    Wide area covered pumps

(Filled-Up 04/18/14 F @ 11:30am): I got shelled in the desert! The Toaster was on its annual trek to the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival and needed something to drink, so I found this La Quinta Shell Station about a mile away from my "weekend home" hotel. I would normally hit the Costco to save some pennies-on-the-gallon but I wasn't paying attention. So here was my gas gouge in the desert: 87 Unleaded Gas ($47.00) - About a mile away from the Hilton Hotel-owned Homewood Suites, I eased my Toaster up to an open pump, and like a fat kid around cake, it took it down! But after 11.08 gallons of gas at $4.23/gallon, the damage was done. We are so screwed here in SoCal with these gas prices and it's not even summertime yet when it's historically at its highest peak! Normally, the price was $4.33/gallon, but thankfully I had some Ralphs Rewards gas points that saved me $0.10/gallon. Service - Unless there was something wrong with the pump you were at, the machine was out of receipt paper, or you needed to buy some snacks, smokes, condoms, gum, etc., it was all self-service. And, the pumps flowed pretty fast. Parking (free) - I didn't notice any specific parking spots, but there certainly was plenty of room on this property if you needed to pull aside and grabbed some snacks inside. Atmosphere, décor, ambience - This was a spacious gas station with wide aisles and lanes to pull up along or pass by cars. It had a total of twelve pump stations (two columns with six pumps each), with squeegees, soapy water, and paper towels at each column. They also had a water and air station. There was a sizeable convenient store, and they also had a car wash (which I didn't use) if your ride needed a cleaning after blazing through the desert. The pump stations were completely covered from the elements unless a hurricane or tornado headed towards you. There were two ways to enter/exit. Plenty of natural lighting during the day and fluorescent lighting at night. There weren't any TVs like most Shell stations, and there was no background music. The area itself was on the main strip of road, Highway 111. Overall, a very well-kept gas station. http://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw Attire - Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. Overall, this La Quinta Shell Station was nice, convenient, and they didn't hit you with the crappy practice of cash vs. credit prices. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (total bill was around $47.00; no tip required). I noticed nearby gas stations were pennies cheaper, but I didn't feel it really mattered at that point. And, they accepted my credit card of choice...AMEX!

Paid for ultimate and service was poor

I was told no appointments are needed, and they perform smogs until at least 4:00 pm. I arrived at 2:20 pm, and when I checked in, I realized I had left the renewal paperwork at home. I told Rudy I would write down the VIN number and license number legibly so he could fill out his paperwork. He then proceeded to inform me that it was not his job to read my writing. After I laughed, he said We stopped doing smogs at 2:00 pm today anyway. When you come back, make sure you don't screw up again and not bring the paperwork. He must have been the bully at his high school (assuming he went), because I have seen him give off that vibe multiple times to men. Needless to say, but I would rather light myself on fire than ever deal with him again. Plus, their coupon is a scam as well. If they write your name down before you show them the coupon, it is not valid. WTF!?!? I will give one of my associates the task of verifying whether this is even legal

Rudy answered my call and informed me that I didn't need an appointment since they start smog checks at 1 pm. However, when I arrived at 1 pm and inquired about the wait, he rudely told me that they actually start smog checks at 3 pm due to other priorities. I was disappointed because I had called ahead and made a special trip to the shop. I politely asked if there was another smog check station nearby, and he just said no. I don't recommend this place - it's a hassle you'd rather avoid."
