The weather was lovely and views awesome. The food service was quick. Two entree's bottle of local wine, and dessert for less than 50 euros. This was frankly one of the better meals (among many excellent ones) we had in the Milan area, and one of the least expensive. This is a must stop if you are exploring the upper city!

We came here around siesta time, so when we finished eating, we've realised that no one else is here, not counting us, an owner lady and some really old people reading newspapers. And we still felt welcomed! Interior is really comfy - dark wooden tables and chairs, big bar, where you can drink your espresso and leave, newspapers, old wine bottles, some photos on the walls and a lot of people. True Italian vibes. Menu is in Italian or English. They have variety of Italian goods here - pasta, pizza, main dishes, everything is really tasty and in good prices! We've decided to take a fixed menu for, as I recall, 14 euros, with pasta, main dish and a wine/coffee and water. I don't remember what we ordered exactly but I think I've had something similar to ravioli with ragu and bacon, ahhhhhhh, amazing!!! Main dish was simply big amount of meat with fries or mashed potatoes, nothing too crazy, but tasty as well. Wine - omnomnom. Food is damn good and the whole place is so cute. One of the old guys smiled at me and said "cin cin" when I was drinking my wine. The owner of this place, nice lady, was speaking only Italian, but we somehow managed to talk with her - Italian gestures, "molto bene" and "perfetto" were enough to communicate and leave big smiles on our faces. Grazie mille!

Osteria del Bugiardo was located in a good area so we made our way over to this wine bar. Service (2.5/5): Confusing system. There was a wait for a table but no hostess outside. We eventually talked to someone and she said that while there's no list, she will remember our faces and let us know when a table is ready. Not the most efficient system but we waited about 10 minutes to be seated at the bar. Our waiter took care of us pretty well after we got in. Ambiance (3.5/5): Your typical wine bar. Nice ambiance. The only downside for me is that seating at the bar consisted of bar stools. Without back support. Which I have always hated and which hurts my back. It's also pretty tight in there when they're at capacity. Drinks (4/5): Since this is a wine bar, you know what to order. We had glasses of rose. Not the heaviest pour but the price was solid. If you're not looking for wine, they also have things like Aperol Spritz. Food (4/5): You won't find hearty fare here but you will be able to munch on a lot of small plates. I'm talking things like mini sandwiches, croquettes, meatballs, salads, etc. Which is exactly what we did. We shared a couple of tapas between the two of us. It was filling and did the job. I wasn't stuffed but it was good and on the healthier side. Overall: Osteria del Bugiardo is one of the most popular restaurants on Yelp in Verona and it's located in the heart of the city.

We enjoyed a typical Italian meal (i.e. 2+ hours) during a long weekend in Brenzone sul Garda, one of many picturesque towns on the lake, just a few minutes up the road from Umberto's. We started with the Gran Frito Misto. Even though it was listed in the menu as a secondi, our waiter humored us and let us have it as an antipasti. The assortment of fried seafood and veggies was delish! I loved the calamari and shrimp. Even the sardines weren't bad! After that, we moved on to antipasti and secondi. My sister and I ordered the lasagne because it's a minimum 2 person dish. My hubby ordered the steak because... well... men like red meat? Y'all. I need to wax poetic about this lasagna for a minute. It was super creamy, bubbly and hot. Layers and layers of fresh noodles with a savory meat ragu sauce on top and prosciutto cotto and mushrooms sprinkled throughout. All served in a GIANT cauldron, easily enough for four people even though it was billed as a two person dish. The steak was good, too. And, we also enjoyed the sautéed potatoes. But seriously. Get. The. Lasagna. If you are still reading at this point (why aren't you on your way to Lake Garda for the lasagna?!), I suppose my last anecdote is that the house red wine was delicious.

The place is family owned and run according to the best Italian tradition for trattoria. Super friendly and smiling people all over giving you any advice about the super delicious traditional food you are going to order. Starter with prosciutto, culatello, salame and pancetta is a must. Deliciousness for your taste buds and wow, how good was that piece of Parmigiano Reggiano cheese..... wooooooo!!! My first main dish was Tortelli di Zucca (pumpkin kind of ravioli) served with a very local soffritto sauce. Woooooooooooooooo!!! The capelletti were also super good and really like my mother's.... Yesssss!!! I stopped here but the second dishes were all super ones. Ok, nothing dietary or vegetarian, but this is all about super traditional tastes and super comforting northern Italian food. Like being on a Christmas banquet :) Local Lambrusco red wine is the one to drink. Nothing else. Rustic but so fitting the taste. I could not refrain from tasting the dessert and I went for Zuppa Inglese, can.t translate, but if you never got it..... you definitely miss something delicious. Espresso of course and yes, grab the bottle of Nocino to sip this Amaro while you chit chat and end this spectacular dining experience. So, tradition with real care to great tastes enhanced from "you are guest at my home" type of welcoming atmosphere. Not expensive. Book in advance as the place is small and can get crowded. Ohh, I did not mention, all over the walls pictures and posters from the cult Italian movies I mentioned earlier. They are proud of them, and so it should be :)

We decided to go for a late dinner as we had enjoyed what we had seen at the tail end of the lunch service. What a great choice! We were seated at a table for two across from the pass through from the kitchen. Normally I would not be overly pleased with this seat location, but the sheer volume of activity made it the place to be. We watched as a large number of dishes at a time were assembled and whisked off to their awaiting guests. We ordered a bottle of red wine from our server, an older Gentleman that clearly was one of the people in charge of the floor. We determined a couple of appetizers and ordered from him our selections. He immediately made us aware that our selections were not what we should order, given our wine selection and the specialties of the house. He couldn't have been more right as our appy's of spinach and pumpkin stuffed ravioli's in a butter sauce and tortellini in brodo (chicken broth) was outstanding. The lovely K found the brodo on the salty side, but I found it to be terrific. We make our own chicken stock at home, painstakingly using old fashioned methods, no salt added and found that this broth had a depth of flavour that is difficult to replicate. The ravioli's were superb, the pasta beautiful and delicate and the filling amazing. Our secondi, we had breaded veal for myself and grilled rib eye for K. We got to chatting with a German couple and her Father as our second course arrived and did not finish either. That said both were well prepared and although the only things on the plate (we passed on the accompaniments off the cart as we were already getting full) they were again perfectly prepared. The atmosphere is what one would expect from a place that caters to families, especially on a the Sunday of a long weekend. The following day was a national holiday (Liberation Day) so spirits were high, and the volume loud. People wander from table to table visiting. We watched a Grandpa, Grandma and Mother walk around with a baby each taking turns while the others visited. It was a heartwarming and stomach satisfying experience in the middle of Italy that we will not soon forget. Dining in places like this is what Italy and family dining is all about. To illustrate this further the German couple and her Father we met by chance as they were at the table beside us we will be dining with in Rome later on this week, how does it get better than that.
