They also have a delicious zucchini and shrimp pasta (garganelli con zucchini e gamberi) that is very tasty! It is hard to go wrong here with any of the menu choices. For dessert, try getting a tartufo bianco o nero affogato al caffè, this is a ball of either white or dark chocolate ice cream covered in an espresso coffee shot. Sounds strange, but it's the best! The place is pretty big but can get crowdy quickly, definitely call in advance and make a reservation especially if you want to get a seat outside. Good for large groups and famillies (high chairs available for small children). We have always found the service to be nice and attentive.

Unlike the not so stellar reviews, I am actually a big fan of 'Orto del Cigno". Sometimes the service is lacking ( the waiters can be brusque and not so attentive" but I think the food is great. If you are looking for the classic "napoli" this is not your place but the pizza is more "new york style". I recommend the scamorza and speck pizza. Their house wine is good and a decent price. The outside garden is very pretty and you MUST make reservations as it tends to always be crowded.

We arrived at the door shortly after 7:00 p.m., just as they opened. Asked if we had a reservation, we said "no," surveying the empty restaurant. The maître d' told us we could sit at a reserved table if we agreed to leave within two hours. Welcome to Italy and the spirit of the Slow Food movement. Within 30 to 45 minutes of our arrival, the restaurant was full, with a regular flow of people picking up pizzas to take home. Our meal -- two insalate and two pasta dishes with the house red wine -- was excellent: the lettuce crisp, the tomatoes perfectly ripe, the pasta al dente, the fresh bread crusty yet so soft on the inside, and the portions akin to American dishes. We avoided the temptation to have dessert, rather sampling the gelato from a local bar on the walk back to our apartment. If you're visiting Firenze and staying near the center of the city, Fratelli Briganti is worth the taxi ride. But make reservations, so you won't be disappointed.

We opted for the prix fixe meal, which for 40 Euros each was remarkably inexpensive and expansive. Starter was a tomato relish with fresh bread. Then a traditional plate of salumi and cheeses, bruschetta and fritelle. A bottle of DOC Chianti accompanied a 1kg sirloin medium rare with roasted potatoes. The meal ended with cantucchi dipped in vin santo. Service was excellent and unobtrusive. Keeping this meal from 5 stars was the quality of the steak, perhaps because a comparable one the night before at another restaurant was soo good!
