Being a vegetarian in Argentina used to mean having to miss out on one of Argentina's classics: asado. But that's a thing of the past, thanks to Reverde, the country's first vegan parrilla!
I went on a night where they were having a benefit for animals, so there were only 2 sandwiches on the menu: choripan and seitan.
My friend and I decided to get one each to be able to try them both. After a short wait, we picked them up from the counter. My friend, who's an avid meat-eater, was pleasantly shocked by the resemblance to real choripan (which I've never tried, so I can't judge.) The seitan had a great texture and the chimichurri they had available on the side went perfect with it. All in all, the best faux meat I've had yet in Argentina!
As for the locale, it's pretty small, as one should expect since the demand for vegan asado isn't very high...yet! The prices were actually very reasonable at the equivalent of about $4.50-5.50 USD. The staff was also friendly, upbeat and informative.
We inquired if their veggie meat is available for take-away purchase, and were told yes, but they need to be given a day's advance. Guess who's putting in an order for her next juntada? This girl!
Can't wait to go back and try something new! This place makes me super happy and I'm glad it exists. read more
