First let me start by saying that Patzcuaro is one of the nicest towns in Mexico...lots of nice people and culture. I recently visited Patzcuaro with a friend who has never been here, he loved everything about this town....well except for this restaurant called La Surtidora...
We went in for coffee and cake at around 7pm on a Thursday and the restaurant was busy but not overly busy. We were seated by the hostess and a few minutes later a very unfriendly waiter comes over to take out order, he was very cold and when we asked for recommendations he pretty much blew us off and asked what we were gonna order.
We were brought our order in a timely fashion but after that he basically abandoned our table...
Once we were done we had to basically get up and start walking out in order for us to get the check!!! Once he saw we were leaving he ran and gave us the check as we were in line at the cashier. Well now for the food, its mediocre...
I think the only reason this place gets clientele is due to its history and location. As we were leaving my friends saw a framed painting he liked, I asked the cashier for the price and she said " I dont know" and I asked her if it was for sale...she said yes but had no idea how much it was. Wow totally inexcusable, I really feel bad for whom ever the artist that exhibit their art here because With the staff being so unprofessional I highly doubt any art actually sells. My guest was equally disgusted, he came to Mexico to experience the beauty of our country but unfortunately its establishments like this that stain such a beautiful town like Patzcuaro. Do yourself a favor and find the smaller plaza a block away and have some homemade enchiladas...you will have better service, better food, and pay a lot less than going to la surtidora. read more
