When u are on a island it's hard to find places that serve anything other than the normal & local beers. We stopped by with friends who had initially been here before it was nice to see the different beer selection. We sat & got ourselves some drinks, you have to get your own if u are sitting down it seemed. I had some Founders beer this was good nice & cold. We chilled for a little bit but couldn't last very long since it was way too hot inside. Overall decent place for drinks, specially if u are looking for anything other than the local stuff. read more

I loved this place. I was told it was a great craft beer location featuring local and overseas selections. This place did not disappoint. The staff were amazingly friendly and helpful. We order pints, flight, and a beer cocktail. It was all tasty and there's a good menu, but we had just eaten so we weren't hungry. Great location near some other fantastic bars. They have a wide selection of over 35 taps, plus bottles/cans and growler option. I'd definitely go back and even purchased some souvenirs. If you like good brews then I recommend checking this place out in old San Juan. read more

Came to this place with my group because it was conveniently close and we were dying to get a drink. There is alot of beers to choose from. They easily had over 20 beers on draft to choose from. There is no table service, so you must order from the bartender. We did not have any food there, but a nice place to grab a quick drink. Felt like a regular bar in Brooklyn, forgot for a second I was still in Puerto Rico. read more

Made a late night food run. Didn't have time to take pictures but man. For bar food, the food was amazing. Me and my friend ordered the Queso Frito, the Tripleta sliders, and the Guava wings. Everything was phenomenal. The Queso Frita was reminiscent of cheese curds but were made of cheese specific to Puerto Rico. They were also cubed instead of rounded, and served with a sweet sauce which I wouldn't have paired with it but was interestingly delicious. The guava wings came next and were phenomenal as well. We don't have this flavor at most places where I'm from so this was a pleasant surprise as well it was packed with flavor and gave a sweet but savory flavor to the wings. They didn't have ranch so I opted to go with blue cheese as my dipping sauce. The tripleta sliders were by far the star of the show. They were made from a chorizo ground beef blend and topped with cheddar and bacon on a Hawaiian roll. I can still taste how great it was. Service was above average, and the atmosphere was fire. Definitely could feel the energy of the town and could tell we were surrounded by locals and not only tourists which was refreshing. The ambiance by the bar was great, and they also had a live band playing. 5/5. I'll be back anytime I'm in San Juan. I'd highly recommend. read more

If you like craft beer, this is your place! We came here to check it out and it didn't disappoint. I'm not really a beer person but my companion is so I had bookmarked this place and we tried it early enough during the day that the bar was still only halfway full. They have a lot of options as far as craft beer goes ranging from some local breweries to the rest of the US. They also offer some pub snacks and sandwiches/wraps. We sat on a small table by 2 large doors next to an alley and the street. It was nice and cool. I am not sure if the place had air conditioning but no one was sweating. I tried a local saison because it had a fearsome name... Something Dragon related! I liked it and I ended up getting a second one. My companion got 2 different types (wheat and some other type) and he enjoyed both. We also ordered some wings with buffalo sauce and some chips and salsa. I loved the wings but the salsa was slightly lacking in flavor. Service was fast and our waiter/bartender was very nice and friendly! read more

I felt in dangered the manager not only threatened life and pulled my phone off my hand and became confrontational and aggressive , forced his staff to make us feel unwelcomed. Don't go here very homophobic and unsafe! read more

Wow! We stumbled upon this place and wish I could eat here for every meal. Our server chose the perfect beer for me. And the Cubano was heavenly. Everyone knows a Cubano succeeds or fails on the quality of the pork. And their pork shoulder was perfectly tender and flavored. This place was incredible! read more

Taberna de Lúpulo is a "all-in-on" location... However, I mostly visited this place at night, during bar hours and hanging out with friends. Located in the heart of Old San Juan (a section of the Capital of Puerto Rico, San Juan), this place is known for their huge selection on craft beers and cocktails created with beers and bitters. Great service, great music and awesome company, you can't go wrong visiting this place because you will always find someone to talk to and make new friends. Best deal? Great place to stop for a quick drink. Over 40 taps including several local options. The BOB (Blood Orange Blonde) was pretty good. The only downside was bartenders didn't seem happy to be there at all. But it was a small hole in the wall little place in the middle of everything. read more

Found this place thanks to the lonely planet, and met up with a friend here from San Juan who had been coming for ages. The staff were incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. We tried about 6-8 beers as our server talked us through what they liked and told us about local breweries in SJ. Will definitely return when I go back read more

We had a great time here! We stopped by for a few beers and snacks during our self guided Old San Juan bar crawl. The selection of beer is great- even for people who don't love beer. Best part is they offer you a sample of whatever beers you want so you can make sure you love what you get. Our groups got a variety of beers from sours to IPAs to wheat beers and we loved them all. We also order the PR fried cheese, sliders, chips and salsa as well as 4-5 orders of fries. Most of the food servings (especially fries) are small. While the food is nothing great, it hits the spot when drinking a few beers. If you love beer, I would highly recommend stopping by. In January 2022, vaccination cards or testing Wes required. Only suggestion I would have is for fans- we were really hot especially those of us stuck behind the window shutter with no breeze. Otherwise it was a fantastic time!! read more

It's pretty funny - I love craft beer, and was staying basically across the street from this place, but had somehow managed to completely miss it. From the street, it just looks like any bar. Thankfully, we were looking around for places that were open and had food on Thanksgiving, and one of the other bars nearby we asked mentioned this one might. As it turns out, it did not (only beer), but I'm *very* glad they mentioned it, or I wouldn't have discovered one of my new favorite craft beer bars on the planet. Seriously, this place is pretty awesome. First off, they have a huge tap list (40ish - they also have an even more expansive bottle list, but I like being able to try a splash first), with some pretty interesting beers in all styles from all around the world. They also have several beers from Puerto Rico, which I had never really even thought about as a beer destination, but I suppose you can make good beer anywhere - Caribe Ales makes some great stuff, as it turns out. Would never have known. Their prices are all pretty reasonable, too. They are happy to give you splashes of things they have on tap before getting pours, and they have a really interesting taster setup - their full pours vary wildly in price, but their 5oz tasters are all either 4 or 6 dollars, depending on abv. This does mean, wackily, that there are some tasters that were a pretty good deal, but also plenty that are basically the same price for a 5oz or an 8/14oz pour, and a couple that were *more* expensive for a taster than a full pour, which is really my biggest complaint, because sometimes you just don't want a full pour, but given the choice between paying 6 dollars for a 5oz glass, or *less* than 6 dollars for an 8oz glass, that's a pretty obvious question. They also have great beer cocktails! They have one really fun-sounding one that's a play on a penicillin that uses a ginger-tinged beer instead of ginger juice that I would have liked to try, though I didn't get the chance this time. I did try their take on an Old Fashioned with a scotch ale called the ODB, which was a pretty legit (and delicious) old fashioned, a steal for 7 bucks. Finally, we did try their beer fries one day, which were good, though I will mention that their fries are actually chips, which is weird. They were good, though. Super fresh, with a great sauce, and unlike some places I've been to that serve that sort of food, if you run out of the sauce before you're done with the chips (which always seems to happen), they'll happily bring you more, and didn't even take forever! We weren't here for food, just beer, so that was the only food we tried, but the chips were solid enough that I would totally consider getting other food next time (though I'd be way more likely to if they had more Puerto Rican food on the menu - it's surprising that they don't at least have mofongo, which is the greatest thing ever, and would totally go great with craft beer.) read more

It takes a lot for me to write a bad review. But I could not let this one slide due to the behavior of every staff me member in this establishment. From the guy at the door to the servers at the bar and the girl serving (22.15 - dec14,2022) This is the worst place EVER..!!!! I've never seen a bar with this much bad customer service. We - 10 people - were told by management that they are "tired of customer service, that's how we handle customer service" ... wow! The situation: we entered the bar in 2 groups, total of 10 people. The first group found a seat at the bar, the second had to stand up. Instantly we were told by the girl server we had to sit down, I can understand that. But it wasn't an option due to lack of chairs. We pointed that out and were told we should have made a reservation for a group ((this is a bar) since when do you reserve 10 seats at a bar??) But what baffles me is my question if I could take a bar stool from another area and move to the area where my buddies were sitting. I was told by the same girl; NO! So I had to go sit by myself at the other room. Just plain ridiculous. I'm all about common sense and that's just nothing close to it ... This place has no sense of customer service or serving a good time for its customers. What a shame. This place will either change staff and management soon or go out of business maybe sooner ... not sure why these people feel so entitled. They just lost income of 10 people ordering multiple drinks and some snack ... guess they must be in business to go out of business ... read more

Dive bar with friendly service, open windows, and an impressive selection of craft beer. Ricky the bartender is great. I'd go back for his service alone. A bit noisy for conversation. This is the place for beer selection in Old San Juan. Note: I withhold five star ratings for places that I judge as the reason to travel travel there. Rock and Roll! One of the only bars that blasts rock. So if you want to escape from the same reggeton and Bad Bunny for a bit, this is your spot. They also have tons of beer selection and surprisingly good food for what you pay. Not sure about the drinks as I only had a beer, but it looks like a cool spot to chill, jam out and have a good time. read more

I adore this place! Definitely will be one of the first places I visit when I'm in PR again. Extensive beer collection with about 1/3 of them being local beers. I was not disappointed. Good mezcal selection. Staff is beyond friendly- they offered to give me a better seat once things settled, were generous with recommending other places to visit, and just overall friendly and accommodating. Food is alright. Decor and vibe is amazing. The backyard is very cute. Please visit if you're in Old San Juan! read more

We LOVED this place! I can't remember why we stopped in but in a few minutes we were in love! The atmosphere; on a corner of Old San Juan, the music was spot on, and THE FOOD! At first glance the menu looked short but the freshness and portions were off the charts ! Add a delicious IPA (#13) and my wife and I were in heaven!! We just kept smiling and shaking our heads at each other in disbelief how good and fresh the food and beer was! The hummus&pita was the best I've ever had; so fresh, delicious and the portions were huge! The gyros were, again, the best I've had!! Fish tacos.... ditto!!! We made an extra effort to get back to repeat before we left. This was a surprise that we didn't expect! read more

One of only a couple places where you can get great craft beer in PR. They have several taps and also feature some local craft drafts. Full list of cocktails and bottles as well. I've eaten here once and the food was decent, but place generally the place seems a bit dirty for food consumption so I'll stick with the beer. read more

Amazing beer selection! It was super cool to enjoy so many beers that are from local places. One unique thing is they don't have many gluten free food options which is understand is a lot to ask of a beer bar. They have canned sletzer options but their chips and salsa are amazing! Im only giving a 4 star because the dessert i had did have something I was allergic to despite reassurance which cause swollen lips and throwing up outside. Im not sure if the dessert was pre-made but having the allergens directly on the menu may help. Otherwise I completely recommend trying here.
