a brief search on Yelp and quickly found highly rated La Tarasca at the top of the list. The restaurant was not far off of the beaten path of I-5, on a slightly bizarre jaunt past a house with all kinds of oddities in the yard. Later, we found that odd house was RichArt's defunct biodegradable art installation. Around the bend, was the quaint yellow restaurant, La Tarasca on the North side of a dated neighborhood street. Pulling into the gravel parking lot on a Saturday afternoon, we quickly realized this was the most happening place in that small town. We had to park out back, and as soon as we exited the car, we knew we were in the right place. Aromas of heavy spices permeated our sinuses and instantly my stomach started growling. Seating is limited to a handful of tables and bar stools, so I suggest going on the off hours. However, we were seated within minutes. The service was GREAT by these tiny little ladies whom I suspect were from heaven by the taste of their food. I would like to make a few suggestions though. Do not ask for things that are not on the menu. They do not serve tortilla chips or burritos, so if you are looking for authentic Americanized Mexican food, there's a Taco Bell up the street. La Tarasca is the real deal, meant for true foodies and their kin. read more

Was in the Centralia area and tried this authentic Mexican family restaurant. Not the usual chips with the salsa, instead a delicious bowl of seasoned carrots. We didn't miss the chips at all! We let our waitress know we don't eat meat or dairy and she was quick to make food suggestions that they could modify to meet our dietary needs. We tried all three options and they were all flavorful and delicious. The mole sauce was the best we have ever eaten! The beans were tender and so good. The potatoes were an excellent substitution for meat in some of the dishes. This was truly authentic Mexican food and the friendly waitress was amazing. We lived in Washington for most of our life and now live in Arizona, nothing compares to La Tarasca, just went back a few weeks ago and had my all time favorite Adabada Tacos, the flavor is truly amazing, would love that recipe, especially now that I live so far away! The horchata authentic, no animal milk, which is hard to find. It's our new favorite stop between Seattle & Portland! I have a milk allergy, so I can't often eat americanized Mexican food. This was the real deal, without cheese on everything. I could eat nearly everything here. We had the chile verde & chile colorado. Both were rich in flavor and deliciously spicy.
